I've been capping my lists at 40 albums since I started doing them in 2016. It gives me a chance to show that I listened to more than the 10 or so albums that end up on every list without ending up with a ton of stuff on there that I only listened to a couple times. Plus I think the order is much less significant once you get past 50 or so

I was listing stuff out yesterday and was right between 30-40. probably listen to a few more, save a spot for Avalanches and call it a day
I'm guessing I've probably heard about 125+ albums this year...Could be closer to 200, but it's hard to say.
I always have music playing while I'm in my office, and a decent amount of the time it's new stuff...And that of course is aside from all the time spent listening to music at home, on the road, on my turntable, etc.
Speaking of albums that might get overlooked (and Rummy 500 and Radius Claus might like em prolly a good bit) is that Ichiko Oaba released a new album.

I do the same except usually capping at 20. I'd like to do a concise top 10, but it's too hard and there are usually more albums I really liked and want to shout out.
Kid Cudi dropping MOTM 3 on Fri? Paul McCartney with his III album next week too.
Who knows if either will be good or not, but it sucks that Dec releases get lost in the shuffle. Released too late to make that year's lists but forgotten about by the time the next year's list come out.
Interested to hear what are some personal favorite albums of the year that are no where on any of these critics lists. Has to be a few out there.
Here's a batch of albums I've loved this year, that I haven't seen on many (or any) lists:
Psych/Stoner/Doom: Slift - Ummon Dope Smoker - Zeroin Kayleth - Colossus Temple of the Fuzz Witch - Red Tide King Mountain - Beleaguered Earthdiver - Lord of the Cosmos
Rock/Shoegaze/Indie: Ringo Deathstarr - Self-Titled Hum - Inlet Nothing - Great Dismal No Joy - Motherhood Gleemer - Down Through Narrow Head - 12th House Rock Frankie & The Witch Fingers - Monsters Eating People Eating Monsters OSees - Portean Threat L.A. Witch - Play With Fire Death Valley Girls - Under the Spell of Joy
Misc: Mark Lanegan - Straight Songs of Sorrow Six Organs of Admittance - Companion Rises After Dark 3 (After Dark Series) - Italians Do It Better Compilation The Pilgrim - From The Earth To The Sky And Back I Break Horses - Warnings Katatonia - City Burials Widowspeak - Plum
surprised Protean threat is being left off a lot, big upgrade from the last couple, and people were putting Smote Reverser on lists
I feel the exact opposite. Big step down from Smote and Face Stabber and probably my least favorite main album since maybe Castlemania.
For me it's somewhere in between. I didn't like Smote too much (badass album cover though), but I loved Face Stabber. I feel Protean is almost as good as Orc, which isn't too shabby. My favorite from the 2010s though is A Weird Exits...Rocks really hard, with the perfect album closer that's Floyd-esque in the best way.
5.5/four tet, daphni b2b floating points, avalon emerson 5.12/neil young 5.19/mannequin pussy 5.21/serpentwithfeet 5.25/hozier 6.12-16/bonnaroo 6.28/goose 6.29/goose 9.17/the national + the war on drugs 9.23/sigur ros 9.27-29/making time 10.17/air

Sunwatchers (psych rock/jazz) The beths (indie rock)
I gotta revisit these two before making my list. Remember loving them both when they came out. They just came out real early (Sunwatchers was January iirc?)

they had an album in april (oh yeah?) and an EP in May (brave rats). I like the former a little better than the latter, but they are both good.
Trying to relisten to a lot of stuff before the end of the year. Just listened to Dua Lipa and Lianne La Havas back to back and they might get switched on my list. That's more like me right?
