i haven't brought my Vegoon Arguments into this thing like hardly at all, but come on y'all - pigs are seriously so fucking intelligent (more than dogs and the average human toddler) and kind. i stopped eating pigs when i was a kid, lonnnng before going fully veg - are there no folks in here who aren't veg but don't eat some meats like pork or beef or anything like that?
I'm not a vegetarian but I don't eat pork anymore. Pigs are intelligent creatures and just something about slaughtering them for food rubs me the wrong way. I'm not some kind of PETA member or anything like that, but there is a line for me. Also I'll never eat veal. That's some fk'd up shit.
Plus, bacon is gross anyway. I'll mess with Soyrizo and turkey sausage tho.
I eat them at home. Never had one from a gas station.
Oh same, I always make them at home. I have never paid for one. Sometimes I will just use the egg slicer instead of mixing the egg with the mayo. So I just mayo the bread and add the sliced egg. Also best on bunny bread so it sticks to your teeth.

yup when i was literally like 8 or 9 i vowed off eating all pork, red meat, and ESPECIALLY baby animals like veal - as soon as i connected the dots that those animals were ending up on my plate, i noped hard out of consumption of any of those after that. the poultry and seafood (and most egg and dairy...) industries are real fucked too, don't get me wrong, but it took me learning more about the enviro impacts to realize i wanted to go full vegan. but the emotional connection was plenty pre-age 10 to cut out things like pigs, one of the best animals on earth tbh
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

I’ve eaten vegetarian for a period of time twice, both times for animal reasons as opposed to health reasons, but I went back to meat in less than a year both times. I’ve definitely struggled with the ethics of it, but I think what I get to at the heart of it (or maybe it’s just what I tell myself) is that some animals eat other animals, and I fall into that category. Maybe it’s just making excuses or justifications for not wanting to change enough to actually do it, but that’s where I’m currently at. But I won’t do veal either because I guess that’s where my line is.
I get the argument that pigs are intelligent. They are, and I’m not sure it’s right to eat them, but I don’t necessarily think it’s somehow more wrong than eating a chicken. But as I said, I’m voting bacon this round anyway. I enjoy bacon, but there are other things left on this list that are definitely better and deserve to stay in longer.

there's a great and very brief/succinct video on this precise notion from my fave vegan activist (he's not preachy or aggressive - he just speaks from the heart while also using very real science and facts to back up his statements).
it is just 3.5 min - pls do give it a watch, anyone who is at all open to engaging on the topic / thinking about it constructively.
the gist of it is (and this is from here): "The problem with using this as a justification to eat meat is that it couldn't be further from what really happens to us, the earth and the animals through animal agriculture and our consumption of animal products. Yes, (massive amounts of) animals are born and killed during this process, but from start to finish there is nothing you could honestly point to as being cyclical, nourishing or of any actual benefit to the planet (other than financial)."

Ya see this is why I stopped trying to bring up these arguments years ago, and just am happy with Bunny's "Black Diets Matter" shirt. Seafood forever! Until the mercury kills me!!
Shrimp and Grits got the shaft on this competition.

I don't have an issue with eating an animal just because its an animal, but I do have a problem with large-scale animal agriculture. It really is torturous and inhumane the way they're treated and its extremely resource intensive and detrimental to the Earth, too. I hope to change this in my own life once I'm out of school and more stable by hunting/fishing a portion and cutting a portion out of my diet. But I've gone vegan/veg for spells in the past and I cannot maintain a healthy weight. I drop pounds and I'm already light as it is. I am constantly fatigued and can't maintain the lifestyle I'm used to. I'm sure with the perfect formulation of foods I could get the balance right, but as a broke college student I have no time or money to focus on that right now. I often feel a sense of cognitive dissonance on this topic because my actions don't match my feelings, but I'll get to where I want to be at some point. Bacon is gas though

I was looking for the Inforoo Salon thread to move this to because I don’t want to derail this thread, but I also don’t want you to think I’m being dismissive of this post. I didn’t find it.
I watched the video and checked out the link. I absolutely can’t deny that there are moral and ethical reasons to not eat animals or that there are health based arguments for a whole food plant based diet. I’m aware of many of them and, as I said, have been persuaded by them in the past to cut out meat. I would never ever judge a person for being vegetarian or vegan, and I would certainly not try to talk someone into eating meat. Conversely, I’m happy to listen to any arguments for not eating meat or animal products. But at the end of the day, so far, I nevertheless continue to eat meat myself, and the best explanation for that that I can come up with is that it is in my nature to be omnivorous. I don’t think that’s the same as saying “circle of life.” And I 100% agree that the meat industry is an absolute abomination and not natural in any way. But I do believe the act of eating meat itself is natural, I just think we’ve corrupted it, as we’ve corrupted most natural things. There are conflicting drives here, and to date, my drive to eat meat has won out over the other drives. I guess one could say that makes me a weak or unethical person (and I’m not saying you’ve said that, just acknowledging this side of things), and maybe that’s not wrong, but I’m not sure it’s right enough to change me either. Jim Watson used the term cognitive dissonance and I think that nails it. I understand why I probably shouldn’t eat meat, but I don’t change the behavior.
And this is kind of a minor point that doesn’t really matter, but since he brought it up in the video, if a bear (or whatever) were to eat me, I don’t think we should get mad at it or hunt it or kill it (although I know some people do think that way). I think the bear was doing what is in its nature and should not have any accountability for that because I don’t think a bear has the ability to consider right and wrong or the morality of eating a person.

yes, lets move this elsewhere - not trying to clog things up on here either!

Egg sandwiches and breakfast burritos not only still being around but only getting a handful of votes so far in the entire process is mind-blowing to me bc I don't give a fuck about either.

Same. Both are no better than fine.
based on the posts on the previous page i feel like lots of you have no idea what an "egg sandwich" actually is
nobody is talking about, like, egg salad here or that scrambled-eggs-on-dry-white-toast monstrosity somebody posted
