Staring down the barrel of starting potty training this weekend. I'm really not looking forward to it, mostly because the system we're using (from the Oh Crap! book, which seems to be kind of the go-to for parents in our peer group) requires us to spend this entire holiday weekend basically doing nothing but watching our daughter while she's awake and working on this. No errands, no trips to the park or playground...I love my daughter immensely, but the amount of focus and attention span that's going to take...I feel like the time is going to grind exceedingly slow.
And, of course, there'll be the joy of cleaning up pee and poop all weekend.
If anyone has any last-minute LPT on this process, I am all ears.

Staring down the barrel of starting potty training this weekend. I'm really not looking forward to it, mostly because the system we're using (from the Oh Crap! book, which seems to be kind of the go-to for parents in our peer group) requires us to spend this entire holiday weekend basically doing nothing but watching our daughter while she's awake and working on this. Potty training takes time and I do not believe you need to be holed up in your house all weekend to do it. Kyle was almost 3 when he was completely potty trained, he was not about it. He would point at his diaper when asked where does he go potty. Then would point at the toilet when asked where everyone else went. He knew but was "too busy" to go to the bathroom. The school said he couldn't come back until he was trained. I ended up just taking off his diaper and moving him into underwear, as per the doctor. After the first pee accident, he was going in the toilet. It took three days before he went poo...I heard a "NONONONONONO" and scampering feet down the shotgun on hardwood floors. I walked in to see a trail of poo and Kyle RUNNING to the toilet. We had to hose him down it was so bad, BUT he was completely potty trained afterwards.
He was the worst case scenario potty training from what I have heard. I am sure it will be way smoother than that for you, but just know, it doesn't happen in a weekend. It takes time and sitting on the potty for HOURS sometimes. I would not worry about the weekend bullshit in that stupid book. I would switch to pullups and fancy ruffle panties to help persuade the routine. And constantly ask, you need to go potty?

Is there a reason why you want to get her potty trained now? Is it required for her daycare?
People kept telling us that the weekend lockdown approach was the way to go. Also, half the kids in our daughter's class were already potty trained so we decided to try it. She managed to pee a couple of times in the potty that weekend, but it didn't stick.
We decided not to force it and just let her learn on her own schedule. A couple of months later it just "clicked" for her and she started using the potty on her own. If there's no rush, I would just skip this approach and enjoy your holiday weekend. Or don't be discouraged if she's not potty trained by the end of it.

It's a combination of things. First, a bunch of her classmates at day care and kids of her age in the moms group my wife is in are doing it, so it seems like it's time on that front. And then, I read that book and the woman who wrote it goes in a lot on how much harder it gets if you wait much beyond 30 months, which we're coming up on next month. And we're choosing this weekend because our day care does require that we do it for 3 days at home before sending her back, and the holiday weekend is the time when my wife and I can all be available for 3 straight days without taking any time off of work (I have paid time off, but my wife doesn't).
