Given how already diverse the Friday line up looks, I can’t see them making a complete genre swap, as much as I’d like to see some more hip hop on the line up someone like Tyler would be so out of place next to Rufus, HAIM, Avril and Cheap Trick.
Lorde/Stevie Nicks could fit alright even though I know they probably wouldn’t scratch the itch for people who bought tickets for Foo
Stevie Nicks could work, since the Foo Fighters are so mainstream rock, but Green Day or Pearl Jam are ultimately the best bets to keep the complaints of Friday pass buyers to a minimum.

Doubt it will be Lorde as she doesnt really move tix anymore. My bet would be on Green Day, NIN, Stevie or Pearl Jam
She does move tickets, but to a different audience than the one which bought one-day passes to see the Foo Fighters. She'd be a great replacement for a cancelling pop artist.
Same reasoning behind Metallica replacing Rage. I have little to no interest in seeing Metallica, but it was a great booking as it's as close to finding a suitable replacement for a band which is the only potential headlining act of its genre (heavy rock/rap fusion?) as Boston Calling could get.
in other news, Metallica got a 2hr set at bottlerock, hoping they get that here too
Seems like there’s plenty of space in the line up to do it if they want, especially with the new Orange stage
I'm not sure if there's really more space on the music stages now, because the Orange stage is basically replacing the Arena, so instead of a dozen out of 50-ish performers on the poster being comedians and podcasters appearing in the arena, roughly the same number of artists are now local bands performing on the Orange stage instead. It's a wash.

It will still come down to how the schedule shakes out obviously, but as it stands for Green/Red/Blue stage acts 2022 has Fri - 13, Sat - 13, Sun - 13 vs 2019 Fri - 12, Sat - 16, Sun - 15, so assuming the orange fills the gaps with the blue (or even if it doesn't), you would think there would be some breathing room for some acts if they want it (Although maybe not on Friday).
Although you might be right, if the Orange stage means a few less acts on the Blue it might end up being a wash.

Another random thought from a band I'd love to see on the bill. Could a Dresden Dolls reunion headline in Boston? I know probably anywhere else they would sub, but in their hometown, and I feel like I've seen a lot of things from Amanda over the last year that she misses playing shows as Dresden Dolls. It would be a step down from Foos for sure, but it would be a cool unique booking that I feel like is on Par with a booking like Jack White from 2018.
he/they '12 - Firefly '13 - Firefly, Made In America '14 - Firefly, Made In America '15 - Mountain Jam (Sunday), Firefly, Pitchfork, Made In America '16 - Boston Calling, Firefly, Osheaga, Made In America, Roots Picnic NYC '17 - Boston Calling, Gov Ball, Firefly (Sunday), Pitchfork, Day For Night '18 - Boston Calling, Mountain Jam, Osheaga '19 - Form, Firefly (Sunday) '22 - Boston Calling, Firefly '24 - Solid Sound, Soundside

They've never really been huge, in Boston or anywhere else. The biggest venue they've done in Boston was the 5K capacity waterfront pavilion.
They've always been a cult act with a devoted fan base, but not huge awareness beyond the name if you're not a member of the cult. I remember seeing Amanda Palmer occasionally doing the human statue in Harvard Square and that made more of an impression upon me than any Dresden Dolls song that got airplay on WFNX.
I could see them headlining Blue like Sigur Ros did in 2017, but that would be about it and they'd still seem small for the spot.

The Strokes Brazil Lollapalooza show is up on youtube, didnt watch the whole thing and while it did seem a bit blumblely and maybe not the highest energy, didnt seem THAT bad given what it sounds like the Strokes live trend that way anyway, or maybe Ive just slowly lowered my bar/expectations.

The Argentina set is also up on youtube, and imo is really great. It was said earlier, but it totally just depends on Julian's mood.

What's the connection between the painted nails emoji and Pearl Jam?
My first thought was definitely NIN. Honestly kinda hoping for Harry Styles (painted nails also fits) though I don't actually think it's a realistic possibility.

Absolute worst case scenario: MGK
Zero chance of MGK with his TD date. i think hes locked in for 2023 though
Legit so sick of this festival and the 'big news' posts like just tell us whose playing. I'm not reading too much into the nails thing, I think thats just normal 'tea' type of emoji in regards to the announcement. I'm expecting Green Day or Pearl Jam still but I kind of hope its a total surprise like Arctic Monkeys, but I don't have faith in their surprises anymore lol

For the love of god please keep him away of BC, I know its probably wasted breath but ill hope all I can...

Why? He is an arena headliner, now, but he's hardly the best draw they could come up with. Setting aside the quality of his music, or lack thereof, there are so many other artists who'd sell more passes than MGK.
Pull a curveball and book Lizzo? Might actually vibe with HAIM/Avirl
That could fit the nails clue, but I just checked her website and she's got no dates listed and a new album coming out this month. Which means that she probably already booked a Boston area date for a tour which will likely be announced right around the time that the album drops.
It almost has to be someone who is doing dates this spring and summer, but doesn't have an announced Boston date yet.
(Plus, aren't they more or less boxed into booking someone who will appear to Foo Fighters fans?)

hes booked for nearly every A and B tier US fest this year aside from ones he played last year. i hate his guts but it trends towards him playing next year

Yeah seemed like a long shot persay, but seemed like she did a few random fest shows last fall so who knows. I’d imagine they’d try to stay in the Foo wheel house but who knows what the actual options are 2 months out

Thought this about Post Malone for like 3 years now, fortunately it hasn’t happened yet
