I think Dua is more of a first sub but could be a headliner . Hard to tell since we don’t have any future nostalgia tour dates for the US. For what it’s worth she was selling out 7-10k capacity venues on her debut album here . I would assume she moves up to arenas in big cities state side .
Yeah she pretty easily has enough material. All of future nostalgia, the three or four other big singles shes done, something from Club Future Nostalgia and two guests. theres 1.5 hours easily
I think what might be happening here is that it's easy to slot in Dua as a sub because the current three headliners are Rage, Travis, and Frank Ocean. They would probably each respectively be the biggest headliners of any US festival in 2021, especially assuming that Travis is dropping an album alongside his Coachella performance. So she's perhaps not as big as those three. But she's not a four, she's just a headliner some other year or in a universe where 2020-22 Coachella doesn't have such a massive top three.
And album sales. and singles. Frank definitely benefits from being "rare." We really don't have an idea of what Frank's draw is when it comes to ticket sales since he only plays festivals. If they both had 30 date US arena tours in the next year I think Dua would probably outsell Frank.
Edit: Blonde sold better than I realized but I still think this is true.

I get the gut feeling that in America Dua Lipa’s songs are more popular than her, like her name/face recognition doesn’t match the success of her hits. If I wasn’t on inforoo and just heard her music out and about I would think it’s pop EDM with any singer on it. Like I bet the average person can’t name Dua Lipa songs but they know them by heart.
huge Frank fan but this isn't a hot take in the least bit. Dua is massive, her team did as well as anyone during the quarantine and her performances have been generating significant buzz.
also, as someone who listens to pop radio more than i would like, Dua is played seemingly as much as Ariana Grande, which is frequent.

I knew Dua Lipa songs without knowing who Dua Lipa was until 2019 so yeah this is probably true. Her early collabs I just thought "oh insert random pop singer into this poppy edm song" especially since that was a big thing in that era.
Even if Dua and Lorde are roughly equal in stature, getting Dua Lipa on the ascent before her first US tour post Future Nostalgia feels like a much bigger get than getting Lorde who lost momentum with her last album, and played the festival not that long ago.
And, she may only have one really big album, but there have been a lot of successful singles spun off of it, whereas Lorde has two old hits and maybe "Green Light."
I think people really dont realize how big Future Nostalgia was. Its just as big as Billie's debut, and no one would question her headlining this festival
Look, I LOVED Future Nostalgia, I'd take Dua over Billie any day of the week, but it was simply not as big as Billie's debut. And in terms of online interest, Dua Lipa has not once been more popular in the States than Billie over the last 12 months; for the most part she hasn't been that close: trends.google.com/trends/explore?geo=US&q=%2Fg%2F11bxfyskcg,%2Fg%2F11c75ypgws (go back more than 12 months and the gap only widens).
Dua's a borderline headliner, but she's definitely not a surefire headliner. She's a bit more popular here than Lana Del Rey, but not nearly as popular as Billie.

Any chance they pull Kylie Minogue for 2022? There was talk about her booking some US fests after the success of her Glasto performance but then covid happened as she released Disco.

Hahahha, they would never shove somebody like Kylie Minogue into the Mojave. Outdoor or Main for sure. Maybe Sahara because they had Blackpink and it went well. And its hard to call the Sahara a tent anymore as it is.

Even if she plays all of FN, it's 37 minutes long. Idk about easily 1.5 hours.
I guess what I’m more saying is the fact that it’s Lorde isn’t the problem. If she’s release When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? her career trajectory would look different
She did, just the 2013 version of that. It just didnt stick like the other album did. Go back to all the hype behind it and Lorde was being hailed as the goth queen and all the other things Billie has been tagged with. . 6 years later it was the same thing all over again except the music industry got what they were looking for and then some. This stuff cycles every 5 years or so and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt.
8/9 years ago, it was impossible for someone to headline with just one or two albums. How many times have y'all argued about this unspoken rule of having to have a certain amount of albums. Now, so many years later, that isnt so much the case anymore for a lot of festivals. I saw someone mention Olivia Rodrigo as a potential Bonnaroo headliner. Anything can happen nowadays. But don't like the festival biss was the same as it is now and if the hype around her was bigger, she could've. Nonsense.
Can’t be a Coachella thread literally any thread on inforoo without arguing if an artist is headliner worthy.
To be fair, I don't see people comparing the Spotify streaming numbers or platinum status of Lolla or ACL headliners. Those are to be expected. Instead, everyone compares any potential headliner to the Beyonce, Frank Oceans, Rage, etc.

For Coachella 2022, I will need to leave the Monday after. I've flown in and out of LAX for Coachella before, but never needed to be back until later in the week.
I hear the drive back to LAX on Mondays is hellish. I was wondering if anyone had driven back to McCarran airport in Las Vegas on the Monday after Coachella. I am probably starting my journey from there as I would like to spend some time in Zion National Park before picking up my friend for the festival on Thursday.
Any insights would be appreciated!
Another option would be flying out of San Diego, but a one-way rental car is much more expensive than returning one to the same airport.
The drive back monday is bad if you dont leave early in the morning. If you leave the area mid day youre gonna hit some bad traffic from Palm Springs to Beaumont at least and lose a good hour just because of that. But the thing is if you wanna go to vegas its still gonna mean you have to get through all that anyway. You could use the LAX to Coachella shutte and save yourself the stress of being the one that has to drive in the traffic.

We're staying in Banning so not too far from Beaumont. Hoping to leave around 8 am if that information helps.

What type of late night campground activities does Coachella offer now? Were there any late night stages or hang out areas in the campground after the festival sets end?
