Don't believe I saw a thread created yet but given that the 2021 fest essentially sold out, have to imagine they'll be back in 2022. Who would you like to see booked? Who do you think will realistically be booked? Citi Field or Randalls? Phone theft precautions taken?
Phone thefts were apparently rampant according to Reddit. Either of those three suggestions seems likely, particularly with Tame Impala reissuing The Slow Rush early next year to re-engage listeners.
Some alt/rock/indie acts that I think could possibly make sense: Misterwives, Cannons, Jungle, Japanese Breakfast, Pale Waves, Oh Wonder, Roosevelt, Saint Motel, SHAED, Two Feet.

It'll be interesting to see what happens if Tame Impala announces another leg of their tour for the spring of 2022. They could easily play the Garden, so are they going to opt for GovBall over that?

If I had a guess, they’ll announce another leg that coincides with their appearances at Innings and Okeechobee. I’m sure cities like Boston, NYC, Philly, etc. will be apart of that.
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol

I guess it's a way of switching things up rather than doing another 2 nights at MSG. They have enough of a normie crowd to do well at Gov Ball.

The Weeknd moving his arena tour to stadiums with a Summer 2022 start. Dates coming and I assume he'll do Citi or MetLife, but this will be something to watch

If RHCP and Coldplay can do Metlife in 2022, The Weeknd sure as hell can.
The Weeknd will need 2 really good openers to make it worthwhile. Coldplay sold out stadium tour their last time out without announcing their openers til later on and they were notable artists but nothing that was going to make you drop everything to get a ticket to go see them. I think best case scenario is if he could convince Lana Del Rey to be main support and get an hour set. That would def sell tickets.

I doubt any show will sell out right away, but with dynamic pricing, I bet they'll still manage to fill them up by showtime.
I wonder if the locals LCD soundsystem will ever play this. Just noticed they have a residency at Brooklyn Steel coming up
Doubtful. They don't really appeal to the demo anymore and they likely would be in a sub spot which I don't imagine they'd take.
This reflects my take. They best they could probably do at a GovBall any more given the way the festival is skewing is the slot Portugal. The Man and Phoebe Bridgers were in this year...and even that might be a stretch given they don't have any clout with the youths who are very clearly the target demo, now.
I don't know that James Murphy's going to trek out to Citi Field for an hour-long afternoon/early evening set when he can sell out 20 nights at a venue that's walking distance from his house.

James Murphy lives by BK Steel?
Sidenote and perhaps the point has been beaten to death but, man, BK Steel is just SO much more preferable than Terminal 5. I've noticed they seem to be getting the more marquee touring acts as well vs T5 so I wonder if bands/acts feel the same way.

With all this SHM Coachella talk, we can count them out for Gov Ball since they're playing MetLife
Was that officially announced? I don't know them too well but MetLife seems...ambitious.
Their IG story featured a bunch of arenas/stadiums, assuming tour locations, and MetLife was one of them. I agree it's a bit ambitious. Obviously this is nothing but speculation, but maybe a joint MetLife show with The Weeknd? The Weeknd's 2022 MSG shows weren't selling too hot from what I remember Ticketmaster showing; almost the entire upper bowl was still showing as available for one of the nights

That'd be a slam dunk ticket-wise but I doubt either one of those acts wants to perform while it's still light out. If SHM doesn't have a ton of other dates close by, I think they should be fine (I mean, wasn't Rammstein even doing MetLife in 2020 before the pandemic cancelled everything?)
I have a feeling Gov Ball is aiming for fall dates again based on how quiet their social media has been. While I know Citi Field is not an ideal festival spot, I assume the overhead is lower vs. Randalls Island and the fall is just simply better weather-wise which Founders may have wised up to.

the SHM bill at metlife will just be a bunch of other big-ish EDM DJs. The likes of Alesso, Madeon, Porter Robinson as one of the bigger openers and then a couple smaller names most likley. Can't see a joint booking with the Weeknd.

No, I don’t think Governors Ball will get the fall dates again because the weather will be getting cooler and yes, the festival will move back to June when it’s warm and hot.

idk it was pretty warm in the fall this year, mid 70s all day

The average High/Low temps on the first weekend of June and the 3rd weekend of September are identical.
The only difference is that September weekend has a 25% average chance of rain and the June weekend has a 38% average chance of rain. Plus, thunderstorms.
Citi Field definitely makes more practical sense, just unfortunately not very scenic. I assume this festival will be extremely pop/hip-hop leaning in 2022.

It'll be interesting to see how it plays out, weather-wise. Obviously, the parking lot is a lot better equipped to deal with rain or storms, but we had days in early and mid-June last year that hit 85-90 degrees, and a full festival day in that kind of heat, on blacktop, with little shade and nowhere to really sit other than some swathes of astroturf or a bench if you're lucky enough to find a free one, would be its own particular challenge. I know I'm old and decrepit, but I have to imagine that'd be a challenge for a lot of folks.
I'm not necessarily saying it's a huge win or loss - each location has its pluses and minuses. It'll just be interesting to see how things play out.
