Prop: If you come into a Maf thread mid game unannounced and post something, you’re required to sign up for next game.
That’ll teach me to scroll through “recent posts.” I literally have no idea what I’m doing. The posts/strategy seem pretty intense. But if you really need me, I will give it shot.

It’s not too bad, this game had an abnormal amount of strategy talks because we just added a new role. Plus you can pretty much ask anything in game and get an answer
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
What happens with the preliminary vote and then subsequently locking in? That part confused me.
When am I allowed to discuss strategy via private message, rather than on the board?
1) votes are rarely locked in the first round or two of a day—and locking is mostly just used to speed things up only IF AND WHEN you feel confident in proceeding forward with your vote, and won’t want to potentially switch it again. You *can* change a vote after locking it but the idea is that when majority locks, the day ends right then—so you don’t want to do it if not sure about proceeding. Without the use of locking, rounds just end at the deadline time that the ref has set.
2) as of now, our rules state that you cannot as a townsperson talk with fellow players—only the mafia get to talk in private chat about strategy. You can check in with the ref at any time but for logistical things, not to discuss strategy. We have an idea of trying a game where any and everyone CAN discuss with one another in private message but as rules stands now, you cannot. It is a rather severe offense actually (unless BOTH players are dead, then you can talk Willy nilly so long as it stays between y’all/in the Dead Thread)

otter no problem! Any other Qs that you wanna ask before we begin? Either about explicit rules or more nuanced pieces of the game like strategy
What is the inspector’s role?
I don’t think I’m ready for nuance.
the job is to help town get mafia
with your given name you can give clues to town as to who that is
or you can try to hide it out and not give clues to mafia so they don't kill you
the nuance/skill to it is trying to give as much and not to die or give yourself away
there's some ease of pressure in that, it's not all in your control, and that even if you nail it sometimes it still doesn't work, and sometimes if you blow it town still pulls through
I might be ready to (try to) play now. I’ve familiarized myself a bit with the previous round and it is making some sense.
and if you get mafia there's a chat thread where y'all can all talk and they can help you out there. inspector is solo which is super fun and terrifying
Got ya. Didn’t realize inspector is privy to who mafia was off the bat. Good to know. Thanks.
Inspector is given one of the three mafia as their “given name” from the ref , prior to the game even starting. You do NOT want to relay your given name d1 unless you’re right about to be exiled (Town does have an unfortunate habit of getting our inspector in the exile position d1 tho, sadly).
After that, each Night the inspector gets to guess at another name—which the ref confirms as town or Maf, unless they’re whacked that same Night in which case they don’t get to learn the info bc, well, they’re dead.
Typically inspectors reveal d3 if still alive then or d2 if they’ve gotten their night 1 guess right OR if they feel super shaky on the idea that they’ll make it to the next day without being whacked (e.g. they get the impression the Maf are eyeing them as the inspector)

“Reveal” means publicly declare they’re the inspector and what their guesses are/who their given mafia is, right? I assume others can also falsely reveal as a counter.
