Welp, the day that I knew was going to arrive at some point has finally come: someone in my household is having all sorts of COVID symptoms.
I have a bit of a sore throat and had a runny nose at times yesterday (though now not anymore). Hope this will all pass soon.
Hope that they are vaxxed! I know you are so here's to also hoping you don't have too much trouble. Based on what we know, you shouldn't. If that person's symptoms are bad, they might want to contact their doctor about the antibodies therapy. In our area, anyone can get the monoclonal antibodies treatment with a positive covid test result if they aren't vaccinated. The guidelines around here for getting the antibodies get a little weirder harder to understand for those who are already vaccinated.
Thanks for the tips! They are indeed vaxxed, but also asthmatic so in a lesser condition than everybody else in the household. Will look into the monoclonal antibodies treatment.
Announcing a huge expansion of vaccine mandates today and it not even resulting in a bump for this thread tells you how beat down we all are
Man, I really wish this plan had gone farther. Should have included:
- Vaccine requirement for air travel. - Big push for production and distribution of at-home testing kits - free, if possible. - A massive overhaul of data tracking for infections, hospitalizations, and genomic sequencing. - Some sort of federal vaccine record program. It boggles my mind that none of these Silicon Valley assholes who want to disrupt anything have come up with a way to track and use this information, and/or that our government isn't incentivizing them to do it.
IDK, my entire family is *very* conservative. Like, retired politicians in the NC republican party and family friends of that NC representative that went to work with Trump conservative.
I dont think I have anyone in my very large, very republican family that arent vaccinated.

Do they think Trump won the 2020 election? I feel like that's the litmus test at this point lol

Lol, you're probably right.
No, they dont think he won. I'm pretty sure they think the media robbed him, but they dont think he won.

I did some math with the numbers here in Maryland. From Feb-Aug 1 there were about 124,000 recorded covid infections. Of those, 3,800 were fully vaccinated. Keep in mind MD has one of the highest vax rates, so those numbers aren't even apples to apples unvaxxed vs vaxxed populations. We're at about 80% now of those eligible full vaxxed.

San Diego County sends out a really cool weekly covid update pdf. In the document from last week they emphasized that case rates are 4x higher for unvaccinated vs vaccinated peeps, and hospitalizations are 48x higher for unvaccinated vs vaccinated

The vaccination divide is much more about educational attainment than political affiliation at this point. There are overlaps between political party and education at this point because of how the last ten years have gone, but last time I checked, it's well over 90% of college graduates

I will also tell you there are many college graduates who are anti-government and are buckled down into not getting the damn shot. they also have the privileges' to leave in the West away from people, work from home, etc. It's a gross time.
I got notified today that my #5 visit for the Moderna trial is canceled. They are going to reschedule when they can combine the visit with giving me a booster in a couple of weeks. So regardless of what the CDC or FDA says, they are going through with boosters. I go to Mexico in January so I'm willing to get it to feel safer.

My parents are away, but I would love to have a picture showing my parents smallpox/measles vaccine.
This nation is just a bunch of whiny bitches. Get your fucking shot.

For anyone interested in a kind of state-of-the-Union on the virus from one of the smartest (and least interested in self-hype) scientists I've seen out there during this whole mess, here's a great interview with Dr. Florian Krammer of Mt. Sinai, one of the world's leading virologists. It's super-informative.

My boss is ONCE AGAIN fixated on getting me back into the office. I have no performance issues, and have told him multiple times I prefer to stay off campus until my son is vaccinated. I'm the only one in the building with a kid too young for the vaccine. And of course my boss has an office on the top floor, while I'm in the only work space on the first floor which means everyone comes/goes all day and we get walk ins we have to deal with.
I asked my co-worker if there's any legitimate reason our building is open to the public/students (everyone that works in the building has key access) and she said for FedEx pickups. The stuff people had been dropping off at FedEx on their way home for the whole pandemic. So basically, we're dealing with the public coming into our workplace purely for unscheduled convenience.
If I didn't have a young kid at home I would be fine with taking the mitigated risk, but when I see zero reason for it... it's a very tough pill to swallow. I don't even know how to respond to him right now because I want to scream.
