Muse is and always will be a headliner (worldwide)
outside the US without a doubt. and i see they are headlining the aftershock festival, but do they still headline large multi genre festivals in the US? honestly asking i don't know, there might be a recent example. aftershock is the only upcoming US festival i see on their tour dates so i'm not sure.
I meant it in a way that if Lolla, Roo, ACL, Coachella,.. wpuld book them, they would be guaranteed a headliner. The impact would be less than previous years, but can't imagine them not being a headliner. In the US or anywhere else.
is Muse still a US festival headliner? feels like they had their shot a few years back to break big in the US and it never really happened.
RHCP and Lizzo totally plausible though. i'm not as hype on Lizzo as I was in 2020 but would still be a fun set.
feel like GVF will be a headliner before it's over with. they are positioned well to pop into that contemporary rock headliner slot if rock music becomes that popular again. purely anecdotal based on the young people i interact with at work, but for the youths who never really connected with pop or hip-hop and grew up listening to 60s/70s rock and are now in their 20s, GVF is a big deal to them. basically a band that they can claim as there own that is playing rock music. it just happens to be rock music that sounds, smells, and looks exactly like Led Zeppelin.
Yeah, I have a sister five years younger than me and whenever I talk to her friends, a lot of them realllly realllllly love GVF. I've made comments about the obvious Led Zeppelin inspiration before and that's honestly what they like about it.
i try to be a GVF hater but my wife is a fan and she made me sit down and listen to a handful of their songs, and i can't deny that i found them enjoyable. don't see myself turning into a superfan any time soon but they are decent songwriters and they do rock out. i just can't shake the whole zeppelin thing.
my hope is that they stay a rock band but start expanding their sound to become more original and stay off cocaine.

also when do y'all think Foo Fighters will be back on the road with a new drummer. i was thinking no time soon but with the tribute shows coming up feels like it could be as soon as 2023.
If GVF plays let’s just all pray it’s a Which Closer or Pre headliner. I find them tacky but there are worse things that could be booked. Also I don’t think KOL would headline. AF seems more likely than them to me and I think in 2023 AF is at best a Which Closer or LN act and I love AF

Something tells me they are done and will focus on different projects, but that's just me.
Red Hot Chili Peppers*Lizzo*Muse Flume*Megan Thee Stallion*Greta Van Fleet

If Muse is playing a fest they are headlining, but I do think they could be close to that point where a major may not book them because of the draw vs cost. But if they are booked, they'd headline
Greta Van Fleet will absolutely be headlining fests pretty soon. I'd peg them as 2nd on their day act right now but they are really close. ACL or Lolla might give them the headliner bump first in the 4-6/5-8 slots

A (realisticish) dream lineup for me though would be maybe something like
The Cure*Kendrick Lamar*Dua Lipa Vampire Weekend*The 1975*The National*My Morning Jacket (LN) Jason Isbell*Tyler Childers*Sturgill Simpson
noting that there'd be some EDM acts peppered in there, I don't really care about a lot of the EDM acts that'd be billed really highly.
I honestly don’t think The Cure can headline major music festivals anymore.
They headlined ACL in 2019. I don't think anything big has changed between now and then. If anything they'll have a boost with a new album supposedly this year
unless you mean #1 headliner and honestly yeah they'd potentially be billed 3rd of those acts

it kind of looks like there's a looming lawsuit between the foos and taylor's family. report came out that people around him said he was exhausted and had told management and dave and other friends that he didn't want to tour as much as they did, especially with how physically demanding his drumming was. the foo fighters response to it was pr blurbs that said things like "taylor never spoke to dave or management." jeff ament and chad smith were quoted for it and sounded genuine then turned around and apologized for being involved with the article within a day. it doesn't look like a good situation and it looks like dave is trying to save face for his "rock and roll is not dead and the foos are bringing it back" persona

they didn’t play the main stage at ACL, Gambino did that night.

Still a headliner tho. But not the main one that day.

Also The Cure wouldn't accept anything else than a headlining set.
They didn’t get top billing of their day at ACL 2019. I realize ACL is a bit different with competing headliners each night, but I don’t really see why they couldn’t sub. I’d guess the average person aged 18-25 couldn’t name a single song from The Cure.

That doesn't really have anything to do with headlining. Remember that people didn't know who McCartney was when Kanye played?
I'm trying to think of headliners that wouldn't headline anymore. There really aren't many (if at all).
I thought Muse in 2018 was pretty great (though I'm maybe a little biased). Sounded huge. I just wish they had waited one more year to book them, because their stage show and production was way cooler on the next tour. The type of production you really don't see often from a rock band, and I think the average person would have walked away more impressed.
But yeah, I don't see Roo booking them again, probably ever, as long as they're still a headliner.

GVF is incredibly tacky but would probably be a fun show, I think they'd be top 9 if they were booked now. RHCP is on tour now and would probably do a summer tour next year, I wouldn't mind it since they have John back. Hopefully they'd book some of the acts they're touring with now like Anderson .Paak, Thundercat and HAIM.

The Cure are absolutely headliners lol. Muse are too. Muse might just be better off doing things like Rockville or maybe Shaky though as opposed to Gov Ball’s and Bonnaroo’s.
I think Florence and Arcade Fire are interesting ones though. I think if Roo is willing to do some dual HL type stuff (Tame/Lizzo in 21 and Phish/Gambino in 19) then both would be make sense as 2 on their day and be pretty good picks too.

It matters because after a disastrous ticket sales year they aren’t going to book a band to headline that isn’t going to move tickets. If they headline Bonaroo they will have one of the most empty headliner sets ever.

this thing about “kids not knowing” The Cure is weird when Roo sold out 2020 with Tool headlining. They just have to put some younger acts around them and a fest w The Cure headlining could sell out.
