I would honestly say people I talk to more often than not give pop artists less credit than they deserve. Go to the comments on a live video of an artist and all of them are “x artist is better than everyone else because they don’t use autotune or need ghost writers. They just have natural talent”. Like, I think the expectation is that if an artist is a superstar there is boosted support a la ghost writing, marketing, etc
I think people assume most pop stars don't write their own stuff.. strong majority don't. I think people get more pretentious about it with hip-hop and rock.

Well, I think the issue is people assume *every* pop star doesn’t write *any* of their own music. And that’s definitely not true. There’s a whole range from “here, sing this” to people who do it all themselves. The vast majority of artists are somewhere on a sliding scale in the middle, collaborating with other songwriters, to a greater or lesser extent depending on the artist in question.
anytime the old "industry plant" line gets trotted out around here it's inevitably the absolute dumbest posters pushing it
the industry plant line pretty much only gets labeled on young women, specifically attractive ones, and it really just comes off like people are jealous

When I was 13 or so I got pretentious about Aerosmith not writing “I Don’t Wanna Close My Eyes” and I laugh at my stupid young self now.

This is interesting because in hip hop (male dominated) it’s always on males and it’s usually right. ASAP Rocky, Rich the Kid, etc. they still get fame but it’s easy to tell who a label decides to get all the looks and features for a 6 month time period.

Obviously the likely scenario is Frank just didn’t want to play anymore and Sade isn’t booked…. But if Sade suddenly became available and you had to make room for her to headline it would make some sense to drop Frank to make your top line more balanced. Just daydreaming here.
