you people are even dumber than i thought if you seriously think either Lorde or Dua Lipa is subbing this thing
maybe one of them headlines when Frank inevitably drops out, but that's it
of course, the dream would be ditching the Travis Scott snoozefest and replacing him with a female headliner, but alas
Who says its not possible. Paul T was quick to kick MCR to the curb and paid them for the trouble to have Rage back. Im sure he would do the same to Travis in favor of Adele or Taylor.
I think it might've favored her if Coachella 2020 had happened and it was a clean slate right now. Now you have a 2 year backlog of potential headliners. So its either try to fit them in now or let them wait their turn. Although Timberlake waited and was never heard from again.
im not sold on Lorde as a US festival headliner tbh
Gotta see how the new album does
maybe, but the last album did incredibly, and her tour had Run the Jewels and Mitski as openers, and it didn't do that well. Lorde makes incredible music, but an act like Lizzo is significantly more popular than Lorde in the US

I wouldn’t say that album did incredibly. Nothing on it had anywhere near the success of Royals and iirc it only got fairly positive critical reception. Not a flop by any means but not the album that launched her to HLer.

That album killed critically, was in the top five on a ton of the end of year lists. Was a #1 seed for the album of the year tournament on here too

Yeah looked up the P4k review after I said that. Regardless, in terms of popularity, I don’t think it was the follow up to Pure Heroine that she needed

The album was a critical hit but wasn't a huge seller and only produced a fairly modest hit in Green Light.
I guess what I’m more saying is the fact that it’s Lorde isn’t the problem. If she’s release When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? her career trajectory would look different
Does the Greek show take Brockhampton out of the running
Its a weird spot. GV promoting it and the tour ends April 13 in Portland. I mean you can argue its their localchella show and likely sells out anyway so they just put it out there now and there is no concern.

i dont really know what this is supposed to mean, quite frankly

She did, just the 2013 version of that. It just didnt stick like the other album did. Go back to all the hype behind it and Lorde was being hailed as the goth queen and all the other things Billie has been tagged with. . 6 years later it was the same thing all over again except the music industry got what they were looking for and then some. This stuff cycles every 5 years or so and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt.

It was in reference to someone Lorde is not a headliner in America. I was just saying that the problem isn’t that Lorde can’t have a boost in her career like that or that her music is too European for American audiences like a Foals is, the problem is that her last album kinda just kept her at the same level she was at in terms of popularity. I brought up the Billie album because I think if Lorde released it, it would have done wonders for her career

Dua is in that fringe spot to where she IS big enough to headline but not so big to where she absolutely could not sub at a fest like Coachella. The HL on her day would just have to be clearly bigger than her for it to make sense.
Lorde is a HL in America but not at Coachella unless the new album has crazy reception.
Adele/Rihanna/Taylor should be the targets if Travis were to be kicked
I think people really dont realize how big Future Nostalgia was. Its just as big as Billie's debut, and no one would question her headlining this festival

I think everyone knows how big of an album it was, but does Dua Lipa have enough material to even warrant a 1.5 hour headlining set? Yes, she has another album, but her old stuff is relatively unknown in the States. When I saw her in 2017 she opened the stage at Gov Ball and nobody showed up.
Unless she has a huge ego, I’m pretty sure if the money is right she and her team aren’t going to balk at the opportunity to sub at Coachella. Get the hype and press from the festival and then announce a US arena tour.

Well the bigger thing was that GV tried to get her for 2020 but who knows what happened and she wasnt on the poster. The album came out a week before weekend 1 which is the norm for a highly billed/hyped artist thats gonna play. So getting top 3 on the second line was too low or something already? And now its going to potentially end up that she will only ever have played Coachella as a headliner. There arent many acts that end up in that position aside from big reunions.

Yeah, lets ignore the part where New Rules and IDGAF were on pop radio ALL THE FUCKING TIME and one of those songs was the most streamed songs for the year. She can hold up for a headline set. She was already going to plan an arena tour anyway. And she has been getting better and better with each big tv performances and such. You can see the difference made from 4 years ago to now.

Yeah she pretty easily has enough material. All of future nostalgia, the three or four other big singles shes done, something from Club Future Nostalgia and two guests. theres 1.5 hours easily

Future Nostalgia is certified platinum but Billie's debut is certified 4x platinum. Future Nostalgia is a big album but I wouldn't say just as big.
