Since we're talking about both homelessness and golf, I think this clip is timely.
He starts off talking on homelessness, goes off on a tangent, and then ties golf into it at around 5:55. But really you should listen to the whole thing. And by the whole thing I mean the entirety of George Carlin's recorded material.

Mental health is going to become a massive problem here, giving people something that resembles their life if it is likely safe that will help confront the mental (and physical) health side, I think thats important to keep as an option.
Going to work is pretty much the only worthwhile thing I'm doing right now. Sunday when I was home all day and it was raining, I was bored as hell. Dunno how everyone's staying sane being at home for weeks on end now. I'd probably be applying at Target or the grocery store if I got laid off, just to get out and be around other people.
I went for a walk around the neighborhood on Saturday, and it was a bummer since I couldn't double it as a Bernie canvass.
I disagree with the statements against outdoor activity. It's the only thing keeping people sane around here.
Yes, there are still some people congregating in groups and they should be broken up, but mostly it's 1-4 people going on walks, jogs, or bike rides. Others are kayaking, or parking near the water and tailgating with 1-4 people. The city has done a decent job of policing crowds and set up a phone number to report groups who violate the rules.
As far as sports go, none of them are perfectly safe. Y'all are forgetting that tennis involves picking up the same balls repeatedly. However, if you're playing with your quarantine partner(s), then its fine. Some golf courses are putting stoppers in their holes so that the ball inly goes in about an inch or two, so that you can avoid spreading the virus when reaching into the cup. But people might still pull out the flag or not wipe down their carts. But at least it's not a contact sport I guess.
I feel like people are out enjoying the great weather we are having and trying to stay happy. I've seen numerous joggers and bikers with masks on. It might be easier to think that we all can stay indoors forever if we all lived somewhere cold or weren't the types of people to go outside or exercise. But it's torture to stay inside when you're an active person and you have beautiful (spacious) green spaces and perfect weather
Wait, how is golf and tennis essential in your mind?
I agree they aren't essential but it should be easy to practice social distancing on tennis courts and golf courses. And they'll provide an outlet for exercise.
Although you could make an argument that many individuals won't practice social distancing so they should be closed.
La county closed golf course a couple days after the at home order was put in place. What youre not anticipating is that if you give people that avenue to be outside, theyll take it to another level. So theres going to be golf course filled to the brim now. And considering that arizona has a lot of senior citizens, hows that helping the at risk demographic. Farmers Markets in LA were packed this past weekend because they were one of the last outdoor things to go do after all the beaches, parks and hiking trails got closed. Now they closed those until they can present a plan to keep capacity and distancing controlled.
. People are so flip flop on that when it comes to staying home. Cause when things were “normal” it was like a dream to be able to stay home and do nothing. People worshipped all those youtubers who just were at home all day and played video games. We all wanted to be inside in our own little worlds, now you got the chance and its driving everyone crazy. So what gives, you got what ya wanted, now go make tik tok videos all day. The moment something is taken from you, which you likely took for granted this whole time, is when you finally are grateful it even existed. As much as we anticipate people being more appreciative when things are better, it wont last long. Itll revert back to what it was before, a very selfish society. Then again, all the toilet paper hoarding has proven that even further.

My HOA left a letter on everyone's car this morning that all cars need to be removed from our court tomorrow to chop down a fucking tree. There's probably 30-40 cars in our court, and literally no additional parking in our neighborhood. FFS.

I kind of have the opposite problem. After two weeks of quarantine, and with the fact that NYC is in the shit, I've developed a middling case of agoraphobia. We have to go to a doctor's office to get our tests done today, and I'm kind of freaking out about it.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?
UPCOMING SHOWS 5/14 - Neil Young & Crazy Horse @ Forest Hills 6/8 and maybe 6/9 - Governors Ball 8/17 - King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard @ Forest Hills 9/4 - Pearl Jam @ MSG 9/7 - Pearl Jam @ Wells Fargo Center 9/11 - St. Vincent @ Brooklyn Paramount

