i think the surprise aspect of mafia attempting to kill someone and getting a reveal could be big, obviously in the 2 games we've used it,, the early reveal worked better, but short sample size/functions as good as the guesses.
I keep doing the math:
Dan - town Jaz - dead, so role doesn't matter oracle oracle name inspector inspector's given mafia inspector's n1 guess myself
At best that could give each regular townie roles of 8 people in this game. That's a huge number! Mathematically that allows the town to kill the oracle today to reveal their name, revealed inspector whacked at night, and we are left with 7 players D3 where we know the roles of the majority of the players and can whittle down guesses.
I'm not advocating for this necessarily and want to have holes poked in the plan again. And it's definitely stupid to play the same way every time (meaning we would have to tweak powers and stuff for the next game).
I'm thinking out loud here. But also on a work zoom so maybe missing things.
yeah it's a lot, i don't think it's a bad idea
but i could see situations where mafia tries to whack/exile someone they think is going to be a misdirect and it ends up being oracle with their name and that could be just as much of a game changer.

That's still valuable to us. Obviously you nailed it and it was almost the best possible outcome (only bettered by no overlap between oracle and inspector). But the oracle gives us info regardless.
I mean, sure, I just would never understand why mafia would do it.
on accident they could. iirc oracle was killed last game unintentionally, town just blew it
If T was revealed I imagine I couldve convinced him not to guess me. OR he wouldn't have been whacked because mafia was scared of his guess and then he wouldve been alive day 5

Day1- Townie exiled Night 1- Oracle whacked, role revealed Day 2- Inspector reveals given and n1 guess
Even if Oracle reveals townie and inspector reveals townie that's still 5 confirmed roles at the beginning of day 2. And then if either one of those guesses is mafia then that's nuts. Hell there's even a scenario where inspector and oracle reveal the 2 other mafia

Did a reread. Dan doesn't really feel like inspector from his posts, the whack feels more like an intended misdirect towards me since he talked about me more than anyone else, but none of that talk was because of any actual suspicion of me and more just bringing my name up

Day 1 Oracle is a very bad idea and I would hope whoever is oracle next doesn't do it. Earlier guesses are always going to be worse and at that point, you'd want the confirmed townie later in the game rather than sooner. There are people now we haven't even given a look at but by D3/D4, everyone has been examined. Also here's a very real possibility: mafia whacks oracle N1, assuming they don't have a good inspector guess, they get inspector N2, assuming a reveal, and then confirmed townie N3. and then town is at D4 with no confirmed townie or mafia from a late oracle guess.

I'm actually incredibly anti-misdirect. I think you take your best shot on inspector N1. I have never advocated for a misdirect and it's weird that you'd say this considering we've never been mafia together.

I think that the general consensus is, if mafia has any sort of leanings as to who might be inspector, they are going to whack that person n1. If they’ve got no idea (I’ve been in this position a couple times, where all three of us where like...”who fucking knows, so let’s just misdirect,” then sure a misdirection whack is next best option but it is basically never going to be first choice option for mafia n1
