Most nutso day of Riot Fest ever. Made a judgement call and skipped Algiers to get a snack which turned out to be dinner. Was able to get a great spot for Alkaline Trio and MCR from the side stage right after Cloud Nothings. Also caught Descendents, Jeff, Foxy, and Dunes. Not bad, but I sympathize for the first timers.

Good day yesterday. Descendents we’re the best thing I saw musically.
Bailed after as the lines for food were insane and got street meat outside the gates. My feet were killing me so we decided to beat the rush. I’ve never gone VIP here before but it definitely felt over crowded. The lines to get beer were non existent because the way it was laid out, the lines to the food backed up to the beer tent. Chalking it up to MCR but idk. If it’s like that today, VIP isn’t really worth it, imo.
Food in the GA had huge lines as well but I knew that going in. Definitely had to do more walking than not. Beer tickets are only used in one tent in the VIP area, apparently. Having someplace to sit other than the ground was nice. The bathrooms were awesome except the one stall that some dude popped the screw out of the handle so he could have a private stall. Fuck that dude. I saw someone get stuck in there because he shut the door behind him.
Mcr is absolutely iconic, everyone screaming along past the beer tents
Yeah amazing set. I wasn't even close and everyone around me was singing every song. Probably the best Riotfest headliner i've seen since The Replacements.

Yesterday was my first day at Riot so I have nothing to compare it to, but it definitely felt insanely packed and felt like an MCR focused crowd. Their show was maybe the biggest/most enthusiastic crowd I’ve ever seen at a festival headliner except maybe Paul at Roo 2013.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
I found out I can’t go to this anymore so I have 3 VIP tickets for sale that need to be picked up at will call but I can change the name. Dm me for more info, these are the 2021 prices from the presale. Would prefer if all are bought together.
So it turns out I actually am going to be able to go to this but need to fly back Sunday Morning to LA. If anyone wants VIP for Sunday below retail, DM me I have 3.
Leaving Chicago tomorrow morning and have 2 VIP wristbands I can slip off my hand still. If your interested dm me I’ll give them out way below retail.
Oh, and apparently bring a rain jacket for the evening.
The concern is lightning. If that happens then thatll be it.
Agreed. Hoping it lasts through YYY but we will see. It’s a gorgeous day right now tough. The IPA is flowing freely and Zola is in an outstanding mood.

Rode the center rail for Zola Jesus -> Lunachicks -> Poliça -> JEW -> SK -> YYYs -> NIN. What a bonkers run! On the hottest day of my 6 Riot Fests nonetheless. At the bar rehydrating before JEFF. Longest day of my life haha
SK -> YYYs -> NIN is the probably best festival run I’ve ever seen. Definitely the highlight of the weekend.

