Is the Superjam announcement ever particularly interesting? Aren’t they just going to list a bunch of people who are already on the lineup?
That’s probably a good guess. I forgot they had to announce the Superjam….. I was excited for hopefully the schedule this week but Superjam makes more sense.
Ask speaking of Rebillet, he put out a video yesterday hanging with Erykah Brady and Reggie Watts. She played in New Orleans on Saturday so maybe flew back to NYC if it was live when they first aired it yesterday. I just saw it was up and haven’t watched it except that it’s about 27 or 28 minutes of them hanging around talking then the next half hour is them improvising. Didn’t FF to the end to see if they went out playing or not, but I’ll watch it tomorrow. That’s his heroes, so it’s probably going to be good.
So maybe we get a Superjam announcement this week and no schedule?
From what I can tell, the latest they announced the schedule was three weeks prior to Bonnathursday — in 2021, which never happened. If that’s the new norm, the latest they’d announce is May 26. Just speculating.
That would not be great.
Before covid, did they ever wait until the middle of May or later to drop the schedule?
Superjam details are coming “soon”. That’s… something, I guess.
I’m guessing (?) it will be later if it’s held on the traditional Saturday night. I kind of wanted to go since they have been fun and this one is a different approach. The potential conflict list of it is Flume, Rebillet, 100 Gecs, was supposed to be Ludacris but ?, Chris Lake, PPPP and Nora en Pure. I would go to the Superjam over Flume or 100 Gecs. I don’t hate either but am indifferent to Chris Lake and Nora so might see pieces parts. Pigeons will probably be in or near Top 10 at the end of the weekend, so I’m not missing them. And I still haven’t seen Rebillet and will prioritize seeing some if not all of his set even if maybe Bonnaroo isn't the potentially hardest set he would play. A quality rap set is a wildcard but who knows if they add anyone
it's not listed as a late night, so it might be earlier in the day. The sylvan esso superjam last year was scheduled for 9:30-11:00 before the lizzo headline set.

i've generally been critical of all superjams since 2014, but IMO Jack Antonoff has the potential to put together a really fun set. He loves big, bright, and earnest music, and has worked with a lot of different artists as a producer (not saying he's bringing any of these artists to the farm, just saying he knows how to work with artists).
it won't be Bucket of Bernie Brains, but it has the potential to be a fun dance party sing-a-long in the style of the Oates Superjam. barring a must-see conflict i'd definitely be posted up for it, at least to see how the first few songs go.

Yeah, I didn't know if they were going to do it early or not. It was usually after the headliner on Saturday - as recently as Griz - but I remember them switching it up. If they keep it early, it seems that the likely conflict could be CHVRCHES which I won't be wanting to miss. I forgot Slowthai was on the lineup. Maybe he'll get the late night Ludacris set?

It will likely have a ton of songs from +/- college - mostly that I'd enjoy hearing more now than at the time. But because of the way Bonnaroo does their Superjams, it's not going to remotely touch the Danny Elfman sets at Coachella. I think that set a higher and newer standard for revisiting older stuff. It's on the maybe will see list.

This feels like ancient history, but here are the May schedule releases historically:
I think the ACL lineup is a lil better than Bonnaroo but other recent ACL lineups have made me wanna attend much more than this one does.
It seems like kind of a demographic shift in their booking toward more pop/now stuff. There's talent on it, just not enough for me to travel. I'd figure out 3 days of schedules/wandering if I lived in Austin or if that was a lineup here. Austin was always sort of a rock-first town, and they never had trouble selling tickets.
Ideally they'll stay the newer course for ACL and resurrect Voodoo with rock and hip hop again at some point. For now, I've got Bourbon and Beyond in the fall. I'm not wild about the lineup, but it's got some pretty okay stuff on it.

I'd still really love to check out Suwanee Hulaween in the fall, we will see when the lineup drops if this will be the year that finally happens for me. I never made it to Voodoo but always considered attending that as well!

speaking of superjams that fest in indy includes two "dreamsets" dedicated to tom petty and the allman brothers. i'm assuming the tom petty one will include a lot of people from the 2018 superjam. that superjam was based on a tribute show put together by patrick from mmj. the lineup isn't exactly catered to my taste but is good enough for something close to me. go hoosiers.

also all them witches have cancelled almost all of their dates including bonnaroo
EDIT: good news everyone! all them witches are IN for bonnaroo. they said they cancelled their summer festival dates so i thought that meant bonnaroo but from the looks of their tour itinerary on their website they only cancelled dates in july and august. didn't mean to mislead anyone
