I figure there's no better place to start the new thread than Tennessee being Tennessee.
Oh good. I really picked the perfect day to deactivate the ole f account, ey? What do you think this means for Kevin Steele? I am just hearing about this so I haven't reached out to anyone, but surely they won't just promote him, right? Is his hiring still a thing? What a mess.

I am really curious on the Steele hiring now. I feel like with Fulmer choosing this exact time to retire (for what I am sure is just a total coincidence) that nobody who is currently employed by the football program is safe. Probably depends on how the next coach feels about him. I don't think he'd get promoted to the HC role unless things go really wrong in the hiring search bc he seems like a downgrade. With the connection to Tennessee and being out of a job, I could see him taking the job to serve as a bridge. I could also see that Pruitt and Fulmer may have thought things would going to settle down and were wrong in that assessment.

Tennessee is a basketball school and has been for over ten years. The relationship between UT football and its fans is an abusive one. Do fans from other schools not want to play Tennessee in basketball at this point or am I inflating them? It needs to get to a final four before other people take UT seriously, I'd guess, but I'm curious to know what other folks think.

There's an ncaa basketball thread. You'd probably get more responses there as I'm sure the crossover isn't 100%.I don't follow basketball close enough to have a legit opinion.

UT was avoiding the UConn women for a while, then lost when they played in Hartford last year.
Happened to see they're playing in Knoxville on Thursday

Lots of talk about Level I violations. Even more than the team not being good, all this today may be more about Tennessee trying to avoid larger consequences. University press conference starting soon. Should be interesting.

From the press conference, Pruitt, the two assistants and seven other staff are being fired for cause. The phrasing made it appear like Pruitt didn't do anything first hand but is taking the fall bc he's in charge and the good old "not promoting an atmosphere". No big specifics on what as the internal and ncaa investigations are still ongoing. They did mention that staff actively hid violations from compliance staff. Search will be AD then HC in that order. Steele will be the interim coach and was not hired for the role. The chancellor was very much obviously in charge of the message with both Fulmer and the president deferring to her to the point that Fulmer said he'll be involved with the AD search if she asks him to be. Fun times.
Let me tell you something about the Clemson-SC rivalry. I'm at my brother-in law's funeral yesterday I'm with the family. This woman comes through the line of people giving condolences. I'm wearing a Clemson mask because it's the only one I have. She tells me she hates my mask.
Fisher would be an interesting get. I'd like to see UT pursue Blackwell for AD again, but who knows. The nonsensical timing, inarticulate dismissal, and meltdown are all classic signs of the cycle restarting where we began by hiring Dooley.
That Coastal Carolina guy seems promising but I've kinda seen enough of us giving a promising young man his first shot in the P5 as HC just to feed him to the wolves. By the way, is there a discord or anything that inforoo uses now? Been swamped with real life but its nice to see the usual suspects still posting on here. Hope you all have been safe, healthy, and happy.

I did watch that whole press conference thinking this was peak Tennessee action. Pruitt's lawyer has of course stated that Pruitt is getting railroaded by Tennessee. I wish it was more surprising the fans that think this is all a screw job to avoid paying him a buyout. I'm totally sure that the university paid money for the investigation and the legal action from Pruitt which i am sure is incoming to fire a coach in mid January which pretty much ensures this recruiting class will be at the bottom of the SEC. Tennessee makes awful choices but give them a tiny bit of credit.
In related news, Dan Patrick has the first report that one of the violations relates to recruits getting handed McDonald's bags of money during campus visits. Good job, idiots.
Re: the coaching search, I feel like we are stuck in the same routine we're always in where the fan base wants them to hire some five star slam dunk coach with no respect for Tennessee not being a five star destination for multiple reasons. Tennessee fans just have to accept it's going to take more than three years to get the program together. Nobody on earth is going to win us the conference in the next three years stop crucifying coaches for not beating Alabama.
No idea on discord. I would legit have to get the kids or the girlfriend's kids to teach me. Haha.

lol wow
In news just for you, there are a billion articles out right now as you might expect about who Tennessee could pursue and/or hire. I saw one yesterday about BOB. My favorite part was something to the effect of, "He makes sense even though the fanbase will hate the idea of it."
