Rather get Sade at Smokin' Grooves if they bring it back. D'Angelo would be amazing too, just doubt it ever happens. They could bring Solange back, but I'm having my hopes high for Hiatus Kaiyote
So you want Timberlake and Kanye? And they didnt move Ariana’s La dates for Coachella. They just moved the mid west ones which overlapped. She played in L.A as normally scheduled in early May. If they had to book Billie or Bad Bunny there is nothing to shuffle cause there is zero overlap and theyre way sold out.
Ah right, but I moreso meant: Has a headliner for Coachella in the past decade, played Arena/Stadium shows in Southern California before Coachella? I may be mistaken but I can't think of any. I assume they'd have to push their LA dates back to after Coachella. (Also I'd be ecstatic with Kanye, wouldn't be mad at JT, but I'm rooting for Adele all the way)
A large scale White Stripes reunion makes no sense. And really makes no sense at Coachella.
If they ever do it, I just imagine Jack and Meg playing some dive bar in Detroit or Nashville for like 8 drunks to scratch the itch and that's the extent of it.

I know the word now is that a lot of the lineup is coming back, specifically the top line but with the news of Frank not returning, I went back and compared the 2020 Stagecoach lineup to the just-announced 2022 lineup. There are 34 new artists (including 1 new headliner) which means only approximately 1/3 of the 2020 lineup returned. I realize Stagecoach consists mostly of just country and has a much smaller lineup but that's still a lot more turnover than I would've guessed. The highest I would've predicted is 1/2 coming back. Of course some of the 2020 Stagecoach acts outgrew their billing like Morgan Wallen but several 2020 Coachella artists have gotten bigger too like DaBaby, Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, Lil Nas X, Roddy Ricch, Black Pumas and others. It's obvious not everybody is coming back but looking back at this, I guess I wouldn't be shocked if artists returning end up being less than we expected, including some that we thought were sure bets.
Can someone ask the old lady from Egypt what she thinks of Lana Del Rey headlining Coachella so we can know whether the festival has redeemed its reputation as a laughingstock worldwide
To be fair, the people expecting Frank will hate anything that isn't Frank.
Getting CFG 2019 flashbacks. Drake still hasn’t fully recovered.
It's Coachella, not Flog.. which is a demographic who's foundation is literally built on Odd Future artists. So it wouldn't be that bad, as long as the replacement was high caliber. If it's simply Lana getting the boost, that would be super dry unless it's a coheadliner situation.
Sade is huge with Gen Z, and would be a good replacement for Frank in terms of vibe. Plus, she's somebody who hasn't done much for 10 years, the entire time most Coachella goers would be familiar with her work, so it would be a real revelation.
Of older bands, Fleetwood Mac definitely feels like the one that has the biggest impact with the Coachella demo, and the inevitable Lindsay reunion gives it a newsworthy hook.
Seems like Billie's new album is not really popping so far, and it will be 9 months old and thoroughly toured by the time we hit Coachella. Seems unlikely she's there.
Taylor Swift makes a ton of sense, doing the first Folklore shows, and she'd be a great compliment to the two existing acts, and get the fest a ton of press/buzz.

Sade is "huge" with Gen Z? Based on what?
Also Billie's new album hasn't even come out yet but the first two singles she released from it have like a combined 250,000,000 streams on spotify already, so weird to say her album "isn't popping so far". She's not playing Coachella this year but it's not because of anything other than the fact that she's playing a bunch of spring shows in LA which are promoted by AEG's biggest rival.

Kendrick is the most likely option to me as well.
Bumping Lana up is the least exciting option. I’m not expecting it but keeping it in my head as a sort of worst case scenario.
Rihanna is my reach scenario. Also don’t really think this will happen but she seems more plausible than Fleetwood or White Stripes or a bunch of the other things being tossed around.

Ariana Grande's situation from 2019 makes me more convinced they book someone like Billie or Bad Bunny who will be touring around and near Coachella with a show ready to go. Grande replaced Kanye and had a Live Nation-backed tour with LA dates originally following Coachella.

That was a last minute decision. That doesn’t happen if Kanye drops out in July

I imagine Coachella would’ve been happy with Grande no matter the timing. It’s not like they can will a White Stripes reunion into existence if a headliner drops out.
I think My Chemical Romance moving all of their shows, including outdoor shows, back a year makes a lot more sense if you believe that they are now headlining Coachella in April. Would be a massive bummer though

Coachella has way more time this time around so they don’t necessarily have to settle for Billie or Bad Bunny just for being nearby and available.
I also don’t see them just giving someone like lana or Doja who were on the 2020 lineup a bump after losing their rarest booking of that year.
I’m not saying they have to match Frank Ocean because let’s be honest that’s pretty hard, but bumping a sub would feel like such a cop out idk.
Kendrick seems the most likely, and if he’s debuting a new album around the same time then that should be newsworthy enough.
Kendrick was prepared to launch his next album at BST last summer from how it seemed and he’s been quiet ever since. I don’t think a bill with Frank is all that much different from a bill with Kendrick even though one is more rare they are both coveted.
Foz, wanna put $50 on it? You can have Billie and Bad Bunny vs the field
$50 for my two picks versus literally anyone else? I’m down if you submit two choices.
You’re the one who is completely confident it’s one of those two. How about this, if you’re right, I’ll give you $50, if you’re wrong I’ll pay you $25.
