Selfishly, since I'm going to both SK and BC - I prefer BC doesn't get Green Day or NIN.
I mean, it's fine if they do. I just rather something different.
Well, with a top line of Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, and My Morning Jacket, the odds are fairly good that one of them will be the new Friday night headliner.
Tame Impala seems highly doubtful, playing Thursday night in Columbus, OH and Saturday night at Forecastle. They could probably get themselves and their instruments to all three gigs, but Tame Impala without their full visual rig isn't worth booking, and that might be difficult to fit in the cargo hold of a plane.
After Lolla got Metallica with a much nicer undercard I kinda started regretting booking BC lol, but I'll make the most out of it. The Strokes seem to be still awful reading reviews from their South American sets so just hoping Friday is good.

Honestly, I'm gonna go to Run The Jewels and then head out while the Strokes are on. I saw them a few years ago, and they were fine, but nothing special.

I thought their Lolla Argentina set was pretty great, the Boston crowd will suck in comparison, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching that set.

Given how already diverse the Friday line up looks, I can’t see them making a complete genre swap, as much as I’d like to see some more hip hop on the line up someone like Tyler would be so out of place next to Rufus, HAIM, Avril and Cheap Trick.
Lorde/Stevie Nicks could fit alright even though I know they probably wouldn’t scratch the itch for people who bought tickets for Foo

Doubt it will be Lorde as she doesnt really move tix anymore. My bet would be on Green Day, NIN, Stevie or Pearl Jam

will say, their crowd for the Bernie Sanders rally they played in NH in 2020 was NUTs. this is also their first boston show in over a decade. Hopefully people pull through for this and actually move

Yeah I wonder at this point how much they are looking to “move tickets” or are really just trying to keep the wheels on the cart without pissing too many more people off.
Green Day seems like the best balance of fitting into the day and probably having some interest to the folks looking forward to Foo. Pearl Jam feels like a stretch but folks probably thought the same about Metallica when talking Rages replacement. Either way, curious to see how quickly this will take to get ironed out

yeah if its Green Day I’m definitely heading out early that day but i agree with them being the most fitting replacement. Would be nice if they threw a bone and had opposed headliners again but who knows
fair enough, idk why but Billy Joe Armstrong just really annoys me for some reason. PJ i dont care for much but if its that hard to get tix for them they must be pretty fuckin good live so Id check them out
As someone who is a very casual-at-best fan of both, I would rather see Pearl Jam but only because I've never seen them and have seen Green Day twice. If I had never seen either before then I'd probably vote Green Day because i feel like upbeat pop-leaning rock is always more fun at festivals, especially at the end of the day.
Most of the names I’ve seen floating around don’t hugely move the needle for me but seem hopeful for a quality act. As long as we avoid the pop hip hop acts (Post Malone/Megan/Doja) or MGK, Ill still be generally optimistic. Still had a damn good time in 2018 and I think I could count on one hand the acts I legitimately wanted to see
Oh MGK has a show at the Garden in June, thank god!

Just another thought, What if Arcade Fire is the fill in. Its not exactly the same, but would totally work. They're clearly ready to play shows, are a phenomenal festival band, and if they want to try and move tickets having Arcade Fire's first big US show would move tickets.

i would be SO happy with this but i doubt theyd replace a stadium level act with one that couldnt sell half the tix at TD Garden

I really enjoyed their show, which was the last show I saw after March 2020 until 2022. I saw them do "meh" shows in 2003 and 2011, plus a "meh" solo Julian show in 2010. He got sober since. Still doing the same 60-something minute long shows.
Some groups who barely played together for 2+ years and are starting up in recent weeks have been showing some rustiness.

The Strokes can be hit or miss, its entirely down to Julian though as the rest of them are always spot on.
FWIW I think he blew his voice out mid-way through their Lolla SA run. I also think people take his blase on stage act a little too seriously, seemed like he was having a lot of fun when they switched things up. His rambling banter is part of the show at this point lol
