Only real reason to go weekend 1 is having like 1.5 days of grass, but I feel it makes a difference as far as dust and my feet goes personally. On top of that, all my friends just go weekend 1.
Prices this year are insane though, it sucks that this is probably just the standard going forward. The weekend 2 problem can't be that serious for GV because they just keep cranking out 2 weekends knowing that one of them has significantly lower attendance but who knows.
4th Coachella for me 🕺. This feels surreal finally being able to return after almost three years of no polo fields.
This would be my 13th year going! Started going 2006 but I skipped 2016 and 2018.
18 and counting, young buck. 👴🏻
Both weekends will still be my thing personally. Gf already decided that its one weekend from here on out after using these passes because of the house buying and all. Im sure the price change will effect lots of other people.
Discussion question: Do you think this is a permanent change? Or is it Goldenvoice recovering lost income and they will remove tiers and all the other bs they just created and simplify with some middle of the road price next year?. Because the logical mindset is if youre paying more money then they have to justify the price with the talent booked. A general consensus is that with them skipping the fall and hiking up prices 25% that they have to be delivering a top tier world class line up. If it stayed this high for 2023 then you will expect a lot of people to just wait til January, right?

Theyve been thinking about going back to one weekend. But covid hit and its prolonging that choice. They can milk it for a couple extra years before the writing is on the wall even moreso than it was in 2019.

Coachella has had trouble selling out W2 for multiple years now and they keep increasing tix supply and prices
They even end up giving away lots of tix
Ya I think my point whenever this argument comes up os that they clearly don’t care that they sell fewer tickets for Weekend 2. They still sell a lot of tickets that cost a lot of money.
Sure they sell a lot, but if the tix were $50-75 off, or if they gave people credit to use on food/merch, I would feel like it’s an inventive
Say they did
120k tix at $450-475 instead of 100k tix at $525, they would make more money

I think tiered pricing is here to stay and once prices for something go up, they rarely go back down so these are probably our new prices until they go up again in a few years.

Let’s be honest if an extra $75 for the cost of a weekend experience is making you pause then you shouldn’t be going in the first place. Both weekends of Coachella do not need to sell out for Goldenvoice to make money. I assume they just have to sell around 80k worth of tickets W2 to make it worth their while. After all it wasn’t long ago that they were only selling 100k worth of tickets both weekends.
Looks like there's still W1 available on FesTicket.
As for the whole W1 vs. W2 thing, I'm waiting for somebody - maybe headliner, maybe second line - to completely change up their set from one weekend to the next to claim all that available media oxygen. When does someone save album release/debut for W2?

if they really wanted to do this, the better route is taking their extra supply of tickets and putting them on stubhub and not hurting the brand with lower ticket prices

It’s not about me, I’m fine from a financial perspective
But there are people who do budget strictly who maybe care enough
And it’s still nice to get a discount or credit
GV still makes a ton of money W2, but why not make more?
I would bet they could sell more W2 tix if there was an incentive
W1 will continue to sell out because of the hype and media attendees
My allergies won't allow me to try weekend 2 ever again Overall I enjoy weekend 1 better, the only thing I like about weekend 2 more is that the sets are ran cleaner. Less late sets/sets being cut short because the artist was out late. (Especially 2019 with Billie and H.E.R. those two late sets messed up my plans)
Couchella weekend 1 with a few nice beverages and then attending weekend 2 is legitimately the best thing ever. Coachella basically becomes a 12 day event from the time the set times/map is released to the end of Day 3 weekend 2
That said I’m doing Weekend 1 this year for my friends first time.

for 2019 Ice Cube did the whole NWA reunion for weekend 2 and I'm pretty sure all the guests were different weekend 1.

couchella is definitely another reason I have come to really enjoy going weekend 2!

Is putting out a statement that "passes are no longer available" really just to save face about not selling out immediately? Feel like its pretty noticeable that they have plenty of passes available for Weekend 2 still.

Weekend 2 passes have been available a lot longer than this in the past.

Totally possible, but the past few years they kept it open for an extended period before saying they weren’t available. Today was a little over 4 hours so I assume it’s mostly gone.
Services like AMEX may have extras in which they essentially buy from Goldenvoice, but give back if they can’t sell before the regular sale. But the extras they keep are just a service to offer their clients.

Even the Amex links are showing sold out for both weekends. I bought my 2020 passes using the Amex link in November 2019, so it's safe to say the demand is definitely higher this year
