Does anyone have any college football podcast recommendations? I listen to one but they spend way too much time talking about other things besides football and all of their opinions on everything else are awful.
if you actually want good sound football takes, Cover 3 podcast. If you just want fun and shooting the shit, The Shutdown Fullcast.
Unless the Tulsa coach is available. That guy is going places
Right now Ohio State seems to be discovering the same thing Harbaugh did which is “you want Greg Mattison coaching your D”
Its funny because their defense is pretty bad, but if Stroud were anywhere close to what people thought he would be, they would probably still be the title favorite. Maybe Quinn can learn the offense by the Penn State game and save their season.
i mean it’s not Florida but there is talent in the state of Michigan. Also Ohio is right there and Michigan taps into that pretty often. Given the Michigan brand Harbaugh should have no problem recruiting.
There's generally roughly 10 four stars in Michigan a year compared to 40 four stars in a state like Georgia. The population is essentially the same between the two states. They have to kill it nationally every year. The other schools that recruit nationally besides Notre Dame have a serious institution-wide focus of football first everything else second, which is never going to be the way it is at Michigan.
Hard to imagine another coach doing much better than Harbaugh at Michigan.
Georgia is one of the best states in producing talent in the nation so yeah comparing Michigan to that doesn’t look too hot but they have talent. Michigan isn’t New Jersey or whatever. Plus Ohio is right there. Also Michigan is one of the biggest brands in football which allows them to recruit nationally with more ease than most other programs in all of college football.
I don’t disagree that there aren’t many coaches who would’ve done better than Harbaugh at Michigan. Just the idea of Michigan having a tough time recruiting is not true.

Yeah, I guess I mean in a relative sense. They have advantages compared to schools like Wisconsin, Nebraska, or Iowa. Still, Michigan fans seem to think they should be competing with Florida, TAMU, LSU, and Ohio State, which all have a pretty sizeable geographic advantage over Michigan.

Yeah they definitely aren’t there anymore and haven’t been for awhile.

as mentioned, cover 3 is great. Their locks pod on Thursday is probably the highlight of my week, don't judge me.
Split zone duo is a great podcast too, it's like the woke college football podcast. Alex is a Pittsburgh guy who went to Maryland, Godfrey is a Mississippi guy, Richard is a Florida guy. They do a "tasting menu" to preview each week and they do a 30 min rundown Sunday mornings of the prior day's action. They also have a Patreon where they do hot coach Goss and stuff and I'm all about that life.
Finally, I like The Athletic people - Andy Staples, Nicole Auerbach.

Thanks all. Will give those a whirl. Definitely want to try to find one that doesn’t give disproportionate amount of time to the SEC. I get enough of that on Carolina message boards/podcasts.

There are four or so really strong football schools in Texas so idk that A&M has a massive geographical advantage, really. Also joining the SEC opened the state to all those other schools, or at least that was the thinking when they joined.

Splitzone is great too. Don’t listen as much as I would like to

It's definitely early, but right now A&M is the only school in Texas that's ranked. I would be interested to see which schools you consider "really strong". I'll give you UT of course, but it's hanging on by it's name and certainly not it's talent. Baylor and Tech are always capable of being a season spoiler, but I don't consider either of them really strong.

Texas, A&M, TCU and Baylor are all capable of competing to make the CFP or being as good as A&M is this year, certainly competing for individual recruits with A&M. Tech, SMU and UH to a lesser extent are competing with A&M for recruits, and UH will moreso once they are in the Big XII. A&M does not own the state the way LSU or Ohio State own theirs. Maybe UF is comparable because they have FSU, Miami and UCF to deal with, but I think on the whole those Texas programs are more powerful players.
imo the best parallel for Michigan is Oklahoma but they have a much stronger regional connection to Texas recruits than UM has to Ohio/Midwest
Oklahoma also 100% wants to be really really good and is willing to sacrifice whatever is needed to be good. The chancellor at Oklahoma has football as a near top priority. not the case at michigan.
There was a long article that dropped yesterday about Miami and the dynamics around why they arent good that was a good very good read, but I'll quote this from the article which applies to a lot of schools like Michigan, USC and Miami that used to be good but arent now.
"Those two people said inside the Board of Trustees, there’s frustration with UM football — including from at least one significant donor — but different opinions about what to do and a resignation about two realities:
1. While many fans are angry about the state of the football program, president Frenk is largely unfazed by the situation.
2. Miami likely doesn’t have the money to lure an elite proven coach to replace Diaz.
On the Frenk issue, one trustee put it this way this week: “Julio is a very good guy, excellent president, but not a sports-minded guy. If this was Donna Shalala, she would be all over this. She wanted to be a winner all the time. Julio is not involved in sports. He’s not going to step in and say, ‘Let’s get rid of this coach.’”

was really making that connection in regards to legacy/geographical location to other football hubs, OSU/MSU similar competition, but yeah it's definitely a much bigger identity thing for OU fans.
they're a bottom 5 fanbase for me, they back it up, but most OU people I know are exhausting to talk about football with
When A&M beats Arkansas that will be pretty cool for them
They could use a big win after putting up 10 points and almost losing to CU.
Our starting QB was out in the first quarter of our second game of the season. Last week we beat NM handily 34-0. It's not going to be an easy game for anyone, but I'm still calling A&M for the win
