Glad to see so much Arcade Fire appreciation going on here. Their 2014 Weekend 1 show is still one of my top concerts and moved me to tears.
the surprise aspect plus unique location and brand new music put it in a rare echelon of show for me. I don’t know how it could be topped this weekend. But who knows! The beauty of chella!
So yeah, I assume most people here were gonna see Hot Chip anyway, but just in case, I was at their show last night and want to let you know that you should see fucking Hot Chip tonight. Doesn't matter if you haven't listened to any of their material in the last decade, they sound so good right now.
I’ll be at their Boston show, opting for DJ Koze and Stromae instead tn
So great to be back!! Definitely had some hiccups Day 1 but nothing that can’t be fixed. Shuttle was pretty smooth (despite the first one leaving at 12:30.) Lots of water refill stations were off and several vendors weren’t selling water. They’ll probably have this sorted out for W2 but early Friday felt a bit nerve wracking cause it was hard to stay hydrated during the hottest parts of the day. More lighting is needed on the fields, especially in the new Yuma corner. I’m convinced that part of the clusterf*ck is just that people legitimately don’t know where to go to get in. I got there 20mins before Peggy Gou and it just turned into a huge mass of people doing whatever they could to get closer. (I gave up, never got in.) My Day 1 Highlights:
Arooj Aftab was a perfect opener. So sultry and her instrumentalists were just jammin out. Did some research on the shuttle ride in and she won both an Emmy and Grammy?!? Truly felt privileged that Coachella booked her.
Caught bits and pieces of MIKA and The Hu while exploring the grounds. Was underwhelmed by MIKA but The Hu was hypnotically good.
Caught Ari Lennox from the beer garden between Main/Outdoor so I didn’t “see” her but she sounded amazing. Definitely don’t miss if you’re a fan, she really set the vibe and was great with the crowd.
Anitta takes my vote for the BLACKPINK “international act trynna make a splash in the US” slot. You could tell she really took this set seriously and tried to go all out in showcasing her talent. She had moveable set pieces, awesome energetic visuals, and a huge dance troupe. If you don’t know her music but just wanna check it out for a bit, go for the first half and skip the second. (The second half was mostly dancing and less singing cause Diplo randomly showed up and DJed.)
Tried to get into Yuma early for Peggy and that was an absolute shitshow. At one point multiple groups of people were just separating the barricades and cutting the line whenever they could.
Dipped from that and went to Black Coffee. Super bass heavy set and lots of room to dance. Took a quick visit over to the Avalanches and for whatever reason their set wasn’t doing it for me so I went over to Baby Keem.
For any rap fans out there: don’t miss Baby Keem into Big Sean. Baby Keem was fantastic, sounded just like he does on studio recordings and had great stage presence. Big Sean was PHENOMENAL. You could tell this set was super important to him and he really proved how talented he is. The visuals were a welcome surprise, super elaborate and really showed off this year’s Sahara setup. Plus his set turned into a huge singalong several times. A highlight was everyone yelling “I DONT F*CK WITH YOU” at the top of their lungs.
I finished out my night with one last lap around the fields. Caught a few songs of Harry and he honestly felt like he was “undersinging:” just not hitting many high notes and even sang a slightly more conservative vocal arrangement for Adore You and Lights Up. Wasn’t impressed. Tried to go to Lane 8 and dipped before he started since he was late. Finished the night with a bit of Slander and heard Shania Twain as I was walking to shuttles.
Can someone ask the old lady from Egypt what she thinks of Lana Del Rey headlining Coachella so we can know whether the festival has redeemed its reputation as a laughingstock worldwide
Ok I was trying to be polite to the Harry fans by just saying I didn’t like but if that’s how it’s going to be taken anyway, fine: that shit sucked. Sorry everyone!
unsure if you’re joking or not but this was not in reference to you lmao
i was referring to some egghead that popped in to talk shit
Pretty sure you’re referring to me. Sorry his music does nothing for me. I was legitimately trying to understand his popularity in general and especially on this board, but if you’re going to be a cunt about it like the majority of his fanbase, then I need no explanation. Have fun listening to doctors office Justin Timberlake.

Some thoughts after missing this last few years…
It was so much more difficult getting around this year compared to the last time I was here in 2017. It felt like I ran into a wall everywhere I tried to go.
VIP is 100% not worth it if you are paying full price. Heard a lot of ladies bitching to their partners about the VIP sections not making them feel very important.
Yuma is a complete disaster and honestly not even worth trying to get inside of. VIP didn’t help.
Mika was good, Carly was great, Arcade Fire is just the best. Black Coffee in the Sahara sucked. Not the right place for him.
Probably my least favorite day of Coachella I’ve been to and I still had a blast. What a fucking festival.
Might as well give some thoughts to yesterday while waiting for merch.
I agree on lots of logistic points. The yuma thing sounds horrible and dont even know if its worth it unless i walked in at noon to take a pick of the disco shark. The missing water carts in the middle of the main field is a bad move. Lots of other stalls ran out and then the water stations were fucked. Not announcing cashless was whack. I went to the bank this morning to re deposit a few hundred bucks so it wasnt sitting in the hote room. And theyre getting the tax on it too now. I kind of expected yesterday to have issues. Their fridays have some little things but it just feels magnified this year causw you can argue they had 2 years to plan it perfectly and werent throwing it together. Production and sound still top notch. Obviously everything is more pricey but it feels insulting to get a slice of pizza for $11 when you can order a large dominos for $8 if you felt like it. And more on the water, not allowing just regular plastic bottles that were empty inside is plan stupid. I get they want you to buy some inside but gimme a break. Security was a breeze at least. I dont know what happen with parking cause it was like being back in 2006 or something. Still an incredible day and its still surreal to be here after so long. And of course the nft thing was a bunch of shit too. Although they let people who had priority into the boutique? Still havent even walked into the sahara.
The grass is holding up ok. I think some green spots will survive to week 2. Front of main stage is gone already.

Really bummed they overlap so much with Stromae. I’m not missing a second of his set.

I’ve never used VIP for the viewing sections. it’s only worth it for the entrance, the rose garden, and the area by the main stage
Does anyone have info about Emo Nite? Kinda not down for Plain White Ts. I’m hoping for something more substantial since I’m trying to catch all of Rina close.
I heard that SG Lewis is at doLab tonight. Can anyone confirm?
Disappointed to hear of all the Yuma struggles. PDM is a top 5 set for me and I'm planning on skipping Mika and the Hu (and prob Arooj Aftab) for him. I damn better get in lol.

I was able to get into the Yuma with no line for Logic1000 around 2:20ish. if you go in around then you should be fine
