Shame 'El Ultimo Tour Del Mundo' is not getting included in all of these lists cause I actually like it quite a bit more than 'YHLQMDLG' - probably because it barely happens an artist gets into these lists twice.
This year is weak af at the top. No masterpieces for me. Or albums I expect to adore and listen to for many years to come.
nice way to think of it
like compared to 2010, 2020 is going be a weak year in the 20-29 best decade list
There's probably like 8-ish albums by my metric (4,10/5 or higher) that are worthy of including in an AotD-list which yeah means, it's kind of been a weak list.

It’s also got bad timing - I doubt a lot of publications got a copy of the album before they made their year end of lists before December because of the album’s surprise release, and the fact it got released at the end of November means it’ll probably be forgotten when the time comes to make year end lists in 2021.

I'll never understand why these publications already drop their lists this early. Cause this is what happens when you skip an entire month of music being released. With us, we start our year-end lists in the thirth week of december (so we start 12/21) and the prep for it basically goes until next week Sunday.

Probably because some people will purchase albums as gifts during holiday season, and look at these publications to get an idea.

I'll be updating mine all the way up to the end of the year, as I go back and listen to things. I guess these publications can't do that. They have to put it out before Christmas.
I like the Waxahatchee album quite a bit, but I'm a little surprised it is making so many Top Fives.
hot take: she put out an album inspired by lucinda williams, and Lucinda put out the better album this year (but isn't getting the same accolades).
I need to listen to Lucinda. She's one I never really listened to for whatever reason. I've loved every Waxahatchee album and this one is the best. That's why it's so high on my list.

I feel like I listened to lots of stuff once, but then just defaulted to my comfort music a lot: jazz, 90's alt rock, or jam. Being at home all the time with kids around all the time meant I kept things "safe" a lot; familiar stuff I knew wouldn't be too offensive, abrasive, or abstract for wandering ears. Making a list is gonna be hard.

This is also why Grammy nominations came out this week

None at all? You were pretty gung-ho about RTJ4 when it dropped, and I thought you really liked the new Gorillaz, but maybe you soured on the album cuts.

Those are like 2 of my top 3. Like them both a lot. One thing that unfairly happens though, is that if an artist drops their third best album like gorillaz did, Ill just end up going back to Demon Days or Plastic Beach way more often 5 years from now I think. Same with RTJ 2 for them.
Caribou, Grimes, Tame, Gorillaz, RTJ, Fleet Foxes, Charli... seems like a lot of artists I love dropped their 2nd-4th best album and nobody cracked a complete home run.

I agree on the year end lists coming out too soon. We actually do ours in January, which is probably too late, but we're a monthly publication and we're not about to release a list before The Avalanches album drops. Also if anyone would like to contribute, just lemme know. Dave Maynar usually takes part. By the way, you in this year, Dave?
