When Kyle was learning to talk and because I am a sailor, he learned the word fuck. He loved that word so much, we had to have the polite society talk at 2 or 3. Luckily, he got it out of his system before he started school. Think picking up a toy and just repeating fuck, over and over again. LOL That was pretty much when I decided that I wasn't going to put too much significance on curse words so I wouldn't just make him want to say it more. I just told him, you can say that at home in a non-mean way and not at anyone, but you can't say that outside the house because people think that word is not a nice word at all.
There is a chance that you won't even need to have that conversation. Every kid is so different when it comes to that type of thing. My brother doesn't curse or let people curse around his daughter. I personally think that is so weird. I get protecting, but they're just words and it isn't like most people don't use them casually IRL. Idk
My in laws are the NEVER CURSE type, even among adults. And of course when they're visiting that's when my kid loves to throw around the choicest of words because it gets such a reaction from them lolllll. I have to try sooooo hard not to laugh, but inside I am dying.
My parents both will tell me still to this day, "I wish you wouldn't curse so much." I never heard curse words growing up. I learned them on the back of the bus in 5th going to school and I cursed incorrectly. Kids are going to learn them regardless if you curse or not. Might as well not give them that much power because let's be honest, never cursers are the fucking worst. LOL
How do people find babysitters? We've been spoiled by using my parents but every so often we can't, and need a second option lol.
I tried care.com but you have to pay to use their service, ew. I'm sure they also get a cut and the monthly fee is pretty steep.
i have my clearances and need a job. you could fund my move to california? i'll help continue the indoctrination of your child into the church of beyoncé.

Seems reasonable to me! We have an ADU and everything <3

No idea. If we can't tag a local relative in we don't go out. (We rarely go out.)
We're also currently screwed on a dog sitter for our February vacation. Our normal dog sitter was already booked seven monthly out.
Luckily we have our dog set up with a doggy daycare place nearby for trips. Too bad they won't watch kids too lolll. He'd do great with 8 billion dogs!

Our dog would not do well in a kennel situation. She's on prozac just to get through the day at home alone.

Awwww, I wish I could come watch your dog. Sounds like we have a lot in common!
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
I’ll watch your dog. I’m home all day and don’t have any other pets around right now. Only 3 hours away. V convenient.
That's very kind. If she didn't also have a panic attack every time she got in the car I'd take you up on it. She immediately sheds all of her fur.
And I thought Tyger was bad. 🤦♀️
As far as sitters, crazykittensmile do you have other parent friends that you can ask who they use? Or classmate parents you can ask? Teenager relatives or maybe a neighbor kid?
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

It's been so long, that's all I got. 😭
Most of my friends don't have kids or have grown ass kids lol. The one other couple with an elementary aged kid nearby is the couple we're going out with that night.

I was going to suggest a shoutout on FB, but a babysitter group in your area is definitely a smarter route.
The thought of leaving my kids with strangers from the internet is sending me in a panic.
In the 90s you would have had to trust that cute face on the flyer that was on your door or grocery store board (it was me I babysat all the kids in the neighborhood).

I searched around on nextdoor and found a student at my school looking for babysitting gigs so reached out to her, she seems super nice and college kids definitely could use some bucks

I never had a babysitter that was not already in my family's life.

I didn't either, but I definitely did babysitting for people I hardly knew through word of mouth while growing up. I distinctly remember being left to care for a NEWBORN when I was like 12. The 90s were different lol. Looking back as a parent I feel for that mom, she must've really needed the help to leave her like 2 month old with essentially just an older child!

This was me too, but all my parents loved me and I became regulars for those strangers. The late 80s, early 90s were wild.

It's so funny to me now because I was full on making meals, giving baths, putting them in bed etc. How did I do it all so easily? LOL. And for like $2/hour

I made bank as a sitter. All my parents gave me like $40-60 a night. I used to think I was rich after babysitting. I didn't cook meals, usually the parents left food for them or gave us pizza money. But, yeah. I ran them to death, fed them, bathed them, and put them to bed. Kid energy is the real thing.

I was 11 when my brother was born, so that’s around the time I started babysitting, but I don’t remember being left with him that much for a few years. At some point, I started sitting for him every Wednesday night for my parents’ date night. My mom would always give me $50 for that. That went on until he was like 14 and I was 25. By that time, it was more that he needed a ride home from tennis, and I think my mom wanted to make sure we spent time together. That was all through college and law school for me, so I was broke and not turning down $50 to hang out with my little brother for a few hours.

My little sister is 11 years younger than me also. I was the youngest of the four of us until she was born. She was in my room until she was 2 and they cleared out the front room for her bedroom. I did all the daily things for her and I made sure she made it to school and home. Being so responsible at such a young age by taking care of her is how I was able to get a steady clientele for babysitting. I didn't get paid to take care of my sister, that was my job as her older sister. I would have taken money. lol

My girls are now 11 and 7, and other than family, we have still exclusively used their former daycare teachers as babysitters. My older daughter is autistic, and I just don’t trust most people to be able to care for her. Unfortunately, post-COVID, our bench has gone from 3 reliable sitters to 1. Tomorrow night, one of my wife’s high school students is babysitting them for the first time, and I’m terrified.

My neighbor is a grandma and all around awesome person and she watched our kid once, but I don't want to rely on that because she's as old as my parents and seemed pretty wiped out afterwards lol.
