sang_xcx what’s going on with the offense? I’ve been seeing people calling for Tony Elliot’s head. I haven’t been able to watch any Clemson games this year.

No idea. They can’t get anything going DJ doesn’t look right. We didn’t even try to throw the ball down the field today. No big plays at all.

TBH I am among those people at this point. Bring back Morris at this point.
I mean, only half true. We haven’t given up a td on defense.
Yeah, the defense looks pretty good. I think in reality Clemson is finding out that replacing one all-world quarterback with another is tough to do. Replacing back to back all world quarterbacks is damn near impossible.

He was great when he started against ND and BC last year. I really have no idea what’s going on. We literally haven’t made a big play all year.
Don't know how it happened but Texas Tech is 3-0?? They also haven't really had any competition besides U of H. Game last night was great, they also did a Ring of Honor induction for Crabtree so it was dope to see him back in Lubbock.
I’ll trade both Fuente and his offensive coordinator for Tony Elliot and send a gift basket over if it was accepted.
I was just thinking this past weekend on how many "great" coaching hires recently have just not worked out at all. Fuente isn't the worst, but I know you've been plenty disappointed by him.

15-16 was a tough couple of years for bigger schools looking for new coaches. Herman, Muschamp, Taggart, Richt, Helton, Odom, Pruitt all out the door or seem to be headed that way.

Fuente is certainly not the only G5 coach who has struggled to make a successful leap in a power conference, but it’s not just about the W’s/L’s with him. He was suppose to be a QB whisper with his track history, and every QB he has brought in has under-performed and left early. Quincy Patterson being the prime example of that. We have also been at the bottom of recruiting for power conferences 2+ years and can’t keep a recruiting director on staff for more than 9 months.
The most frustrating part of it is his OC, known as Corn by VT fans, who came with him from Memphis. I could write 3 pages on how bad the playcalling has been since they arrived at VT but all I will say is I wanted to rip my eyeballs out after those 4 plays when it was 1st and goal from the 4 with the game on the line Saturday.

I'd say you are forgetting Harbaugh out of that era as well. He's 49-22 right now, but that's not nearly what was expected of him. I was thinking about Scott Frost too as it felt like it was an event when he moved on from UCF where the team that got him was guaranteed some Ws. To a lesser extent, Norvell should be in there too. I think less was expected of him, but I feel like FSU is an even bigger dumpster fire than Tennessee at this point.

Since we’re talking about coaches being hired within that time there’s a case to be made that Kirby Smart is Mark Richt 2.0 despite having better recruiting classes than Richt since he’s been there.

It’s funny that Harbaugh and Franklin have basically identical records and Franklin is leading the USC talk and Harbaugh is a disappointment.

how people think of Harbaugh’s Michigan tenure is a pretty easy test for me if someone understands the 2021 college football landscape. Essentially no high school football talent in the state of Michigan anymore, and he still rolls out nine win seasons

I'd take Harbaugh over Franklin easy, but that may be influenced by me just not liking Franklin.
Not to say Franklin isn't excellent as well. Getting great recruiting classes at that place is a challenging task. Location is not bad, but you still have the legacy of Sandusky

Harbaugh’s legacy looks totally different if Barrett gets called short in 2016 and they don’t fumble that punt against MSU in 2015. There’s plenty of reasonable things to criticize the guy for. He’s an abrasive personality that wears on his assistants and players (especially when things aren’t going well) and he should have jettisoned Don Brown much sooner, but Michigan fans who were calling for his head last year thinking the next guy would do any better were kidding themselves.

i mean it’s not Florida but there is talent in the state of Michigan. Also Ohio is right there and Michigan taps into that pretty often. Given the Michigan brand Harbaugh should have no problem recruiting.

Of course A&M would start the season with a major injury at QB
Hoping Calzada is ready for the role, conference play starts this weekend. Realistically I'm just assuming the team will keep my hopes up until the last minute and then tank like I'm used to

Does anyone have any college football podcast recommendations? I listen to one but they spend way too much time talking about other things besides football and all of their opinions on everything else are awful.

There's generally roughly 10 four stars in Michigan a year compared to 40 four stars in a state like Georgia. The population is essentially the same between the two states. They have to kill it nationally every year. The other schools that recruit nationally besides Notre Dame have a serious institution-wide focus of football first everything else second, which is never going to be the way it is at Michigan.
Hard to imagine another coach doing much better than Harbaugh at Michigan.
