I am sure that like 95% of you already have your minds made up, and that's fine! But for the maybe 5% who don't, or for those of you who are open to change, I'd just like to discuss why I prefer our lineup to JazFred.
First, I actually really like their lineup! I particularly like their undercard, and when I go to make a schedule in their clashfinder, there are plenty of spots where I have an actual conflict, which the actual sign of a great festival. That said, here's why I think we're better.
- Repeat headliners. We each have a repeat from 2019: Phish vs. Gambino. But what makes more sense to repeat two years later, the jamband that never plays the same show twice and has tens of thousands of fans who would see them literally every night of the year every year of their life, or Childish Gambino?
- Headliners in general. I like Lady Gaga just fine, but she's already played all the other major fests. Taylor Swift just made a very-well received pivot to a different sound, obviously has the Tennessee/Nashville ties, and seems poised to start hitting the festival circuit after headlining Glasto. And I know lots of people are like "Iron Maiden okay lol" but I've said it before and I'll say it again, nobody has a bad time at a Maiden show. It's exactly the kind of goofy awesomeness that Bonnaroo would embrace. I know they've been one of Paul Tollett's white whales for years now, but I actually think they work better at Bonnaroo. And as for Arcade Fire, how relevant are they in 2021? They're more than a decade removed from their last good album, and the last two were so poorly received that they were giving tickets away for free.
- the Other Stage. I get the criticism of our electronic, in that there's no wook bass and it's actually good. But all of the acts we booked play US shows and festivals with some regularity, it's just a pivot toward an improved aesthetic. My take on JazFred's EDM is that there are a few good acts, but the bad ones don't even seem like really current bad ones. It's like 2016 Sahara bands. Also, if we're getting into Other realism, we need to talk about SURVIVE being on the Other, because that's just nuts. (Note: I don't really care about realism that much)
In conclusion, this matchup is a land of contrats. Thank you.
THIRD ROUND MATCHUPS You must vote for all matchups.
sang / deto - Quality 9 Realism 9 fearandparanoia / emoney / problem dog - Quality 9 Realism 9
Sang, I know this isn't what you had in mind when you invited me back to vote on this tournament, but I have to go with my gut here. Sangdeto wins on the metal front with Metallica and Mastodon, but that gap isn't large enough to throw my vote when Priest, and Windhand are on the other side. It's the jam (moe. - I am a boomer, after all, Billy Strings, Goose), and jazz (Comet is Coming, GoGo Penguin) that put the Bulls over the edge for me. This is a brutal matchup for me though. Well done boys.
Delicious Meatball Sub / Larry Farnsworth - Quality 9 Realism 9 Jaz / Fred - Quality 7 Realism 7
Iron Maiden is the greatest band of all time, what do you want me to say?

Has she not played all of the other Big 4 fests? Pretty sure she has.
