Janelle Monae is easily one of the most talented and dynamic artists and performers of her generation who's never put out a bad album. It might be true she's not as good as Prince, but like... who is?

I can't say I often go out of my way to listen to Bruno Mars, but, even at their most unoriginal, his big hits are fun and leagues ahead of a lot of similar pop music

It's almost as if Janelle and Bruno were both HEAVILY influenced by Prince. Are they as good as or better than Prince? No. But it doesn't mean they're bad artists or that Janelle was a bad pick. She was on my shortlist.

I like Janelle Monae a lot but she was picked two picks after Madonna, so I think both sides of this argument are being reasonable here

Yeah but Madonna's reputation for her live music isn't as strong as it once was. Monae is still rising.

It was a reach then, too. But also while that pool was much larger, there were less shiny acts that don't play anymore.

I don't get the heat Silver Surfer is getting tbh. She's a great sub for Frank or just in general (assuming you're not gonna let her headline, right?).
