Oh, I received a "How was Friday?" survey from Boston Calling and, as is completely on-brand for me, took the opportunity to unload a ton of compliments and complaints, as well as make a few editions' worth of booking suggestions.
This crowd is immediately noticeably older than in the past
I think that for a lot of the "eligible for Social Security" music fans who've been hesitant to get back to indoor venues, like me, this year's Boston Calling has been a way to dip our toes in the water of getting back to shows. I really didn't like any of the four artists I saw yesterday in a major way, but I'm so glad that I went and heard loud music through PA stacks being performed live again for the first time in 2-1/2 years, after having only seen a couple of local folk/jazz/pop artists playing in small parks last summer.
After throwing away/giving away/not buying tickets to at least 20 shows that I would have definitely seen, pre-pandemic, it felt great to be back, even if the music wasn't perfect for my return to shows.

The weather.com hourly forecast for Allston, MA is definitely showing a bit of a downgrade to the storm action since yesterday's forecast for today.
The full thunderstorm prediction now only covers two hours from 4 pm - 6 pm, and then we're back to scattered thunderstorms for a few hours with the percentage indicating likelihood of thunderstorms dropping to below 60% for the rest of the day.
Plus, when you click on any given hour, the amount of rain forecast for any given hour is miniscule, with 0.0 something (0.02, 0.04, etc, for example) from 4 pm on.
I might just play it by ear and if this trend continues, head out around 4 pm and if everything seems manageable, just keep going. If the weather gets really bad, I'll either wait things out for a bit wherever I happen to be or turn around and go home. King Gizzard and Orville Peck are my two most anticipated sets of the weekend, and I can easily see going to both of their sets, sticking to Blue while I'm there (I can feast on what's left on my wristband tomorrow), and then heading home.

Yes!! The forecast has now been downgraded to only isolated or scattered thunderstorms between 3 - 9. This is increasingly looking tolerable, and not like a repeat of Lorde/Gambino day in 2014.
A hoodie and a ballcap may be sufficient to get through this.
What looked like a torrential downpour may only be...a dripping tap.
I’m waiting it out, too, at Fenway Park. Good game with a little bit of everything. Today could work out well. Yesterday we enjoyed:
Cheap Trick- can’t believe these guys are still at it, or that kids were singing along.
Avril Lavigne- an absolute blast, crowd packed all the way to the back of Blue viewing area.
Haim- They sing! They strum! They dance! They drum! Favorite set of the day.
Nine Inch Nails- never been a huge fan, but halfway through, Trent expressed his heartfelt appreciation for fans showing up because “we weren’t supposed to even be here”. Then they absolutely lit the place up with a barrage of their best (IMO) stuff.
Rain or not, the place is covered with plenty of artificial turf and paved paths, so we shouldn’t get too muddy. See y’all soon!
Shoot...just checked weather.com, and it's back to full thunderstorms from most all of now through 8 pm, switching to scattered thunderstorms by 9, and precipation-percentage in the high 70's - mid 80's between 6 - 8, which is prime Gizz/Peck time. Glad I held off before making the call, but it looks like I'm out.
Gates reopen at 5:30, music resumes at 6. Revised schedule due out shortly. The silver lining, if Gizz has cancelled, too, is that they could move Black Pumas into the Blue closer spot, bump up someone who got cancelled on Green or Red during the washout to Black Puma's original stage and time, and get rid of that ridiculous conflict between Orville Peck and Black Pumas, both of whom were holding down the "Could have easily played Newport/Beach Road/Railbird" spots in the lineup.

Doesn’t look like they made a change to that conflict. But King Gizzard is off the schedule.
Peck's set has been cut back from an hour to 40 minutes, so EARTHGANG can play a one hour set on Blue from 7:30 - 8:30.
So, the two biggest rap artists of the festival are going head to head. They could have done what I recommended above and had EARTHGANG in Black Pumas' timeslot, which would have enabled people to see both Pumas & Peck...or RTJ & EARTHGANG. I suspect that that would have made more people happy.

im assuming they’re trying to move as little equipment as possible, it would just delay times more if they had to get black pumas stuff to blue, earthgang to green, etc

That’s a good point. EARTHGANG is higher billed than Orville also. Still it doesn’t make a lot of sense to put the two big hip-hop acts against each other but weather sucks

They still have to get EARTHGANG's stuff to Blue. There would have been one big move across the grounds either way.