Not gonna try and rank but had an amazing time. Y’all are crazy. I loved meeting all of you and eating our way through the city. Let’s do it again soon.
I was going to start off this review with saying "I felt like I was at two different festivals this year and last year". I honestly felt I liked more music that I saw this year compared to last year but looking back on the schedules, I think the average amount of time I spent seeing bands I liked vs bands I was at minimum indifferent to was about the same. The difference? 1) A lot fewer dropouts this year and 2) I spent more time with great people. So, thanks for that, guys.
I guess I'm going to start at the beginning: Friday Allison and I got in later than expected; since I moved earlier this year I had to adjust my transit plans and made a few mistakes along the way. The Imminent Prospect of Riot Fest Getting Kicked Out Of Douglass Park didn't really hang large over this festival; there's some anti-RF graffiti around but nobody nearby protesting or anything. (favorite graffiti: someone carved into a park bench cartoon animals saying "who gets rich off of mega fests? not us!" to be honest, I do not personally expect to get rich any time any event happens but your mileage may vary.) It seems like the park district is going to respond to the backlash by shifting approval of 10k+ events to its board so any complaints for or against riot fest are likely out of anybody's hands at this point (chicago park district if you are reading this please say fuck the environmentalists and bring this shit up to montrose beach. thanks). Inside, GA security was a breeze around noon after all the MCR campers got inside but the VIP lines looked long as fuck on Friday. sorry to all of you. Not many new additions this year, but Logan Arcade being around was a cool concept that was constantly packed so I never did anything there. I guess since I'm outlining all the logistical stuff up front, don't really have any opinions about the main stages being together and as usual bar lines are always short and food lines are always super long. Beer prices were up like $2 this year?? Pitchfork continues to be the MVP in this regard. uhhh yeah that's about it.
Okay, so let's talk about music. I'm going to be brief since I spent like ten minutes writing that above paragraph and it's not like I'm doing fucking deep reporting here or anything. I missed the Sincere Engineer corn dog pit , Holy Fawn had a lot of screaming and it was good I guess but they felt like a wildly different live band than on record, LS Dunes were bad, Foxy Shazam was a lot of fun and their lead singer definitely has *sighing heavily* moves like Jagger, Algiers were really good on their own and that one guy's dance moves somehow elevated it??, Sparta was all right, I enjoyed RTFC a lot but sort of left early due to peer pressure (read: garageland not liking that album very much), Descendents were fun, I was at bleachers for 30 minutes and I think I enjoyed it but it also felt kind of "the Killers if Clarence Clemons was a member", Marky Ramone was so much fun, and MCR was pretty enjoyable; loved Gerard Way's Grey Gardens drag but felt like they should've had a more elaborate stage production.
Saturday: got in much earlier. Mannequin Pussy lose a little something in broad daylight imo but I always love every time I see them so no complaints here, Bully was in prime form, I was paying attention to the Get Up Kids for maybe 10 minutes but everyone around me liked it!, 7 Seconds into War on Women was maybe my favorite moment from this day (I was talking about this a lot in various forms to various people on Saturday but I think it's hard to write directly about politics without being total shit about it, 7 Seconds are deeply earnest in their simplicity and somehow I don't hate it, which is remarkable. War on Women are more involved but aim for something similar I think and also do it very well imo), I have basically no thoughts about Bad Religion either way, always nice to see a bit of GWAR at riot fest, SDRE were really good which was nice since they were definitely starting on the slower side, I think in the end I was not a huge fan of that Misfits set but....I can't really complain.
Sunday: Did not make it in for Linda Lindas because brunch was good!!!, Jawbox was good, Zola Jesus was good but really should never be playing in the daytime at festivals lol, Lunachicks were so much fun, Coolio doing 5 songs and ending half an hour early was ridiculous but I almost kind of appreciate the balls behind it, that Alice Glass set was great but I'm not sure if I loved or hated that one member of the band who just mostly held a purse while vaping and twiddling a knob once or twice a song, somehow even with Angie Boylan on drums and Black Belt Eagle Scout guesting throughout the set, Sleater-Kinney was a huge disappointment; I think Corin and Carrie are just kind of losing their special sauce a little bit??, but thank god Karen "Motherfucking" O was there with the goddamn Yeah Yeah Yeahs to show us all how it's done (new songs are so, so great too.), NIN was a good way to close out; hard to find fault with a crowdpleasing setlist like they had. (also it was fucking loud)
Aaaaand that's it! Good weekend! Probably won't be back next year unless the lineup surprises me! I love my friends! I love music! Good night!

No formal review, but dumping some sporadic thoughts from the weekend - great time! Didn't meet any of you but I was wrangling a group of first timers as a first timer myself.
Security going in didn't check my bag or pat me down once in all 3 days. All I was smuggling was granola bars and beef jerky, but slightly concerning it was so lax.
Alice Glass's crowd seemed disappointingly small, not sure if the name recognition didn't click for people or Jimmy Eat World just drew everyone away. Loud as hell, and I'm definitely a fan of the vaping, phone-checking, hair-fixing knob twiddler.
Big fan of the water refill system - the line was constantly moving and even when it stretched back to lost and found I never waited more than 5-6 minutes. Way smoother than everyone clustering around a few spigots like at Bonnaoro.
YYYs were my favorite set of the weekend by far. New songs were great, classics were great. Loved the long drawn out teases for the big hits.
Pleasantly surprised with Alkaline Trio and Bad Religion, two bands I've always found uninteresting on record but really enjoyed both sets.
Wasn't expecting such a chatty and jovial Glenn Danzig, and man is he looking old.
Layout and size of the grounds was great, could quickly and easily get from point A to point B (except trying to leave for the night after MCR, huge bottleneck that took us 30 minutes to get outside).
Needs more shade options though, Sunday especially was hot as blazes and hard to find open shade. Hid next to the soundbooth side barricade for Jawbox.
Billy Goats was the best food vendor.
I'd definitely do Riot again, lineup dependent. The Original Dead Kennedys performing Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables 43rd Anniversary Set please

One more lingering thought - the side-by-side main stages setup was interesting but I'm not sure I'm a fan. It was cool to get a spot on one side and still get to see shows on the other side, and it was kind of like watching a concert happen without actually being there. But I feel like the crowd could have been more manageable at the bigger shows if they moved the stages apart. And it was odd that Roots had the prime spot in the big field and Riot was kind of off to the side.

I did, one of my most anticipated sets of the weekend and it lived up. I honestly expected the crowd to be douchey but it was not at all. Everyone around me was super into it, singing along to every word and didn't mind that I was some strange girl screaming along right there next to them. Also the crowd was much, much bigger than I expected.
Edit: Also I'm fairly certain they went 15 minutes over their end time.
