Had a great run to end Saturday with Mitski, 100 gecs, Polo and Pan, and Caribou. Best Caribou set of of the three I’ve seen. Nice sized crowd on the Island stage, band sounded great. Earlier in the day, enjoyed Tove Lo and Men I Trust. One of the issues brought up earlier remains true, regarding many many many talkers. Large groups standing around talking during sets happens here way too often. For Men I Trust I just kept moving forward luckily; eventually ended up in about the fifth row just to avoid the chattiness. Great chill set.
Sunday was my day to get to things early, because I had priorities lol. Really wanted to see Genesis Owusu so lined up at about 1:30. They started letting us in at 1:45, and I was able to make it to his 2pm set on time. Great stage entrance (carried in by his crew), really great set. Will see him again the next time I have a chance.
Made sure to get to Wet Leg 30 minutes early, because I was worried the tree stage would overfill, ended up getting about fifth row. It seem to fill up well behind me, but did not feel overcrowded I guess. I ended up in a perfect spot, moshpit just bordering on me, but not really impacting me too much lol. Super fun set. Then on to Dua Lipa, even getting there 30 minutes early I was pretty far back. MGK had a good crowd as well, seems like most of the crowd was at those two stages at that time of night. Very good set, she is very polished, and ready for the big stage for sure. Really enjoyed Ashnikko’s set (was looking forward to it and it exceeded expectations), as well as Girl in Red, who I have seen multiple times.
Entrance every day seemed chaotic, a mass of people crowding to the bag check/scanner. Even getting there at gate open it took 25 minutes the first day and 20 the last day, only 10 minutes Saturday. Exit always seems like it’s going to be a disaster, huge crowd lining up to the metro, but it moves, and you never really feel stuck. Never more than 20 minutes from lining up, to being on the metro.
Also caught the Nick Cave exhibit Sunday morning at the museum nearby - really great. Overall lot of fun (4th Osheaga)!

Had a great time at my first ever Osheaga. Really enjoyed the crowds--everyone was very respectful and kind, even when it got insanely crowded towards the end of the night and at the entrances, I never felt like anyone was agitated or being disrespectful.
Some highlights: wasn't expecting to love the dance stage/scene de isle so much. The rocky ground was a bit of a bummer, but the energy was really great, and it felt like it was in a really prime location being a little more sectioned off from the rest of the festival. Daphne was wonderful on Saturday, and seeing the Caribou show that night was really cool too. I loved seeing LP Giobbi as well. Polo & Pan was terrific on Saturday too, they have some great songs and really warm, positive energy.
Some great musicianship all around--Men I Trust were way better at this festival than when I saw them at Coachella 2019. Their guitar player is a monster, some really incredible solo sections. Mitski was great, loved her performance and choreo, and she gave some really strong vocals too. Local Natives were classic as always, one of my favorite bands, so that was a treat. Charli XCX was great, though I am sad I missed Turnstile! Loved Arcade Fire's headlining set, but that was the third time I've seen them this year, so it wasn't as big of a deal for me personally. Wet Leg was great, and I heard that their Lolla show was pretty boring, so I think we were lucky to have a bit more of a vibrant show from them. But that was a really fun crowd, loved seeing them and Sad Night Dynamite on the small stage. Dua Lipa was obviously amazing, I do feel like her set was the most attended one that whole weekend, and rightfully so--the club vibe in the middle of the set with "One Kiss," "Electricity," and "Hallucinate" is such a killer three song stretch and totally changes the energy of the show.
Also, the metro situation was really great. It didn't take me longer than 30 min to get back to my hotel every night, which, to be honest, was a profoundly great part of my experience. The grounds and layout were also pretty decent--reminded me a lot of Outside Lands in SF.
In terms of things that weren't so good, all of the artists I saw were great, but Lucy Dacus was a bit of a snooze...definitely had higher expectations for her. The Kid Laroi and Machine Gun Kelly were acts that I caught waiting for the next artists, and by no means were they bad performers...their music is just kinda bad, lol. I also couldn't get into the Yeah Yeah Yeahs--lots of personality and great energy, but it didn't really leave much of an impression on me, especially compared to Arcade Fire. I would say the biggest disappointment was the overall food situation. I felt like there was a general lack of options, with only a couple areas that had more than just a poutine food truck and a hot dog stand. And of course poutine was everywhere, but...I mean...each time I had it, it was just fine. But around dinner time the lines for any kind of food were frustratingly long. There were tons of people, of course, but I feel like if they had more dedicated areas for food, it may have helped the situation.
Overall this was a great festival to do by myself. I didn't get as much time to see the city but I got to check out the artist world area and had a nice conversation with Nick Farkas, the founder of the festival. If anyone is curious, here is the recap I put together for Consequence: consequence.net/2022/08/osheaga-festival-2022-recap/
Never did my final write up for this so here it goes!
Pros: The festival grounds are fantastic and hard to beat. Such a short subway ride into the City. Montreal is fantastic. All the people in the city and the festival are so nice and respectful. Not one cell phone pick pocketer seen. Excellent Scheduling and art. Food is delicious and decently priced. EDM all over the place. All very good. Hard to leave the Island stage at times.
Cons: Don’t try to enter the grounds an hour after they open. 30-60 min wait in the sizzling sun afterwards. Too much Gold/Platinum BS in the main stage area and the upper bowl of Green/Red stages. Lineup was lacking star power other than Dua. Foo’s and Rocky would’ve helped for sure.
Friday: Jacob banks was okay, John Summit turned on the party meter, The Kid Laroi was pretty decent, Charli XCX was a little meh, YYY’s were old but still slayed. Big Sean was ok. Kygo was insanely packed. Couldn’t get very close so we went to Chris Lake who didn’t disappoint. Passed by Arcade Fire playing Wake Up while the rain started to pour and ran for the exits. Great day.
Saturday: Qrion was decent and so was Sampa the Great. Bleachers was ear piercingly loud and okay. Freddie Gibbs said eff the police before every song, which got old. Mitski was meh. Khraungbin and Gecs slayed. But the show of the year went to POLO & PAN. My goodness what a show. The energy, lighting and dancing hit just right. Especially right after the sunset. Was on the rail for that while waiting for Porter. Who was decent but we eventually left for a little Future and then Caribou. Who is always excellent and ended with “Can Do without you”
Sunday: LP Giobbi was dope. Ended up buying afterparty tickets where she never ended up showing up. There was maybe 10 people in the venue. Big bummer. Should’ve went to the Alan Walker one. Royal Blood was okay, vibe was off. Glass Animals was good but they clearly need another album. Seen them last year and it didn’t hit the same. Apashe was dope. Embarrassed to say that MGK was enjoyable. Especially when they cut off his mic since he went 20 mins over! His face was priceless. Dua is a goddess. She’s big time and was a perfect booking.
