Hopefully this goes back to 18+/accompanied by someone 18+ for 2022. I'm looking forward to how they book this, and what safety precautions/rail layout changes will be taken/made (not just for GB, but fests in general) in light of the Astroworld tragedy

I would be very surprised - not saying it won't happen, but I think everyone involved considers the 2021 festival a huge success. I don't think they'll want to mess with what they saw as working.

New festival in Indianapolis the same weekend as Governors Ball:
I don't see there'd be a lot of crossover between this and what GovBall would book, anyway, but it does mean no Vampire Weekend (ah, the 2020 festival that wasn't) and no CHVRCHES, the latter of which I could've still seen being in play before this.
I mean planes are a thing. I don't see why VW or CHVRCHES couldn't play Friday at one fest and Sunday at the other
I suppose they could. The question is whether they're just bouncing around for a couple of individual dates, or playing these festivals as part of a larger touring plan for the year. It's definitely doable to play in NYC on Friday and Indianapolis on Sunday (The Indy fest is weekend-only, so that seems to be the only way both would work), but it doesn't make a lot of sense if you're trying to string a series of shows together, especially given the cost of moving large amounts of equipment by air.
So, no, I suppose it doesn't 100% rule WonderRoad acts out, but I'd say it makes them a lot less likely.

Planes come into play if its a cross country type of deal, not 3 states over. In this scenario its just a matter of how you schedule them. If somebody is playing the Indy fest on friday, they can play Gov Ball Sunday no problem and vice versa. Thats what you will want to look at if they actually released day splits before Gov Ball. Back to back dates arent out of the realm of possibility cause you can still easily drive overnight from either city to the other but its not ideal or warranted if you dont have to do that. but of course a 90 min flight wouldnt hurt in that situation. This isnt like Roo where they had Foo Fighters and Megan potentially flying cross country and playing time zone hopscotch with Bottle Rock in California the same weekend.

WonderRoad is Saturday/Sunday only. So the only viable scenario is someone playing GovBall Friday and WR Sunday.
Again, it’s possible, but I wouldn’t call it likely.
