My kids are 4 and 9, the only ones we're gonna have. Frankly I'm glad I'll never have (my own) little babies running around the house anymore. My kids are a total handful and sometimes really annoying (each for their own reasons) but I'll take it over diapers and high chairs and baby stuff everywhere. It's a good day when all your kids can wipe their own ass.
No shit. As much as I miss kid Kyle, I would never go back. Kyle never didn't hug/kiss or tell me he loved me in public. We have great talks and just hangout bullshitting about life. It's pretty amazing. Plus, he is an awesome person in general. I know that most don't have a relationship like we do, but I wish it for all parents. I meant that is the goal right? Raising our kids to be well adjusted, awesome humans.
I never wanted kids, but Kyle is definitely the best thing I ever did, but FUCK ever having more. All the nopes.
Does anyone have a school system that goes year round? Apparently they’re proposing it tonight at a Board meeting and a majority of them are in favor.
The calendar that they’re proposing has a decent amount of days off but the kids would only get a month (mid-June to mid-July) as a summer break. Plus like 3 weeks at Christmas/New Years.
Curious if anyone else has it and what they think.
My kid is only in preschool so far, and that is year round, but I would love to have this schedule when he's in Kinder +. If nothing else it would be great to be able to take vacations outside of summer. Also I hear from teachers that so much of the first couple months of each grade is review, so retention is a big selling point.

I've got a 3 & an 8 so I feel you. I'll be so happy when the 3 yo stops shouting at the top of his lungs that he's done pooping and is ready to be wiped.

I would have one more. I said this age was my cut-off, but I would probably still consider it. Although it is nice to be young enough to do things now that I missed out on because I had Logan when I was just a kid myself.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Oh yeah, there's a perk being young and having kids. Downside, you don't know anything. Granted I took us to family and then by ourself counseling, but I was 41 and done. Plus, I'm financially way better off to be able to do shit.

We’re living through the same thing. This plays out daily for us. Our youngest is 3 and finishing potty training. Every time she’s done she yells her heart out and punctuates every word: “CAN. YOU. WIPE. MY. BUUUUUUUUUUUTT!!!”

It gets better. The twins are 7 and one wipes on his own with no problem. The other is a secret pooper and does it when no one is watching. He doesn’t flush, either. Inevitably, I go to one of the bathrooms and in a true “GOTCHA” moment I find a present he’s left the next person. He also doesn’t wipe nor ask for help.
Jokes on him though. I make him bathe every day until he does one or the other. He hates taking a bath as it cuts into train time.
I do have one though so I’m batting .500 so far. Not enough for an award but I’m not getting cut either.

Any week 1 pro tips anyone wants to share are greatly appreciated.
Congratulations!
Sleep whenever you get the chance. Accept help when it's offered. Ask for help when it's needed. Understand that it's normal to feel overwhelmed and terrified and sad.
I remember the first week or two being the hardest since it totally changes your life — your sleep, your focus, your priorities. Definitely agree with feeling overwhelmed and terrified. But you get into something of a rhythm and your confidence will grow. Once your sleep normalizes (or you get used to sleeping less), that helps a lot.
My only advice is all the cliches you’ve ever heard about parenting are basically true. It’s tedious and boring, but also exhilarating and awe-inspiring, sometimes all in the breadth of a couple of minutes.
Above all, it’s exhausting and we’re all very tired. It’s also essentially the greatest thing you’ll ever do. Congratulations! It really is the best.

Heading to Florida to celebrate my son's 4th birthday. I can't believe how quickly he grows, this time his grandparents are joining us. They'll be happy to be able to celebrate with him since they missed the last two.
If any of you have younger kids and are looking for non-Disney programming for your kids, I highly recommend Song of the Sea. It's a pretty chill Irish animated film that seemed to be pretty calming to my young kids.

OK, n00b question: Anyone have any tips for getting a baby to sleep better in a bassinet? We really don't want to co-sleep, but it's getting pretty bad in terms of her not lasting more than, say, 30 minutes in there without freakiong out.
I realize we're still in the "CIA torture-level sleep deprivation" phase of the whole thing, so we might just need to ride it out, but if anyone knows any silver bullets on this front, I'm all ears. Thanks, y'all.

If she's fed and her diapers are clean you could let her cry it out, delaying how long you wait to go in a little bit more each time.
There's also white noise machines/music, though there's an argument that it will make it harder for her to fall asleep to silence in the future.
Mainly, it just sucks. Make sure you're both taking reps with her so that the other gets some rest. Try to give each other a bit more understanding because you're both under duress and are likely to be crabby.

Nope. Kyle lived on my tits. It was the worst. He would eat just enough to fall asleep but when you went to move him he would wake up cry and want to eat more. THREE MONTHS! I gave up on breast feeding at that point and the bottle with a little cereal he was out. He also only really slept in the swing, while it was swinging.

I asked @alware about this last night bc it was team co-sleep for my kids. What kind of bassinet are you talking about? She had success with a bedside bassinet (https://www.amazon.com/Bassinet-Bedside-Portable-Mattress-Included/dp/B08BF3N47B is the kind of thing I am envisioning). The baby isn't actually in the bed but is close enough for contact/feeding/etc without you having to get totally out of bed.

Yeah, we had a pack and play in our room for a good long while. It was a lot easier since the kids' bedrooms were on a different floor, especially for the one doing the breast feeding.

Ran through the sex talk with a couple of the teens who have stared dating recently. They were pretty well informed for the most part. I was impressed to hear that one was openly talking to his girlfriend about boundaries before they even kissed. Th other came home with a hickey so I figured he needed a talking to, lol.
Lord please don't make me a grandfather before I turn 50.....

I tell Kyle he's not allowed until after I'm 50, he's 23.

My middle school best friend got pregnant at 13 and was a grandma at 35, a full year before I had my son. WILD.

First-time dad at 46.
Vaccines tomorrow. It’s so weird having the conversation with the doctors about this, because you can tell how much resistance they typically get by how they instantly start in on a sell of why it’s important. My wife and I just try to cut them off as gently as possible to let them know they don’t have to do that.

We were all on board with vaccines for the first kid but I had some doubts that night when she had a really rough night and I started to worry that Jenny McCarthy was right and I had broken my child. She was not and I did not, of course. No further reactions from subsequent vaccines for either child.
