I WILL GO TO ANY FESTIVAL THAT WILL FINALLY GIVE ME GLASS ANIMALS GODDAMMIT
i mean they literally play in your state in two days
Yes I know, and it's at a venue that has zero soul and will be surrounded by Chads. I've been stripped of the chance to see them at a festival three times now, and I'm determined to make my first time in a setting where I will truly enjoy the experience.
I realize this is me being stubborn but it is what it is.
I WILL GO TO ANY FESTIVAL THAT WILL FINALLY GIVE ME GLASS ANIMALS GODDAMMIT
Are they a hard act to find at festivals? I feel like Covid and Ida are the only real barriers to you achieving your dreams so next festival season you should be golden.

i think it's funny that you think a Glass Animals show at a music festival won't be full of "chads", like who do you think goes to music festivals

they're playing a festival in like two weeks, and another a couple weeks after that
I can’t imagine wanting Lizzo over Drake. If they’re going to get a cornball headliner I’d much rather have the one with 100 hits instead of the one with 3
Drake loses points for me for his creepiness. Also there’s not a single Drake song I’d care to hear live

Float Fest 2018 was supposed to be my first show. It was canceled because the drummer was in that horrible accident a couple weeks before. Then Roo 2020, then Roo 2021...
I'm very sure there will be a festival with their name on it, but I'm not going to drop a bunch of a cash if the rest of the lineup sucks. Crossing my fingers!

I guess I do a really great job at hanging out with people who don't suck? In my experience, camping festivals bring in the best kind of folks. Sorry about your luck.

i just think you have a misunderstanding of who goes to festivals in the Year of Our Lord 2021, this isn't 2005

Mmmmmk yes, go ahead and link me to your peer-reviewed sources of how many Chads are attending which festival. Apparently I'm fucking stellar at avoiding them.
lol i get it, but you're telling me the vibe of a single day show in a random city is better than a whole weekend at a camping festival? come onnnnnn
bonnaroo done changed since you last went in 2009 is all im saying
Oh I'm very sure of that. One of the only reasons I was going had to do with Glass Animals, Tool, Rezz, Billy Strings, and a couple others. Obviously many of those didn't make it to the second round to begin with, but I wanted a camping festival in my life and I was still good with what we were getting. I doubt I make it in 2022 unless the lineup is exactly my taste. I've come to really love the fests with smaller attendance, but in the end a stellar lineup will always win.
I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a band that played a better set at a festival. I pretty much always prefer to see bands at their own shows. Unless it’s something that’s only happening at the festival.

It depends on how big the production is. There are definitely smaller bands who will have bigger and better productions at festivals because they have access to bigger and better lighting, speakers, etc. If Glass Animals were playing Dallas in a place like the Bomb Factory which is an indoor show in the city proper, I'm down. But they're playing at Toyota Center in a city that's a solid 20-30min drive from Dallas. IDK, just isn't the same vibe, and it won't be the same kind of crowd. I'm spoiled, I admit it, but I've had a lot of years of experience to know how to tailor my experience.

You just don’t appreciate the inherent integrity of a Glass Animals festival set

Fair enough. Guessing the last decade of popular music must have been tough for you though lol

generally i agree. however there are rare situations where seeing certain bands at certain festivals in certain timeslots on certain stages could be more special than a stand alone show. bonnaroo late night slots as an example. sure these days it's probably just an artist playing the same setlist they were going to play anyway, just later at night, but sometimes it actually can be special, i.e. I know we were all stoked for MMJ or Goose late night this year.
seeing bands at jazzfest can be cool. arcade fire brought out cindi lauper the first time they played there. they next time they played they closed the set doing a second line through the crowd all the way to the gospel stage (which is where they said we should all be anyway instead of watching them).
basically if an act can tap into what makes a festival special and play to that it can result in a unique experience. but this isn't a frequent occurrence, and most of the time if it's an act i really love i'd prefer to see them in a standard venue with better sound and a longer show.

yesssssss exactly, especially about the late night slots. i suppose a better way to say it would have been that all things being equal, i generally feel that the chance at seeing a one-off experience for any band is higher at a festival where they have less worry about city sound ordinances/being cut off, and are already surrounded by other artists who could possibly get involved. just my humble opinion.

That’s what I meant by something that’s only going to happen at a festival. Late nights can be special. Guests can be special. But usually there’s more things happening at fests that actually take away from the show. Tool at Bonnaroo was my least favorite Tool show. Same for Radiohead 12.. Same for Pearl Jam 16. Any time we’ve seen Avetts outside of roo has been way better. I’ve even skipped Clutch the last 2 times they played. The only one I can think of that might have been better was NIN late night but it was ln and they went beyond what they normally do.

If we're being fair, I think a lot of my idolization of festival sets is because A) I'm generally always in the best mood of my life, and with the exact group of people I prefer to see music with, not counting the thousands of others who add to the vibe, and B) I'm usually not willing to pay top dollar prices for a local show at a LN venue when I know I can hold out for the summer and see several in one weekend. Being a large metro city also gives me the leeway to see basically whoever I want when they tour.

I don’t really hate Drake’s music, it’s just fine radio music and nothing more to me. And his personality would turn me off from a show. I actually just remembered l saw him in like 2015 and it was all just a minute or less of each song. Totally forgot about that show
But yeah in my own listening I’ve mostly kept away from the trap and auto-tuned rapper/singer section of pop music. It’s rare that a song in that vibe grabs me in any significant way beyond just enjoying it somewhat while it’s on
