Any guesses for the last weekday announcements? I could see bringing Valerie June or Amythyst Kiah in. Brittany Howard and Black Pumas are playing Lollapalooza so maybe they are possibilities. I'm not expecting any of them, but I would love for any of them to join in on the fun.
Rhiannon Giddens is Demeanor (Justin Harrington) aunt.
He actually raps on one of her songs. I remember seeing him with her rapping for one of her songs at Jazz fest, when she last played.
That is great. Really hoping she might be there. [UPDATED] She posted to twitter that she is going to Italy for vacation on the 19th. Unlikely she would be at NFF
Any guesses on the Allison Russell set? Mavis will almost definitely be involved, any other guesses?
Also, side note: If anyone has/knows of a hotel or airbnb that they aren't using anymore, please let me know- thanks!
Sorry if this has been said and I missed it but with the Avetts Sunday rumor I just thought it was interesting this is billed as Once & Future Sounds (Once and Future Carpenter). Might be nothing. And I don't know a lot of Allison Russell's music so maybe it's a reference to one of her songs instead. Would love (like I'm sure a lot on here) this to be the Prine tribute set.
Final prediction for the 4 remaining weekday sets:
Phoebe Bridgers and Friends (headliner), Bleachers, Jeff Tweedy, and Jackson Browne
God I wish, that would be incredible. I'd be absolutely floored if its anything close to this, though. I think it'll be Brandi and Bleachers and that's it.

Yes, your guess is more realistic. And probably a second Lake Street Dive set courtesy of Rachael and Vilray.
But I can’t bring myself to ignore Tweedy in the Northeast; that can’t be a coincidence. The more I think about it I also can’t believe that the weekday fest doesn’t have a throwback folk artist like the weekend has Randy (I mean, it’s possible Mavis is there to pop out throughout the week. Or James Taylor.)

Eh, Tweedy played his last solo show a full week before the weekday event kicks off, I don't know if he's just hanging around. Plus, Wilco start their tour in less than two weeks, so I have to assume that they'll be getting ready for that.
Beautiful weather and the humidity is gone today. I remember them saying a while back that there will be plenty of surprises in addition to the self announcements. I'm expecting it to be fun and unique festival. I'll be shocked if there isn't a tribute to John in some form. Jay confirmed that this year is a one off and next year will be more normal festival. Can't wait for more intimate sets this year. Great to have the festival come back to life.

That reminded me that in 2019, my husband and I were sipping beer on the pier when a boat pulled in. We were like, look at these rich bastards. Turned it, it was James Taylor and Sheryl Crow! When they left, we all waved at them and they waved back.
"Allison Russell will bring together BIPOC/LGTBQIA+/Ally visionaries for a landmark collaboration with a mission of placing Black Womxn and active Allies at the center of the most prominent headlining set at Newport Folk Festival on Sunday Julyy 25th. Allison has chosen these artists because thier vision, presence and oeuvre is a fulfillment and expansion of the promise of the foundational folk mother Odetta and the anti-bigotry origin (and Herstory) of Newport. Feet deep in the good earth, hands swaying the galaxies, Equal under the listening sky... we are more than seeds. We're the soil and the water. The Good Ancestors. Once and Future Sounds. Branches Roots Revolution. Its Our time to rise. - AR"
This lineup is so disproportionately benefiting the weekdays. Gonna need A LOT of surprises during the weekend to keep up. I know “In Jay We Trust” but it’s hard not to be disappointed as a weekend person.

I'm sure it'll be good but would prefer some other names as headliners. Never got that into Black Crowes...not because they're bad or anything. Just never hooked me and I felt I missed out on them.
That came out of left field. Although, I’m not really into Black Crowes so doesn’t do much for me. But glad it’s at least an act I haven’t seen several times at Newport over the years.
How would they close the Quad on Saturday if Andrew Bird is already in that spot?
My bad, I totally meant Tuesday. The saturday of the weekdays
EDIT: and I guess they have to be Monday
to be fair i suppose they could play Tuesday if it was the Quad, but they play Sunday in Hartford and Wednesday in Pittsburgh so Monday seems the best bet.

If Monday, I hope they overlap with Ben Gibbard or Middle Brother, and not that those two overlap leading into Brothers of a Feather. Also, would totally prefer Night Sweats or Brandi headliner over BoF. (Nothing against BoF, just preferences)

I could see BoF overlapping with either, I think that would be smart counterprogramming.
