Why? He is an arena headliner, now, but he's hardly the best draw they could come up with. Setting aside the quality of his music, or lack thereof, there are so many other artists who'd sell more passes than MGK.
hes booked for nearly every A and B tier US fest this year aside from ones he played last year. i hate his guts but it trends towards him playing next year
Who knows who's going to be on the festival circuit next year? Does that even get clarified before the fall, as booking starts to heat up then?
I've said it many times here, the sweet spot is a headliner with a large devoted fan base and even more people who casually enjoy a handful of their songs. People know more about MGK's relationship with Megan Fox than they do about his music. All I really know about the guy is that he was the guest co-host for a Catfish episode a few years ago.

Thought this about Post Malone for like 3 years now, fortunately it hasn’t happened yet
i swear to god, if it happens today, you're never gonna hear the end of it
I think the only NIN song i know is Closer... Is there a place/album i should start with if i'm going to attempt to try to care about them?
Their live show is pretty next level. Trent has scaled it back in recent years but you can expect a fully formed live production that will be INTENSE. The last couple tours it's just been very bright blinding white lights and a stupid amount of smoke, very apocalyptic vibe.
Their setlists are usually quite varied, I wouldn't pay attention much to radio singles, as there's a good chance you might not hear a lot of them. Hand That Feeds, Hurt, and Head Like a Hole are probably guaranteed to be in the set but beyond that it could really go in any direction.
They're known to dig into their instrumental stuff lately (check out the Ghosts record, it's where Lil Nas X got the sample for Old Town Road) and I'd imagine they'll include some cover, the last couple years they've done some Bowie material from Blackstar.
I went to seem them in 2018 knowing only Closer, Head Like a Hole, and March of the Pigs. They blew me away, and now they are my favorite band of all time, they are that good. Here's a good starting point, this video is fan made and edited from multiple shows last tour, Trent liked it enough to share it himself.
Yeah I’m in a similar spot, they known for a particularly good/interesting live show?
i don’t mean to rag on you since you don’t know but saying that NIN is just “good” live is the understatement of the century
Great news for someone who hasn’t heard much of their music other than the older hits. I’m all for experiencing a new band live if they bring it and NIN seems to be talked about fondly in that sense!

Fuck yes! I saw NIN at Made in America and Day For Night, but both shows had shit weather. That being said they killed it both times. This is so awesome, hopefully I'm not a weather jinx.

Wait, so there's no guarantee that they're going to do that "I want to attend you like a festival" song?

Bought passes last year when Rage and Foos were announced. Trying to convince my partner to still go since we have passes. Three of my favorite bands are headlining. Hard decisions since I’m going to Shaky Knees and Dead and Co in June.

Boston Calling is its own weather jinx.
Last year on Memorial Day weekend, it rained a ton and was in the 40s
NIN is a good replacement from a quality perspective but they are magnitudes smaller from a size perspective and I don't know that they even register on the radar for a lot of 20 somethings.