As a city dweller, both are going to happen. We already don't actively talk to people as a culture, and now we realize how much we needed the at least passive interactions. But we are scared for legitimate reasons, from someone dealing with mental health issues, waiting for his therapist to call in.
But all I want is to walk around and do photography, but that's really irresponsible.
This city is doing as good of a job as it could considering we are on a tip for testing, but a plateau for deaths.
Saying that -- I live in constant fear because my father, brother, mother, aunt, and nieces are all "essential workers" (each to their own extents)
I firmly believe no one should be interacting with each other outside for reasons of liesure. If someone gets sick who’s been out playing tennis, they can only blame themselves. There’s plenty of ways to be outside and be alone. All parks and recreation areas should be closed.down
we've had issues with crowding at hiking trails and in the parks around the city. my town shut down all the city playgrounds and facilities (restrooms, tennis and basketball courts, etc) but my neighbordhood playground is still open, and has been more full of people than I have ever seen it. Unless there are limits on number of people in a group golfing, limits using carts or fully sanitizing them, and good staggering of groups on there course there will still be a lot of human interaction. Plus the maintenance of courses takes a lot of manpower, so that is a lot of workers who are going to have to show up to work and interact with each other/guests. I have been out disc golfing, but that is very self regulated, courses aren't maintained like regular golf, and it is way less popular than regular golf.
The biggest thing about the AZ governors order is the he prohibits cities and towns from closing down businesses he put on the "essential" list - so my town couldn't shut down the golf courses, salons, etc. even if they wanted to.
Seriously this state sucks soo much especially now. No reason to be outside imo. Just stay home.

Tennis is probably pretty safe, although it depends on who you're playing with I suppose. You're both grabbing the same few balls over and over and (probably) sweating, so I can see the risks also.
George Carlin is both (a) pretty good and (b) kinda overrated. The "modern man" bit from the 2000s is hilariously bad

It is. It sounds good/clever but actually doesn't make any sense. Impressive he was able to remember all that at his age but it's so funny when you really listen to what he's saying. They did that on Hollywood Handbook and it killed me with them pretending it was a bit from Joe Mande's stand-up and wanted him to explain it.
Also, Carlin's got WAY more good than bad stuff. I wouldn't call him overrated that much. Though he does get a few of his clips used a ton in online discourse about politics/class stuff.

I agree that his last couple of specials weren't near his best, but he rarely missed from like 88-2001. I'm a bit biased and will spare you the tangent about the place GC holds in my heart, but I really don't think many comedians even come close to the level of hilarity, insight, and cultural influence as Carlin.

Oh no I definitely agree! Jammin' in New York is wall-to-wall great, I'd definitely call myself a fan in general, should've been clearer there
Looks like testing results in Louisiana are starting to come back in full force.. broke the dreaded 1000 new cases in a day milestone. NY, sadly, is at around 8500 today
I thought the midwest was usually behind the rest of the country but my city has been on lockdown since March 17th (they did it so bars wouldn't be open on St. Pats). It's crazy there are cities still not on lockdown.
Pretty sure that's why Denver shut down when it did
Also, Colorado has either done an exceptional job of quarentine, or we're not testing as much as other places. When this started I thought we were fucked, and in the top 5 of cases, but we've barely budged the last few weeks

I’m kind of liking being on my own time and being able to do whatever I want to do when I get a break. In fact I’m finding it to be the good life. Work gets done and so does my shit - laundry, dishes, cooking and whatever. I can be an unshaven slob and don’t have to pay fn dry cleaner bill. I could get used to more remote time.

I think it's safe to assume that places where case numbers aren't increasing just aren't doing that much testing. For all the talk of how much better it's gotten in the past week, we're still nowhere near where we need to be.

definitely not testing enough but it also helped that many of the first Colorado cases were in small ski resort mountain towns which closed down very early along with our governor and the Denver mayor moving quickly compared to other places.
Denver is also not that dense compared to other large cities.
Just got news that my brother-in-law is in a military hospital with pneumonia and they’re pretty sure he’s got the virus. He’s been training on a base in Virginia for like two months now.
Also I saw where Toronto banned shit through June 30th, though I don’t know what all that entails.
City permits are yanked for stuff like Pride Parade. Pro sports(Jays/Raptors/Leafs) appear to be unaffected if they somehow come back to finish their season.
Weeknd/Tame Impala/Slipknot/Vampire Weekend all have Toronto shows in bigger venues before June 30th. Plus one has to wonder if George Clinton or Rodriguez have done their lasts shows already.

Perhaps it's common knowledge or whatever at this point, but someone I know in the medical field that talked to the person in charge of the coronavirus ward(or whatever you call it) of a particular hospital. They are currently testing control groups of the anti malaria drugs that have been touted recently. Pray it goes well and gives us something to combat this bitch.
