had a fantastic show in new orleans. our seats were great. we were section 114, which is the last riser before you are side stage, and we were on the aisle closest to the stage. ticket said row 8 but really we were 5 rows back, very close to the stage. tickets were expensive ($140) but they were not platinum, and i took some satisfaction knowing that people on the first row floor paid like $700 for their tickets and were only about 20 feet from us.
some may hate this but one of the benefits of being on the aisle is we could sit during the show since nobody was blocking us. first time i've mostly sat at a tool show, it was neat sitting and just letting the sound and visuals wash over us.
you all know the setlist, i thought it flowed really well. honestly my favorite parts were all the new songs! pneuma in particular was great, and it was awesome hearing the crowd roar when they started it. the "intermission" was nice, i like that they put a timer up on the screen so everyone knew exactly how much time they had.
crowd was great, friendly and enthusiastic but respectful of those around them. the staff was super serious about not filming during the show, which i appreciated. however during the last song maynard gave the crowd permission to film, take pictures or whatever, and that was nice too.
the visuals were of course incredible. being so close we didn't have the full effect like we would've had further back, but i loved this perspective, we could see each band member and what they were doing, and could still easily see everything happening visual wise, no view obstructions at all.
band was great, crowd was great, smoothie king center was great. easily my favorite Tool show i've seen.
my rookie mistake was not bringing earplugs. it was super super loud. i forgot arena shows could get that loud.

yeah, and while i have no doubt it will be a beautiful vinyl set, i don't want a 5 record 1 side per set. that's a lot of changing vinyl just to listen to an album.

Totally. And Im sure some of the ones who even buy it wont play it either so the value can stay high later on. There will likely be another reaction if somebody does a proper vinyl rip and discovers its sounds shitty like Lateralus does.
Saw them in DC on Tuesday. Ticketmaster sucks my nuggets (not in a good way), so they released the front four rows of section 113 the day of the show, having charged 3 and 4X for platinum seats further away. Tons of those 113 seats available at start of show. So I made me way across the sections and went and sat in an unsold front row seat, and just got away with it. Holy shiz. First time I watched the band entirely and very little of the screens. Justin gave me a head nod while I was grooving with him, Maynard was menacing and beautiful. Favorite Tool show of my six, for sure.

My wife and I were just talking about that. It’s (IMO) the best song on the new record. It’s so frustrating that they’ve only played it a couple of times.
I do hope they’ll switch up the set some by the time Bonnaroo rolls around.

FUCKING TOOL! Finally saw Pushit, never seen Hooker before either and first time seeing Right In Two as well. Had a really good view of all of the band was able to watch them more than usual. The Acid Helps was the worst band I've ever seen open for Tool. Usually, their openers are usually either really weird or really heavy and The Acid Helps really weren't either.
