Also I'm for including the 2020 lineup. There's 20 of us and I think we could use whatever extra options we can get. If they give us an updated Coachella lineup mid draft you can't use any of the new artists that might become available.

my takes, as I sit in my shed smoking a bowl while listening to Alive 07’.
1. Acts should definitely be allowed as many times as they’ve played. Pool is too small not to.
2. 2020 should be allowed, Pool is too small not to.
3. A list isn’t a terrible idea, but the cons definitely outweigh the pros. We all have access to the posters. And I’d much rather have to stare at those pieces of art than have to scroll through a 5000 name excel spreadsheet.
Edit*
If we decide to make artists available multiple times, the best way to keep track of it (if we decide not to do a giant list), would to establish how many more times an act is available, immediately after the first time they’re picked. I think that’s somewhat of a compromise.
The Bing pick was dope for sure. But it could never happen in this game because eligibility is concretely defined and instead of a (functionally) infinite number of possible acts, there's only a couple thousand tops.
"keeping banger picks and doing research" in this draft would just be reading over the exact same 20 lineups as everyone else. Very little room for innovation there, so I'm fine with having that task done just once instead of everyone involved replicating the labor
This is what I'm leaning towards to be honest. We're basically making things slightly easier for everyone.
Especially given the short notice and that we will start this in a week or so, I think it would be fair if I did the homework for everyone.
why don't we just start asap? what else do we have to do?
I'm gonna have to make the list regardless, to make sure if a pick is eligible or not.
Not sure where you ended up landing either way, but if you do end up deciding not to make the eligibility list public, as much heads up as possible would be appreciated!

I have to finish making the list and see what the numbers actually look like, but I feel like there will be enough acts.
30 rounds x 20 players, that's 600 acts, I think more than 1000 people played Coachella (again I need to make the list), so there will be plenty of people left for UDFAs.

In a fantasy football draft you are literally given a list with Power rankings to draft from. No one has ever argued that it makes it too easy or benefits lazy people
I need more opinions about how to reach to 16 players from a pool of 20.
An alternative I suggested in the other thread is to divide 20 players into groups of 5, and run a poll (for each group) to determine top 4 that will advance to the tournament phase. Then proceed from there.

I just think it would be the super interesting to make the most acts available as possible. make this the no excuses draft, we’re all capable of making the best possible Coachella, but it’s more widely about our individual skill than the luck of the draw in the draft order. Out of 20 lineups, fuck yeah I’d like to see 4 with radiohead. You don’t just get radiohead, there’s an added pressure to make the best possible top line to compliment radiohead.

This is why I've been suggesting the all free agency thing
Sure everyone can do Radiohead - Rage - Waters - Beyonce, but how unique can you make it?

Randomized qualifying groups that advance a certain number to elimination play seems logical... kinda like what the World Cup does I think (don't follow soccer so feel free to correct me if that's wrong).
And just to see how it would feel, I've typed out all of 1999 and 2001 into an Excel doc. Can't honestly say I gained any competitive advantage or am in a position to make more clever left-field picks than if I'd just looked at the poster for thirty seconds, but your mileage may vary

These two things aren't really comparable. The difference is in Fantasy Football you play a season and its depending on how the players do in the future season irl. There is no future irl for us in a fantasy festival draft.

It's comparable on the grounds that the pool is limited and everyone has the same opportunity to know who to pick. People will still reach, people will still find a "diamond"
Literally nothing will change with an all-purpose list

yeah I’m definitely with you there. I just love the game of drafting so much that it’s a bummer that you lose out on that aspect of it, but I’m definitely down to do this at some point. would be super quick and easy.

it would literally just be the voting
And creating a poster/schedule
It's more of an exercise to see whats valued on a much smaller scale than a full fledged draft
