Sorry, but if you follow college basketball, following the decisions of high school kids has always been part of it lol. Get real.
lol not really. i didnt go to a big school and im in philly where our biggest program is nova who doesnt get those high end guys anyway. like i said as i got older i dont care either. i like the actual game.
But those "kids" should be forced to stay at the same school because they play sports. Then you'd be happier. Even though any other student can transfer at any time.
lol there's always been rules to transferring that are all ignored now. you wanna transfer you used to have to get an ok from the coach and then you are ineligible for a year.
And there was no waiting period for coaches. That was unfair. Now it is fair.
Yall are way overblowing this "different school every year" thing. That is very uncommon. Almost everyone Kentucky added has played at exactly one other school in their career. The WVU kid played at two. Their credits still have to transfer, etc.
There’s a lot of kids going to 3 or 4 schools. One issue that probably only matters to the fans of the schools, who do you say these guys played for when you look back on it? Bad example because this guy isn’t going pro or being honored for anything, but when they’re talking about Jack Clark they’d go Jack Clark from Lasalle, NC St, Clemson, VCU! Just awkward. There’s going to be no loyalty to a school anymore. That’s going to be hard on fans.
There aren't that many and the ones that did were doing what was best for them. Sorry, Clemson!

There are definitely Nova fans that follow recruiting. If you wanna play this game, following sports at all is silly.

Ha, not worried about that. PJ Hall stayed for 4 years and when he’s in the NBA next year it will just say PJ Hall- 6’10- Clemson .

lol did i say others dont? i dont care about nova one way or the other. i get it KY has nothing else so youre big into this, it not like hat in every city, man.

I live in Houston and you don't need to be a fucking asshole.

I'm shocked a Philadelphian went the "there's so much to do in my city I couldn't possibly keep up with a sports off-season" route when yalls thing is exuberantly eating horse shit when your team wins the Super Bowl.
bro, that wasnt even an eagles fan lol it was a loser cowboys fan who lost a bet. but, hey you dont gotta be jerkoff i thought?
you also completely misconstrued what i meant about KY. i never been so i have no idea what there is to do. they dont have any pro teams is what i was getting at. thought that was obvious.
i dont get how you think bcuz someone like college sports they follow or care recruiting on a deep level
no, see i love college hoops and watch it more than the NBA. but, i dont care to follow what teenagers are doing in the off season as a grown adult and like we said its not the kids fault. i watch the end result of the portal.
Maybe I got that wrong because I also misinterpreted how condescending this phrasing is. In the college basketball thread. In May.
If you don't care about recruiting, transfers, etc. that's absolutely fine. It's just very weird to me that you also want to complain about it happening too much. Based on what?

I think it’s easier to be all about “players/workers rights” when you root for UK. They’ll always get whoever they want regardless of rules and are used to having a new team every single year for the past decade so lack of transfer rules don’t really affect them.

like i said the games are the end result of the portal. it sucks the way it is but there are positives that result in it for some of the under recruited players who tams missed on like the kid that was Bama from south dakota. i think jamal mashburns son just transferred to temple, like obviously someone paid him more than hes likely worth to come.

Which is why I'm asking for what specifically the problem with the current system is and what specific measures should be implemented. You're right, the rules don't matter to me for my personal bias. Every response I've gotten has been some variation of "well, I don't like it".

I think staffs now have to focus on player retention, portal recruiting, and fundraising for NIL in ways they haven’t had to before. If you’re a school with already limited resources (large majority of schools) it’s going to be really hard to compete. For like Top 75 D1 type schools I think they will just have to adjust and the product will be about the same just with more roster variation.
Personally I liked the rule that you had to sit out a year if you transfer without graduating. It’s not like you couldn’t transfer schools, you just couldn’t play basketball for a year. And your point that coaches could still do it…. ok make them sit out a year too idc.

They're never gonna do that to coaches. It doesn't make sense to do it for players. It's just more control over these young people's lives. How you could justify that *and* not paying them I could never understand. Every single transfer story is one of a player going to a situation that's better for them, like the Bama kid ne215 mentioned. They're doing what's best for them. Maybe my experience as a Kentucky fan and our roster churn over the past decade helps me understand this, but my/our feelings as fans of an institution are a lot less important than their lives.
I do think it's a strain on a lot of lower level coaching staffs. That's a more compelling argument to me. I'm still not sure it matters that much, though, if those guys are making at least decent salaries and their players are making nothing. That's the job. It's a grind.

I guess I just don’t think it’s that big of an impact to their lives to have to sit out a year if they transfer. They can still attend classes at the next school, they can still get NIL money, they can still participate in all team activities except the actual games so they can still develop. They’re incentivized to graduate early so they can transfer freely as grad students. If they’re pro talents they can find a pro team somewhere.
Watching players develop over their college career is just the best and worth preserving in college hoops. I bet you’re going to love Travis Perry after 4 years more than the 200 lottery picks that have rolled through Lexington recently (should have been a Bearcat).

I've been looking at Kentucky, especially with all the seniors we've got this year, like a grad program. Maybe you're not ready for the league yet, but you're too good to just hang around at a mid-major. Come get your master's at UK.
I'm sure I'll love Travis Perry. But I'll continue to love Reed Sheppard and Rob Dillingham and anyone else from this year. They didn't do shit in the postseason but they'll always be Cats. It's a big tent. What will make me *really* love Perry is if he brings home a title.
You can't tell me all-time HS leading scorer in the state Mr. Kentucky Travis Perry was ever meant to be anything but a Wildcat.

I think Travis Perry will be so good for Mark Pope, just salty. The rumors towards the end of his recruitment were that it was between Cincinnati and Ole Miss because Kentucky had basically stopped recruiting him altogether.
Also even though I’m for some form of transfer restrictions, I think if your coach leaves you should be able to transfer freely full stop.

I think it's ok to support the rules being the way they are because it benefits the players, and acknowledge that it sucks how much player movement there is right now. It's a big change, and change is hard. It'll be the norm in 3-5 years.

#1 and #5 scorers in Kentucky HS basketball history in the same class. Decommitted from South Carolina. They let him out of his NLI. Love getting these in-state guys cuz they're natural multi-year players typically.
