Actually, what's lazy and boring is bringing back the same acts again and again. Any artist which has played the previous Harvard editions shouldn't be brought back this soon. Acts like Weezer and RTJ have a very specific stage presentation and if you've seen it once, there's nothing more they have to offer. Now, booking an all-covers Weezer set or RTJ performing with full band could be interesting, but the only music festival within the Rt. 128 beltway shouldn't be bringing the same acts back every couple of editions.
I'm looking forward to seeing Oliver Tree, which is a lot more than I can say of boring ass Weezer and one-note RTJ. Now, if you book Weezer to do an all-covers set or RTJ goes on the road with a full band, then that changes the equation, but Boston Calling shouldn't feel like TV Land or Nick at Night, serving up the same reheated leftovers that weren't that great the first time around.
I see your point and agree with you that it was a poor move to bring them back so soon, but It just makes zero sense to me to book an act like Oliver Tree when they could have someone like Madeon in that spot to better fit with the Rufus Du Sol booking, considering he hasnt played in boston yet for this tour aside from a DJ set back in august. Also i’ll admit i’m salty because I find Tree’s music incredibly annoying LOL. Kid Cudi, Doja Cat or Megan in RTJs spot and Bon Iver or Vampire Weekend in Weezers spot would make this lineup look so mych better
I can't argue with any of that. Book a second EDM act for that day, and it's a more attractive one-day ticket for people who like EDM. Whether EDM, rap, metal, Americana, or any genre which has a lot of fans, you need two or three acts to move tickets to that audience.
Any of the replacements you suggested for RTJ and Weezer would be better bookings (although most of them seem like headliners anywhere other than the big five festivals).

It’s almost like RTJ was a easy grab because they were opening on one of the headliners tour.
It's an unusual situation. Both touring headliner and their opener were booked, but then the headliner dropped out.
Yeah, I’m assuming it was a package deal and when Rage made the deal postpone RTJ was still game. It’s anyones guess but I suppose BC doesn’t mind going back to the well if they fit the vibe
The Orville Peck booking just got a lot more interesting. He released the first four songs from his new album, Bronco, yesterday and the early buzz is that it broadens his musical palate to encompass psychedelia, Laurel Canyon, straightforward rock and roll, and more. I've only listened to one of the songs, but it's easily the best Peck song I've heard.

Are there after shows at BC? Asking because Bottlerock just got a Wedding Band aftershow on Friday
The Sinclair in Harvard hosted aftershows in 2019, which included a Big Red Machine show. Nothing's been announced yet but I would guess that there is going to be something is happening there, since they don't have any shows scheduled for the weekend. Also Roadrunner, the new Boston venue, isn't super far from the BC grounds and there also isn't any shows announced there for the weekend yet either, so that's a possibility
Yeah, usually The Sinclair has aftershows. More often than not they're DJ sets but occasionally also concerts. A few years back there were also aftershows at Great Scott (RIP). Doesn't look like Royale or Roadrunner have anything booked that weekend yet (though i'd think Roadrunner is too big for a traditional aftershow.)

Questlove does one at the Sinclair almost every year. I would bet on some Roadrunner and Sinclair aftershows considering theyre so close to the venue. Also for anyone not into Metallica Peaches plays the house of blues that sunday LOL

would LOVE to see glass animals do a late show at RoadRunner or something- they don't have anything during the weekend but BC (and lighting in a bottle on the 25th but)

I'm getting really curious about the schedule, since I'm anticipating a handful of conflicts between artists I want to see on Friday and Saturday, and I want to make sure I'm streaming the music of the acts I'm actually going to end up seeing, so I checked and the 2019 schedule didn't drop until early May.

Just saw Glass Animals in Portland back to back nights this week and they were absolutely incredible! Cant wait too see them again at BC. An after show would be sick too.

I've really been getting into Earthgang since the new album came out, and it has me dreading conflicts now. I felt pretty confident I'd see everyone I wanted to see, but probs not gonna happen now, le sigh.

saturday is conflict central but i have a good feeling abt friday and sunday. My biggest fear is being unable to see the top 3 that day. Friday all I have is Foos, Rufus, Pom Pom squad and Born without bones. Sunday I got Metallica, Weezer, Modest Mouse, Jbrekkie and Horsegirl with a passive interest in Glass Animals and Goose
