For some asinine reason Pitchfork has completely ignored SAULT this year...No reviews of either Untitled album, articles, features, etc.
It's puzzling that there is habitually at least 2-3 critically acclaimed artists/bands that Pitchfork does not cover each year...Combine this with their notoriously pompous attitude, leads me to conclude that they can f*ck off.
Not sure if this is known but I was just digging around. www.facebook.com/CleoSol I think this is one of the voices on Sault. Only listened to part of a song, but I will be listening soon.

Yeah, CleoSol's involvement in SAULT was speculated for some time and was pretty much confirmed once Untitled (Black Is) came out...Since she was promoting the record heavily on her social media, and the writing credits for the songs are listed on the digital versions of the tracks.
Here's one snippet from an article on Chicago Reader:
"Though the band omit biographical information from their liner notes and website, the metadata buried in the digital versions of these songs reveal that they were written by Forever Living Originals labelmates Dean Josiah Cover (aka UK producer and singer Inflo) and Cleopatra Nikolic (better known as singer Cleo Sol). And if the voice on tracks such as “Black Is” sounds familiar, that might be because it belongs to fellow Forever Living Originals artist and Chicago native Melisa Young, aka Kid Sister, who’s listed in the metadata as a writer on six of the album’s 20 songs."

Interested to hear what are some personal favorite albums of the year that are no where on any of these critics lists. Has to be a few out there.
A few for me:
Alanis Morissette - Such Pretty Forks in the Road: Easily her best work since Jagged Little Pill, and could make the case for her best album period. Really good work.
Royce da 5'9 - The Allegory: Not that I usually put any stock into the Grammys, but I'm happy to see Royce finally get some recognition with the nomination. Not seeing his album on any of these site lists is a little disappointing.
Mondo Cozmo - New Medicine: With good rock music becoming more and more rare, this was a nice listen. I know some others on here liked it as well, but it didn't get much critical acclaim.
Fenne Lily - Breach: One of the better indie/folk albums released this year.
Perfume Genius probably had my favorite album of the year, but that one got plenty of deserved recognition.

Lots of good stuff here that I'm not seeing on other lists

Haven't seen at least six from my likely top 10 (Shopping's All or Nothing, The Wants' Container, Pallbearer's Forgotten Days, Zebra Katz's Less Is Moor, NZCA Lines's Pure Luxury, Ashley McBryde's Never Will) mentioned on any lists yet.

'Rose in the Dark' by Cleo Sol is another of the albums of the year for me. I believe it came out between the two Sault albums. And to address your previous retort, it's been great to see more women on these lists in recent years but this year is especially loaded in my opinion.
Pretty sure another of the Sault members is Inflo. Here's the only solo track I've been able to find but you can tell it's Sault-y. He's on the production side of it.

She's great, she was also featured on Little Simz's "Selfish". Another fun fact: Kid Sister of "Pro Nails" fame is also a cowriter on a couple of SAULT songs!

I read somewhere that Little Simz has also contributed to SAULT too, this all makes sense.

I thought the Killers new album was top notch. I was only a casual fan of theirs before this, but Imploding the Mirage is a really great listen front to back. Also really liked the This is the Kit album too
I don't really think it's that weird to list like 50 when you've listened to 75. I mean did you really check out 74 albums that you probably weren't gonna like anyways or from artists/genre that you don't like/are into? Probably not the case. The more listen, the 'better' your list could probably be.
yeah I don't really vibe with that thought process (the judging people for short lists, not the feeling like you can't do one because you didn't listen to enough)
lol just seeing a list of a top 25 and immediately thinking "fucking casuals probably didn't even listen to 300 albums this year" is ridiculous, there's no possible way to know, and even if they didn't who cares
I don't think I've seen any list that leans that hard into the idea that it's anything other than the personal opinions of its writers and that they've listened to everything they could

My Spotify playlist is at 137 albums.
By contrast, I've seen just under 70 movies. Gonna try and hit 80 or 85 before the end of the year. Obviously you can't listen to everything and if you're listened to/watched only enough to do a top 25 then nobody should stop you lmao
