No matter how realistic putting cheese in, at the end of the day, most people won't vote for lineups with cheese.
I thought the jist was to put up a realistic Roo that would cater 80k people. Ignoring The Other as a getaway for EDM-heads is the same thing as excluding cheese out of Coachella's Sahara tent. You're booking a line up for 2020/21, not for 2014. The old 'Other' tent is dead.
Not just reacting to you in particular btw, but I'm sensing a few people seem to think that they can just ignore the fact that dj's and edm culture is as much a part of Roo nowadays than some other things. There's a reason why they brought the Kalliope back.
the finalists of the coachella draft had mostly non cheese in their saharas.

you can build a lineup that feels very bonnaroo 2014 and still have an Other that is more realistic for 2021. i dont feel super strongly either way about this, but its probably best we're all playing on even ground and devote the Other to electronic / somewhat cheesey hip hop. you can still do something interesting and better than current Roo with that, it doesn't mean you have to book Marshmello.
and as for set schedule cutoffs im kinda for it, but i do like the idea of being able to schedule some sunrise sets, so i feel like we could just call the late night cut off 5am as a compromise or something.
- We have to book a "realistic" lineup for Bonnaroo 2021 - "Realistic" means adhering to the template of Bonnaroo in its most recent iterations - As of 2019/2020, the Other was reserved solely for the absolute worst, cheesiest, and most terrible music possible - Therefore, we can't select actually good acts to play the Other because that's not what would happen
Is this accurate? We're basically conceding that present-day Bonnaroo lineups are at least 70% garbage and so we need to book garbage acts?
You’re gonna have to take acts you don’t like to make it realistic but if you want 80 Aphex Twin sets go ahead. The voting will be based on realism, some creativity and just how good the good parts of your lineup are. We’ve done a ton of “make the best you can” stuff I figured some structure on what we’re all competing for would be a change.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
And would anyone have fun booking or look forward to voting for lineups full of drivel in the Other?
We’ve been basically booking lineups to our personal tastes since drafts started here however many years ago. So a different challenge of booking something that’s not to our taste that could still win does sound fun to me tbh

I really don’t understand how this is so hard for people to get

No? I mean.. The Sahara also has rap, (k)pop and more niche electronics in it, saying it only has to include cheese is a bit weird no? Going back to The Other, there's def some live electronic and rappers that have played the stage but not in the range of diversity Sahara has.

Just gonna load the Other up with crap like Tipper and other wookbass and win this thing running away then.

i get the frustrations of those who are wanting to join that may feel like we're being restrictive and "less fun", but as stated above we've been doing whatever we want and judging these things as subjectively as possible for for years. those of us who have been playing for a while just want a change in pace and more defined objective for once, as we got a taste of it in the coachella draft and it proved to be fresh and interesting.
I get the vision for the game. But will people really be voting based on how realistic it is for Bonnaroo, or really how much they like the lineup?
that's why we've been saying just view it as a 70k cutoff that you just have to reach. you can do so without booking the Post Malones and the Marshmellos, but you just actively have to weigh that factor while you're drafting so you dont just have Radiohead - Aphex Twin - Sigur Ros as your headliners. and yes in the coachella draft, both realism and taste factored into peoples voting.

I think this could be covered by saying "you have to try to sell out the festival"

Case in point: in the Coachella draft I didn’t bother getting The Killers or some shit as a free agent to be my third headliner instead of Sigur Ros and it did not work out even though I had one of the better lineups

Just to give an other example other than electronic music and something that was heavily debated during voting was how realistic the headliners were of some people's festivals. Some considered act A or B not much of headliner compared to others (fe pablo's headliners or if Odd Future reunion was a justified headlining spot), there were a few with very stacked top lines and others opted - because of the small amount of headliners - for a co-headlining structure. At the end of the day Jortles (Beastie Boys, Gorillaz and Lizzo) and Cdev (Rage, The Cure, Tame Impala) were our finalists.

Guys I honestly think this is as simple as making a lineup that would sell at least 70,000 tickets, includes all of the genres at Bonnaroo (rock, hip hop, edm, bluegrass, jam etc.), and uses all of the stages at Bonnaroo. The Other Stage is up for debate but you can make it so that stage doesn't completely suck. Anything else is just overthinking this.
