The two weekends we have in mind are March 18 – 21 and March 25 – 28; however, it will still be several weeks — perhaps until late-August or early-September — before we know for certain if those weekends are actually feasible. The health and safety of everyone who attends Big Ears — and of our community — is our #1 concern. If these dates don’t allow for that, we’ll pivot to weekends later in the year.

The more I'm sitting with this, the more it seems like a really ill-timed idea. This festival has always been on the expensive side, IMO (even without VIP). Sure, there are single day tickets, but a lot of the cost for us out-of-towners is the transportation and lodging. I don't think I'd make the trip for a single day ticket. Of course, I *absolutely* think it's worth every penny they charge (the value is non-debatable)... but with the financial impact most have felt from COVID, you'd think they would head the opposite direction for a year or two. Bring it back to a 3 day festival to make it more cost effective.
I'm not a professional promoter; they have a ton of experience in this business, so I trust they know what they're doing. But from my well-worn armchair, this seems like an amazing idea for another time.

If they were to do same line-up both weekends, I could see why. That said, we know that's not happening.
I was hoping for some space between. Like maybe a spring version and a fall one. It wouldn't be ideal but I could make both of those happen. Sadly, Knoxville isn't the easiest of places to travel to. Nor is cheap. They could do BOGO tickets for each weekend and that's still outta my price range.

So they'll definitely be selling tickets separately for the two weekends, yeah?

They would have to. I suspect there will be a "deal" for both together but they'll offer single weekend passes.
E: I'm wondering if we will get full line-ups for both before tickets go on-sale. That's rioting if they add someone to one weekend and not the other sort of thing.

They’ll probably have a teaser lineups for both weekend before the presale. I don’t see anyone getting tickets blindly in these times.

This was in the comments on FB: -Person: "Sounds exciting but we'll need to know who is playing which weekend before the tickets go on sale" -Big Ears: "Of course."

Big Ears current response
Thanks for the response and feedback.
Here’s the thing. Many - actually most - of the artists can only do one weekend or the other. So, it’s not a choice between presenting everyone on a single weekend or on two. We realize that for many this would necessitate a choice - and we understand how difficult that might be. But we’re also determining ways in which the festival might do more in offering opportunities to artists and for audiences. A number of great festivals in the world span multiple weekends, often dictating difficult decisions for those who attend. But what a luxury to be able to choose, no?
I mean if Suf is headlining one of the weekends, that's the one I'll be at. But if not, I'll see how the two weekends shake out & see which I prefer top-to-bottom.
