i kno, she was also set to play Boston calling in 2020 before it got shitcanned. idk i get her frustration but it also comes from a very privileged place considering so many artists only dream of being at her level of success

I mean if its a one off its just cause its in Chicago. She was on Sunday in 2018 with Lauryn Hill and Chaka Khan. Now its The Roots, Earl and Toro Y Moi. So could it just be about who is performing the same day with her too?
Did a quick count and it looks like this lineup is 2/3rds acts with women which is really impressive.

Pitchfork is one of the only festivals in North America to even have a 50/50 gender split, let alone more than that. I agree that it *shouldn’t* be impressive though.

always have been. but yeah its disgusting that it took so long to have fests consciously make their lineups more gender equal. Boston calling sucks for this, its become more male dominated as of late for the nuthin buttrock audience

Yea, I know.. Shame, really since the past few years you really notice the force some female lead bands and/or solo artists bring to the table. Think it's easier to have that 50/50 gender split when you're a smaller and/or alternative festival. I can't see some massive EDC-like festivals doing that, even tho that is changing aswell especially in house and techno. Rock and metal festivals, same thing sorta..

2016 was such an anomaly. one of their best booked and equal lineups in years. 2017 and 2018 were excellent but male dominated, and it took a sharp turn for the worse after 2019. After this year i think im done with blind 3 day passes for it

Ever since the Bjork year in 2013 its been 40% or higher when it came to female artists on their lineups. And still only a handful of festivals try to make an effort to make it a respectable number. Coachella is at about 30% this year which is higher than most. Bonnaroo is around 20% for this year. There still hasnt been a major major one to do all 3 female headliners and Pitchfork did that last year with 2 of them being lgbtq on top of that.
Yeah. Cause they ended up having only singles left for Fri and Sat the week of which were only sold at the gate each day. They didnt even have a box office set up there leading up like they had in previous years when tickets were just floating around. They did that so you could buy em in person and save on the fees.

wasn't super into the lineup on release but after looking it over i want to go to see parquet courts, karate, the roots and meet up with a bunch of my college radio friends
