seems like there isn't that much interest in this as it hasn't sold out yet
It's odd, because a lot of my wife's LA friends are all over this one and bought their tix last week...I'm in it just for the hell of it, but yeah it doesn't do much for me.

not that I'm expecting them to, but if they add a couple of big names from that era (such as LCD or Arcade Fire), this can sell out easily for both days

last time I checked all levels of VIP were still available, too. compared to Cruel World this is selling very slow and I'm doubtful they announce a sunday show unless they add a big name or 2. as it stands right now I wouldn't get passes for a second date anyways since I'll be able to see 90% of what I want on the first date.

If they got LCD or Arcade Fire that wouldve been on the poster to begin with. There is room to add names on the poster as its shy of what they had in 2019. I was surprised The Kills were not on the poster even though they got announced on the radio. The thing is there are probably a lot of acts who do not want to get placed into the “nostalgia” category already. So there would be some hesitancy as to getting booked just off that alone. Its sort of deceiving anyway since a lot of these acts still make music and arent just reappearing out if thin air. They get peppered onto festival posters all the time and its just a nice thing to see. And it now looks really strange because its all of them on one lineup.

Its not too surprising that this isn't selling out as quickly as the first iteration. A Top 4 of Phoenix, The YYY's, MGMT, and Beach House is pretty hard to compete with for the target audience of this festival and I don't think this years lineup has nearly the same wow factor at the top. Interpol and Modest Mouse in particular are just underwhelming bookings for Top 2 at least for me.
I was going to buy tickets anyways, but seeing the check out price well over $300 dollars for 2 single day tickets was just too much to justify. I don't think I want to see a 35 minute Bloc Party set THAT badly..

Definitely advantageous in this case to announce it 11 months out, but I'm starting to doubt this gets a second date like the last one did, especially since the other 2022 Goldenvoice genre festivals still sold out right away.
In addition to being less top-heavy (Phoenix and YYY's are both more popular than Interpol, and no one here is as rare as The Rapture), it's also less focused on a specific era of indie. Last time was almost all acts that peaked in hype in 2009 except probably Beach House (only because they got even bigger post-"Teen Dream"), while this is more of a shotgun splatter at the mid 2000's with a slightly older demographic.

Metric could work for this, but may turn their nose up at a throw back festival. 3 years since last California shows come May 2022. They did Fantasies cover to cover at a 2018 festival in Toronto, but the only advance notice was tweet or print interview 2 days before the show. I think the guitarist said in the past that they've turned down all other "album" themed tours and show offers.
Hard disagree on that one. Multi-genre festivals these days that try to serve fans of pop, hip-hop, rock, and dance almost always end up under-serving at least one of those cohorts, if not more than one. And as a fan of this sort of music who has seen it increasingly vanish from lineups over the years, I dunno - the chance to get it and only it at one event is pretty cool, by my lights.

completely agree. while I do love a good multi-genre festival because of the variety of what I can see it's usually over the course of 3 days and my favorites haven't been represented nearly as much as 7 or 8 years ago. these genre specific festivals are definitely filling a void for me personally and having most of them be single days or 2 days with the same lineups makes it even more convenient to scratch that itch.
honestly, in a perfect world I would prefer that acts from festivals like JLH and Cruel World were better represented on mainstream festivals and there wouldn't be a need for these genre specific single day festivals, but the times have changed and tastes are different than what they were when I started going to festivals.
throw in other festivals like Once Upon a Time in LA, and CFG, and so many other genre specific single day and multi day festivals consistently selling out and it's clear that there is enough demand to make them work.
it's either this or these acts wind up a county fairs haha.
Maybe its because the Butt Rock circuit exists? Did anyone have a problem with Warped Tour over the course of 25 years? Lots of festivals can barely last 3 years now before they price out people, have talent issues, or alienate the audience it was meant for.

Seems a bit off-brand for the guy championing the Save Our Stages Act to say “fuck genre festivals,” which I would think are a great place for lesser-known and rising artists to play prime spots and attract new fans.
Ya man, nothing like festivals that cater to olds who stopped listening to new music when they turned 28 to bring out the “real music fans”
We're talking about genre fests, not nostalgia fests.
What thread is this? The bands on this lineup have put out maybe and combined handful of albums worth a shit in the last decade. Which is fine, these bands are a fun and I’d go to this if I was in LA. But let’s cool it with the bullshit that going to these festivals means you’re superior to someone attending a multi-genre fest.

“If you go to a music festival with Billie Eilish headlining, you’re not a REAL music fan… at least not until you go to a festival with Morrissey headlining.”
i dont get why this needs to be announced so far in advance. it's targeting a demographic that has more money than time so decisions to attend will be made a month or so out.

My original post simply stated that genre fans can attract a type of crowd that cares specifically for that type of music, as opposed to the multi-genre majors that have a larger element of people just wanting to party and who don't really care about the lineup. At no point did I say anything about being superior, nor about the merits of this particular Just Like Heaven fest.

Because Goldenvoice isnt busting out all the big guns this year festival wise so they gotta make up money somehow. Layaway payments just sit in the bank and gain interest for almost a year before it needs to be redirected. Its not as if European festivals havent been doing it for years with announcing line ups at least 6 months in advance. Besides, May is a slight black hole post Coachella and the competition that month is EDC and Botlerock. Why not get a jump on those 2 fests regardless of audience crossover.
