It's crazy to feel that YOUR industry is a super spreader. And that you can't control any of the things happening except your well being on site. I'm actually going crazy. and I have to go do an install/breakdown to just make ends meet for NYE/post NYE.
it feels like such a huge fuck you from the world. We don't matter enough to be highly unionized to most people, so we are taking on high risk to survive. Not even going to add nuance to it.
I've had a dull headache off and on during most of the day. Scratchy throat. Sinuses still feel weird. I check my temp every few hours - it's been no higher than 99.2 since when I first woke up.
It's been 48 hours since I left my brother's house. I'm hoping tomorrow I hold up ok.
I gave myself symptoms last summer and with my negative test they slowly dissipated throughout the day. Fingers crossed this is what it is. Two days seems super fast. I thought it was closer to 4-5.
i've heard omicron can come on 36-48 hrs after exposure. definitely quicker than OG and delta!
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

Ugh. I hate this timeline. And LD I hope you are doing ok.

For what it's worth, a much shorter incubation period might actually be a good thing, pandemic-wise. It'd mean less time with people walking around shedding virus without knowing they're infected, which is part of what's made this thing such a bitch to contain.
I dunno. Omicron is so contagious it might all balance out, but I'm trying to take any silver lining I can at this point.
I found this article very interesting, essentially talks about how herd immunity may actually be what ends this given how contagious yet mild omicron is

This has been my optimistic hope the last few weeks, but I've also seen so many "There's light at the end of the pandemic tunnel" articles in the last two years that it feels cruel to assume the best. I also feel like omicron is still so new that we don't know everything yet about its mortality rate and incubation period. I will say that if I have to get this virus at some point, now would be as convenient of a time as any with no immediate plans and a renewed work-from-home order, and I've been boosted for 2 months now.
In some darkly humorous news, this has also been the week karma has finally caught up to everyone I know who has done everything wrong during the pandemic and somehow avoided getting sick, including my nursing school antivax friend (yes, nursing school) and a couple people who've been on planes every week and posted photos of their discounted world travels while still telling everyone "Stay safe". All tested positive for Christmas.
In the house. Got word someone from Xmas eve who tested negative before a party tested positive. The oldest who doesn’t live with me had 103 last night and also tested positive. He’s the only one not boosted yet because of work times and schedules. I was pretty sure after Christmas Eve and Christmas night someone was going to have been incubating. I was willing to take the risk since my booster and was prepared for consequences considering the three shots I had. I’m not worried about it but it sucks for him that none of the 5 of us got it for about two years. He’ll be fine in a couple days, but he’s going to be opening Christmas presents via zoom today. Y’all who aren’t boosted yet be careful out there!
I know this is not exactly the vibe of this thread right now, but if it does make anyone feel better right now: in spite of very few of the residents of the nursing homes I'm at right now taking any precautions, we've had virtually no COVID infections among our residents and almost no COVID infections among staff (I say almost because over the past 3 months, that number has been less than 10 out of hundreds) and I and my therapy coworkers have tested negative with PCR tests consistently for the past couple weeks. I understand things are...more than a little uncertain for a lot of you right now, but also I feel that it's important to note that where some of our most vulnerable populations live, things are going way better than you might expect them to.
Yeah the new guidelines are a little wild to me. So I'm vaxxed and boosted, was exposed, tested negative 5 days straight afterwards and I don't have to quarantine at all.
Edit: my original post is actually stricter than the actual recommendation:
Individuals who have received their booster shot do not need to quarantine following an exposure, but should wear a mask for 10 days after the exposure.
i feel like in order for events to continue they should be vax+booster required. obviously it would be best for them to be paused again despite that sucking but also these touring artists need a source of income if the fed gov isnt going to do anything

in all honesty they should be vax + boost + test prior.

hopefully the supply and pricing issue of testing is solved in 2022 but then again this is a country that would rather invest trillions in defense instead of its citizens and infrastructure
My dad is now positive, and the lady's sister is presumed to have it.
fuck. hope everyone is well and has a speedy recovery! how are you feeling?
It feels like I have a bit of a head cold. I've been worse. The lady is a little worse than me.
I'm bored because I've barely left the house since Saturday. I'm not cleared to go to work. I had to back out of hosting trivia tonight. I just sit around either online or watching Family Guy.
The lady is very very pissed at my brother and his wife, and I don't blame her. They put a bunch of people at risk because they just did whatever they wanted. They had been around someone who tested positive and met up with a bunch of people anyway.
