someone said they saw him at buku dancing at the Lane 8 set and talked to him and gave him a hug.

I asked a couple of PL Fam about him recently, and I heard kind of the opposite. Hopefully that was bad information, because I'd love to see him return to the circuit. He's got to take charge over some of those habits.

Could be either way though. We'll find out. He was pretty active here with underground shit in the mid-teens when he first moved from Colorado. People are always talking shit which gets twisted more from person to person. I meant to ask some of the Lettuce guys when they were playing Jam in the Van if they were working on any Live or Analog Future stuff with Derek, but I only got a chance to shake hands and didn't want to go that heavy in on anyone without time to actually talk. I'm not sure he'd ever be 100% sober, but the horse needs to go. That shit will fuck motherfuckers up for life.

after pretty lights 2013 i think a lot of people got excited at the fact that artists could possibly go all night then very few acts have actually pulled it off since then. it upped people's expectations for how long late night sets can go

I’d say that set is legendary status. My friends and I still talk about that show today. Some of those remixes he was pulling as the sun was coming up…that NIN/Beasties/James Brown mix was incredible.

That’s maybe my fav set ever at Roo. It was my first festival too , so maybe that factors some into it. But dang that was soooo much fun.
really wish i caught it but we got into the pit for paul and afterward we were like there's no way we're going to watch anything that will top that.
late night acts that night were pretty lights, animal collective, zz top, wolfgang gartner, and porter robinson. so a pretty stacked night with an all time great headliner. what a wonderful night and year. also my first festival

The Saturday is genuinely tempting, I'd love to see Vampire Weekend again, despite his missteps I'd still be down to see Chance, and both Kaytranada and 100 Gecs are on my to see list. Also used to be really into Deadmau5 circa 2007-2010ish and haven't listened to anything since but there's worse EDM headliners they could have booked for my taste
also its so weird to me that Vampire Weekend is only doing these weird one off fests (theyve also been on similar ones in Indianapolis and Cleveland) and not actually touring this year

I've been chasing the feeling after that Pretty Lights set for a while. Macca>The xx>Animal Collective >PL sunrise was peak Bonnaroo for me. It was the hardest I've ever gone at a festival.

Are there still regularly jam acts that go to sunrise in the tents? I'm a bit surprised Pigeons didn't try for it. I recall Biscuits, moe., and STS9 sunrise sets in the years I went.

my understanding is that union contracts have made it so that unless it’s on the schedule it’s not happening
Which is a good thing tbh. Imagine working your job running a festival stage and the band is supposed to be done at 3am do you can go home but just keeps playing and playing
