does the price usually plummet closer to the fest?
It certainly has in the past. Somehow my buddy grabbed a VIP ticket for $300 last year 2 days before the fest. It's hard to say.
My only gripe is that Firefly camping spots are much more expensive that other camping fests such as Bonnaroo.
I think I'm gonna hotel this year, there's some changes to camping that have me concerned. Don't feel like being a guinea pig. I think no south GA camping is gonna turn the north into a refugee camp. Please prove me wrong Firefly!

Sounds like you didn't go in 2021. There also was no South Camping last year, at first. They added it closer to the festival. Just an FYI.

Hotels hard to come by. I had one a few years ago about 15 mins away and it was about 90 a day to rides in total

I've already got one booked. I just drive in everyday. I went to the first five firefly and a few single days since. When I don't camp I always stay at the same place. Its like 25 minutes south of Dover. It gets the job done.

If you keep checking there are 2 real close by that might pop up. I took too long to decide last time i went after 1 popped up from a cancellation but they are like 5ish mins away i think.

These 2 hotels are great if you can get a spot. Can either walk to the fest or walk to a rickshaw ride into the fest each day. Stayed at one last year.
I'm guessing Firefly's gonna add about 30-40 names with the single day lineup release, maybe 12-15 substantial, and the rest up and comers and regional acts. Despite half the headliners and some decent bands in the undercard, the rock genre seems to be ill represented compared to years past.. Last year had Turnstile, for Christ's sake. Hopefully the bulk of the additions are of the Shaky Knees variety.

My hope is that we get a few of Wet Leg, Sad Night Dynamite, PinkPantheress, and King Krule

I dunno, I feel like 50% rock headliners, a bona fide rock sub, and a few rock acts in the lines under the subs, with 1-2 legitimately interesting bookings (Machester Orchesta, Mannequin Pussy) is about all you can ask for right now from a regional multi-genre fest until the music tastes shift again.
You can complain the names are Weezer, Avril Lavigne, and All Time Low, but they at least tried for as much rock as Coachella is (actually decently more).

who did they add in 2021 w/ daily splits? would love to see Foxing get added since they often tour with manchester orchestra
They added Passion Pit in 2019, Silversun Pickups in 2016, and Beck in 2014. Those are the only significant ones I remember.
Passion Pit is pretty big, if we get something bigger added i’m hoping for YYYs or RTJ. Either way im pretty satisfied with the lineup as is. Im surprised at just how good the lower half of this lineup is

First of all, Firefly is one of the biggest festivals in the country, so I wouldn't call it a regional fest, but the 2020 lineup also was lacking in rock music, so maybe it's just the trend. Last year was stacked with rock acts, so I'm trying to be optimistic. Also, the bands you listed, and the headliners, are pop punk, a very specific subgenre of rock.. There's very little indie rock on the lineup, which is abnormal

its definitely a regional fest
Good point, hadn't thought about it that way. It's easy to forget how many regional fests book Paul McCartney.

what even defines a regional fest vs a national one? i always thought it was budget and headliner size. Like you have your A tier Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and ACL. Your B tier Outisde Lands, Firefly, Osheaga, Boston Calling and Gov Ball. and the C tier of fests like MoPop, Pitchfork, III Points, PS LA, and Music Midtown

There really is no metric to determine what qualifies as a regional or national fest.. but referring to Firefly as a regional fest seems reductionist to say the least. If Firefly isn't a national festival, then the US only has a handful of national festivals.. I'd say Coachella is an international festival, and Firefly is a national festival, imo.
