I'm starting a clashfinder, and I'm only now noticing that there's 17 acts on every day, too much to pack into 3 stages. I'm guessing the fourth stage will be mainly the smaller local artists from the lineup
A small "showcase" stage near the Blue would be a nice addition
he/they '12 - Firefly '13 - Firefly, Made In America '14 - Firefly, Made In America '15 - Mountain Jam (Sunday), Firefly, Pitchfork, Made In America '16 - Boston Calling, Firefly, Osheaga, Made In America, Roots Picnic NYC '17 - Boston Calling, Gov Ball, Firefly (Sunday), Pitchfork, Day For Night '18 - Boston Calling, Mountain Jam, Osheaga '19 - Form, Firefly (Sunday) '22 - Boston Calling, Firefly '24 - Solid Sound, Soundside
I have it set up as the new local stage alternating with the Blue Stage, like how Red and Green alternate
Ugh…I hope RTJ doesn’t clash with Black Pumas- I wanna see both. Maybe swap Pumas with King Gizz?
Overall I like it- thanks for putting the work in so we can daydream about warmer, better days.
i was going to put Gizz vs RTJ until I saw the possible blue stage run of Celisse > Orville Peck > Black Pumas and since BC sometimes likes to have a blue stage run with similar vibe acts I thought I would do that. Also it’s just what I want to happen lol
The What Podcast, from Consequence, just released an episode ranking the recent lineup drops, including Boston Calling. You can find it here, as well as at all of the usual places you find podcasts.

That would really mix things up. We're used to local artists being the day's openers, but now it sounds like they'll be scattered throughout the day (although I have my doubts as to whether they'll be opposing the headliners or even Blue/Red closers. Actually, doing that wouldn't be a bad idea. Given this particular top line, running with Cliff Notez, Oompa, and Avenue as small stage headliners playing at 9 pm would provide a real alternative to people who may be attending for whatever rap and R&B is scattered throughout the lineup.)
The local artists I've checked out online are a hugely mixed bag, both in terms of genres and quality, but there definitely are some artists in the mix who aren't just "good for a local act," but artists with the realistic potential to grow a national and international audience.

Maybe that small stage would be where the IKEA pavilion was a few years ago, halfway up the path between the Blue stage bleachers and the ferris wheel.
I feel pretty sure Gizz are gonna be the Blue Stage closer, but if this was the schedule I'd potentially consider coming up for Saturday.
Only conflict for me would be Earthgang and Orville but otherwise I'd get to see basically full sets from everyone I care about
My brothers and dad, who I usually go to BC with, are considering Solid Sound this year though, so I might end up there instead though
my dad is doing Solid Sound this year, he's come to a couple BC's but this lineup is definitely not his speed and he loves Solid Sound anyways
If I had easy access to transportation and lodging for Solid Sound, that would be an interesting dilemma for me. Do I opt to see one of my absolutely favorite bands two more times, after seeing them 15 times to date, along with their side projects and another artist I've been wanting to see for awhile (Bonnie "Prince" Billy) or do I go to the festival with a band I've wanted to cross off my bucket list for years, and see a lot of really interesting artists for the first time, some of whom have the potential to turn into acts I want to see again and again?
I'm a huge Wilco fan (who missed their last Boston show because I didn't feel like doing a seated venue show, even outdoors, at the peak of Delta), but the more I check out the artists in the Boston Calling lineup, the more I think that Boston Calling might be the better experience for me.

I'm always happy when the acts I want to see are on the Blue stage. I love the vibe there. There's something special about the sun starting to go down that gives a warm glow to the stadium, not far off in the distance, making it look like a coliseum from ancient Greece or Rome. The energy is different there; maybe it's because it's situated farther away from the main food vendor area and the corporate sponsor booths, but the focus feels like it's more upon the music, and only the music, at the Blue stage.
Want to book airbnb this week, are any of these buses routes good for the fest? Bus routes: 52, 57, 70, 71, 502, 504
If you're staying in Watertown and enjoy a particular perfectly legal plant (in Massachusetts, if not your home state), check out Ethos on Arsenal St.
For out of towners who haven't been to the Boston area in a few years, the number of adult-use dispensaries has skyrocketed (except in Cambridge and Somerville, where there have been issues with the licensing process and there aren't yet any recreational shops.)
If anyone's staying in the Allston/Brighton/Brookline area, there are three good choices fairly nearby on Comm Ave in Boston and in Brookline in Coolidge Corner and Brookline Village.

Cool but what bus routes do you recommend?
That question had already been answered, so I provided some ancillary information of possible interest to someone staying in Watertown.
Survey that just went out seemed to try and feel out what people may want in the Arena, including the idea of a “Roller Rink”
How would the Roller Rink idea even work? It's one thing for a stationary bowling alley or roller rink to rent out footwear, it's another to arrange for that for a one-off three-day event (and who wants to lug a pair of roller skates around with them when they go to a music festival?)
Still, if that was combined with live local musical performers or DJs, that could be fun (and people who don't want to roller skate could always sit in the stands and listen to the music.)
I'm just glad that they're planning on doing something in the arena, since that's always a great alternative if the weather gets bad.
Honestly, I just want some house DJs added. Makes zero sense that Rufus Du Sol is the one and only electronic act on the lineup. Just seems like theyre banking on them selling Friday tickets for the younger audience

also oliver tree is such a fucking lazy and boring booking, hes playing House of Blues 2 months before. Granted its sold out, but thats gotta be the closest an act has played Boston to the Festival

i had been told in 2020 when they booked a bunch of local DJs that they were going to do a roller disco in the arena with the local DJs playing. i dont think that would work nearly as well with the local bands that are on the 2022 lineup, though. and if it does somehow happen, they would 100% contract out to a rollerskate vendor for rentals on-site. having people bring their own doesnt make sense (and almost nobody would.)

Actually, what's lazy and boring is bringing back the same acts again and again. Any artist which has played the previous Harvard editions shouldn't be brought back this soon. Acts like Weezer and RTJ have a very specific stage presentation and if you've seen it once, there's nothing more they have to offer. Now, booking an all-covers Weezer set or RTJ performing with full band could be interesting, but the only music festival within the Rt. 128 beltway shouldn't be bringing the same acts back every couple of editions.
I'm looking forward to seeing Oliver Tree, which is a lot more than I can say of boring ass Weezer and one-note RTJ. Boston Calling shouldn't feel like TV Land or Nick at Night, serving up the same reheated leftovers that weren't that great the first time around.

On their last episode, they raved about the Shaky Knees lineup, so their musical tastes can't be that bad. Green Day/Nine Inch Nails/My Morning Jacket > Foo Fighters/The Strokes/Metallica, plus SK's undercard is so much better than BC's.

I see your point and agree with you that it was a poor move to bring them back so soon, but It just makes zero sense to me to book an act like Oliver Tree when they could have someone like Madeon in that spot to better fit with the Rufus Du Sol booking, considering he hasnt played in boston yet for this tour aside from a DJ set back in august. Also i’ll admit i’m salty because I find Tree’s music incredibly annoying LOL. Kid Cudi, Doja Cat or Megan in RTJs spot and Bon Iver or Vampire Weekend in Weezers spot would make this lineup look so mych better

the shaky lineup is solid but it’s incredibly clear that they have no idea what they’re talking about and that they’re completely out of touch. Their favorite lineup was Jazz Fest lol
