If Phoebe comes back and bon iver shows up I’ll be one happy boy
those plus Brockhampton, Earl, and one of Disclosure or Flume would be enough for me to be happy. Sudan Archives is an awesome undercard booking too, very excited for her
Give me 2-3 across the already mentioned and Rufus, Glass Animals, Leon Bridges, and maybe event T-Pain, and ill be stoked. Wouldn't be super mad with Nathaniel Rateliff as a blue stage closer to fill that Americana void either, even though I know he's a repeat
Well, Beach Road 2019 was mainly jam and classic rock. I can't see Boston Calling booking Phil Lesh or John Fogerty. While most multi-genre festivals will throw one classic rock act into the mix each year, Boston Calling has only booked a few acts in its history who were recording and touring before the 90's.
Similarly, last year's Beach Road went heavy on jam, with moe. and Tedeschi Trucks.
It's Beach Road expanding their musical borders that makes it more likely that they will end up sharing an act or two with Boston Calling this year or in the future.
have you not noticed Boston Calling also switching up directions? We've been steadily heading towards becoming more of a Gov Ball type festival, losing some of the more unique elements. We might get 1 token americana/folk type act and that's about it
exactly, seems like you may be better off saving up for beach road or NFF at this point Mr tw12. i just dont think theyre going to throw as many bones to that crowd as they did in years past. Not tryna burst your bubble, just sayin this fest is switching up a bit

Ehh, nothing about the 2020 line up makes me think that. In fact looking at 2019 > 2020 makes me think they want to keep the rock focus instead of leaning into the more popular Hip hop and EDM acts.

That's definitely possible, too. They did little to no Americana in 2016, when they doubled down upon dance pop and EDM. Still, as an "in city" fest which wants to attract as many local ticket buyers as possible, you want just enough Americana, rap, and EDM on the poster to motivate people who live in the area to at least buy a one-day pass, if they're into a particular genre and figure that there's enough they like on the poster to justify a purchase.

It would be easier and cheaper for me to get to NYC or Chicago then Nantucket (or is it Martha's Vineyard) or Newport.
I'm just hoping for some favorites at the waterfront pavilion and enough improvement in the pandemic to make indoor venues sufficiently safe for older audience members. I've got four indoor venue shows in my calendar for March, and I'm hoping that the predictions of a quick crash to the Omicron spike hold true.

or it makes sense to focus on the most popular genres with the desired demographic of festival goers and emphasize that
even if they want "Americana", there are more currrently popular acts than Dawes which would fill the slot. like the Brook & the Bluff are popping up on every lineup this spring, they'd be a more likely fit

Sure, I'm not saying it's going to be Dawes, only that they've always booked a few acts with an appeal in that direction. No Americana fan is going to travel any great distance for what Boston Calling offers, but it makes sense to book just enough to attract that audience (Plus, there's a lot of Venn diagram overlap between a love for indie rock and Americana, which is precisely where artists like Wilco, My Morning Jacket, Dawes, Ryan Adams, Fleet Foxes, etc. reside. I'm as excited at the prospect of seeing The Strokes at Boston Calling as I am by any potential Beach Road crossover.)

Can we manifest a nice My Morning Jacket set into Foo?
Hello! New here, but been lurking the past few days. I’m only 21, but have been to Boston Calling since 2017. This is the one festival I look forward to every year since it’s the most accessible to someone my age with no license lmao. I appreciate all the insight, (seeing as reddit has been awful lately). Hope to be more involved in here as we get closer!

I'd hardly travel a thousand miles to see only one of my favorites, especially when My Morning Jacket is overdue for their first Boston show since 2015 and will likely wind up at the Leader Bank Pavilion (or whatever they're calling it now) this summer. It's not that I'm into *any* Americana act. Like anybody else, I like certain artists and, for me, a lot of them fall into the Americana bucket, particularly the "Americana musicians who listen to Radiohead and avant-garde music" wing of the building.
This just doesn't seem like a good year for anyone over 50 to get on an airplane, stay in a hotel, or dine in restaurants. We need to get way past the worst of this for me to travel.

I don't know them, but just checked out a few seconds of a song of theirs on YouTube, which made me definitely want to check out more soon. Thanks for the heads-up, I literally never heard of them before.
Wish list would be to see Metallica in this since they are booked Friday at Bottlerock. They don't play back to back anymore so closing Sunday would work. The NE is an area they didn't really do at all last year.
if Rage is really out and the BC organizers want to annoy as few people as possible, they hopefully have Metallica replacing them and closing out Sunday night

Spoon, Yola, and Kikagaku Moyo are pretty much all I’d want from Bottlerock.
Kikagaku sadly seems unlikely because they’re in VT earlier in May, seems unlikely they’d go back and forth across the country in the same month with no other tour dates
Yola would be great and I feel like BC normally gets Americana names the year after they play Newport so that’d track

Coach got Harry Styles to replace Rage. Do we really think rage is still in this...? like why would they do March dates- if the tour was moving forward- but drop off of the, ya know, one of the big reasons the reunion was gonna happen in the first place??

Whether he puts on an amazing show or not that is a hilarious booking considering they are replacing Rage Against The Machine

There's no way to really know what's going on. Seems least likely that everything is still on as planned except Coachella. So to me either (A) the whole tour is cancelled and we lose them at BC, or (B) that drummer surgery recovery thing is legit and they just won't be ready in April which could mean most of the tour and BC are still on or could mean they won't start until June/July/etc. There's really no way to know at this point. All that being said, if i had to bet on it then i think they're going to cancel their whole tour and fade back into the ether.
