did not expect DMS's top 5 to be Madonna - AC/DC - Post Malone - Odd Future - Calvin Harris
I was trying to pick legit headliners who had never actually headlined. Couldn’t quite pull it off so I had to snag AC/DC to pad it out, but that’s why OF and Madonna were my top two choices. Was shooting for OF-Madonna-Bauhaus/MBV

ACDC was only other thing I was gonna shoot for if I couldn't get Coldplay. Not that I'm anti "other big arena rock acts", I just felt like the rarity was the plus.

FredBing could we discuss seeding for voting again? If we're doing the poll first, we might as well use that to seed instead of it being random. I think it'd be pretty unfair for someone like Pepe to go out rd1 because he went up against cdev or something. The best one will win no matter what but I think it'd be a lot more engaging if a mid-tier lineup didn't cruise through to the finals with an easy schedule.

I am not sure if it's understood what the preliminary round is. It is not gonna be all 20 of us pooled in one group and the last 4 eliminated from it. There will be 4 preliminary groups with 5 people in each, so there will be 4 polls going on at the same time. Then, 16 players (4 from each group) who advance will be randomized for seeds.

but at that point wouldn't it make sense to, instead of just eliminate one person from each of the brackets, let the top performing person from each bracket receive a bye? instead of keeping 4 people out of the fun of the head to heads

No, because there is no guarantee of each group is gonna get the same amount of voters.

What if 5 people get 11 votes, 3 people get 10 votes etc.

Just keep the seeding within the group and have brackets from each group
With four different polls we still run the risk of one group having say five strong lineups and one group having five weaker lineups (and exaggeration but demonstrating a point). This would result in eliminating a stronger lineup and letting a weaker one into the tourney.
Idea: we do one poll with 20 lineups, the top four get a bye and we seed the rest roughly according to the number of votes. This way everyone gets to be in the tourney and the strength of lineups is preserved via byes/seeding. We get the best of both approaches, without having four different poll threads.

this really makes the most sense, i'm not sure what the purpose of 4 different polls is?

worst comes to worst, then you can randomize it. Randomization seems like a last resort.

I don't think there is any weak lineup in the tournament to be honest.
We think that with 20 people, this is the fairest way for everyone. If a lineup is strong enough, it will beat any other opponents (seeding randomly or not)
