So is there a spot for fancy beer, or are we stuck with just Sam?
That Mikkeler tent in 2017 was the stuff of legends
yes! Asked a guy with a draft beer in hand, and he directed me to the craft beer oasis, in the shade with seats! Will be back tomorrow to try more beers.

realistically i still can’t go tomorrow even though i want to BUT getting i’m afraid of americans tonight makes up for it that was far and away the number one song i wanted to hear
NIN was fantastic, first time seeing them. Was center rail.
I really like the festival. It’s accessible, the crowd is good, and the layout was nice. Crowd better than Music Midtown and Gov Ball for sure. It’s like a mid sized festival that gets big acts. The main stage is small tho lol.
Gonna go explore the rest of the grounds and see Gizzard tomorrow. Then camp out all day Sunday for Metallica.
Also I would really appreciate if anyone knows any good mexican tacos around Cambridge area or on the bus 68/69 route lol. I passed by El Jefe but didnt seem too authentic to me
just letting yall know, if you held since 2020, you have a $125 credit on your wristband. pleasant surprise at the least
I was told that I had $65, but something is janky with the tap readers.
I bought a $13 + tip sandwich and was left with around $47 at one vendor, and then got a single $3 cookie + tip at another vendor and had $37 and change left. I suspect that if you accidentally tap it more than once, it can charge you double or triple. When I ended the day with a small purchase at another booth, the guy spun the screen around so quickly afterwards that I didn't see how much was left. That $2.50 purchase probably registered multiple times, too.
If I was spending my own money at Boston Calling, I definitely wouldn't link my card to a wristband, I'd just use a card.
*When I got there around 4:30, I couldn't decide what to catch, so I figured that my first proper concert set in 2-1/2 years might as well be a band I've always liked, but hadn't seen in a long while (20 years or so), so I opted for Cheap Trick...which was a big mistake. The sound at the Red stage was terrible. Way too quiet, and the mix may have been bad, too. Cut out after 20 min and decided to catch Oliver Tree.
*I'm not crazy about any of the changes made to Blue, although the sound was much better, except for a tinny phase shifting sound on cymbals. At least, my chronic aches and pains got me an ADA section wristband, so I got to sit for the Blue acts after all.
*There's a long covered bench right next to the VIP entrance at Blue, and a bunch of BPD uniformed cops we're hogging one third of the bench area, just standing in front of it, so no one could sit there. (This was before I pleaded my case to the ADA gatekeeper and got a wristband for the section.)
*Oliver Tree's shtick is kind of fun, but I never need to see him live again. You can tell he does the same routines at every show. The music sounded fine, although it was very apparent that most of his vocals were pre-recorded. I caught an Ashlee Simpson moment where he flubbed the lip sync for a second. Plus, his vocals sounded studio-treated in exactly the same way that they are on record, and it didn't sound like the sort of audio treatment which could easily be replicated by an effects pedal or auto-tune. He was the only act I caught in its entirety today.
*I had 40 min after his set (which started and finished 10 min late due to a lost kid in the crowd) to grab a bite to eat, but the lines were so long everywhere that I ended up missing Avril Lavigne's first two songs, arriving just in time for the parade of hits. It was fine and it was touching to see so many in the crowd singing along with every word. Not necessarily anyone I'd pay to see live, but it was a fun set. If she started at the listed time, however, her set ran short of its scheduled one hour run time by 10 minutes. FWIW, I don't recall ever seeing a Blue stage closer with a larger crowd before.
*Nine Inch Nails was OK. They do what they do very, very well. I don't dislike it, but I probably would have enjoyed Foo Fighters a lot more. To me, most of their songs sounded very similar and get their power from the overall sound and arrangements, as opposed to the songwriting. I started making my way to the back around 20 min. in, and was about to walk out, when they played Closer, so I hung around until the end of the song and then left, having caught 45 min.
I'd love to see Gizz and Orville Peck (or Gizz and Black Pumas) tomorrow, but the likelihood of very serious weather is making Saturday look very doubtful for me.

I can't vouch for their tacos, but I once ate a really nice Sonoran hot dog at Lone Star Taco Bar on Cambridge St., which is pretty much 90% of the 69 bus route. (I just checked their menu and they no longer do a Sonoran dog, only a grilled hot dog.) lonestar-boston.com/
Yesterday I did: Pom Pom Squad > walked around/Backseat from a distance > 1/2 of Miranda Rae > 1/2 of Paris Texas > Half of Cheap Trick > Haim from a distance > Rufus Du Sol > NIN
Probably the weakest day ive ever been, but NIN had an extremely good set. Easily my favorite headliner theyve ever had here. Pom Pom Squad was good, nothing to write home about but it was a fun and tight set. Backseat lovers were boring. Miranda Rae was a nice r&b show, honestly wasnt expecting the locals to be that great but they put a decent amt of effort into it. Paris Texas were ok, performance was fun but nothing to write home abt. Cheap Trick sounded like shit, also were unusually quiet. Haim were better than expected, would have gotten up close but had to wait for a friend coming in late for NIN. Rufus were fantastic but the TALKERS were absolutely awful, seemed most of the people at that set just wanted background music for getting fucked up.
sucks about the weather today but im excited for what i can see

Thoughts from yesterday
Started at the blue stage with Pom Pom squad. They sounded good, don’t love what they did to that stage but it’s not as bad as I thought it would be. Mid temp rock during mid afternoon sun and heat is tough.
Walked around excellent lunch at riceburg great bang for your buck.
The Struts were next I know they haven’t been deemed cool. I’ve seen them at a few fests and they’re consistently very entertaining.
Cheap Trick as was already said were not good and they were super super quiet.
We stood close to the green during Cheap Trick for Haim, and we’re pretty close as a result. They were great, but I think somebody told them the wrong set length there was a moment where they clearly paused to cut songs and then they rushed through the hits at the end. They also had some banter that was a choice.
Next we did a Rufus and Avril sandwich. Beginning of Rufus was just okay for me it was good but during daylight didn’t do a lot for me. We went to Avril who for us was just amazing. My friend and I were Nostalgic AF and it was exactly what we wanted. I think she was sick but vocally she sounded great. We went back to Rufus and it was much much better in the dark. Would love to catch a full set in total darkness.
NIN did it for me. So nice to finally catch a whole set. I liked it a lot. The way you can dance and simultaneously headbang is just great for me. Setlist was awesome. Less Than is a newer song I fucking live and was so excited to get it.
I think my friend and I have made the difficult decision not to go today unless the forecast shifts significantly. I just think it’s gonna be a shit show unless they open up the arena or something for shelter. Super super bummed to miss Orville but I don’t see how he’ll go on with a 75% chance of thunderstorms.

Paris Jackson > Grandson > Pom Pom > Backseat Lovers > The Struts > Oliver Tree > Avril > NIN I don't know what you all are talking about. That day was amazing overall. Oliver and Avril at Blue were packed and both put on a show. I think the Backseat lovers set was a bit slow, but that always happens on hot days in the early afternoon. Sometimes the crowd just gets tired and needs a break. That's why it was good to have a band like the struts to come in a reignite the crowd.
The good thing about Calling is being able to leave the grounds, go up to Harvard Square, and do something up there.
The bad thing is, the music this year starting around 2 each day. If there was a bunch of stuff worthwhile early - it'd be fine to go in and catch a set or two, then leave and get dinner/drinks while it rains, and then come back once it's over.
