Ok. New Mexico is pretty bad, though. Aggies took care of business, but they were a 31.5-point favorite.
When is the last time CU did anything of note? Texas/SEC teams tend to have a leg up on size alone when it comes to competing against these mountain west teams. I'm not going to deny that A&M looked sad during that game, but having to reconfigure at QB that early is tough, and they came back the next week to show they can still beat the schools they're supposed to in a way that reflects their actual talent. We beat the spread and kept them from scoring at all.
Aggies defense is elite, but covering against New Mexico and against Arkansas are completely different animals.
Absolutely! I'm just saying that with only 3 non-conf. games under anyone's belt, it's hard to judge long-term viability on one bad game with a major injury.
The Aggie/Arkansas game will be the best of the day IMO

um CU is in the PAC-12, still theoretically a P5 conference

Ok let me rephrase...when is the last time a PAC-12 or Mountain West team was a true contender for the NC? It's been over a decade since one of their teams came close

Oregon was in the NC game back in 2014. And Washington made the playoff in 2016.

Oregon lost by 22 points and only had 73 less yards of pass/rush. Which means they put in as much work as OSU and still lost by a considerable amount.
As far as Washington, there will always be a lone team that comes from the west because someone is always a standout/undefeated, and they deserve their chance IMO if that's the case. But none of those teams ever make it far enough to show they can put up the same performance when it comes to teams like Bama, OSU, Clemson, etc.

They were in the CFB/national title game if that’s not national title contenders idk what is

I don't think one-off appearance almost a decade ago qualifies as a regular contender. Yes, there are always seasons where teams like this make it through. Oregon is a beast of a team offensively a lot of the time. But they aren't built to stand up to the more prominent conferences. I'm in no way trying to take away from the talent.

I don’t disagree there, though Oregon has knocked on the CFP door a couple of other years as well. Looks like they will be again this year.

The reconfiguring of these super conferences will be interesting to see. Once OU and Texas join the SEC the landscape will change
